The Fernwood Inn's Reviews and comments
Went with my fiancee and a friend a few weeks ago. Definitely a nice neighborhood pub- currently nice for outdoor seating, and seems to be OK with the dogs outdoors. The speed of service was good, we didn't have to wait longer than about 8-10 minutes until our order was taken, and it looked like a busy night. The food was brought out in a timely manner as well, nothing was missing, food was hot. I has the fish burger with avocado. Unfortunately the avocado didn't do so much for me but it was good nonetheless. I would definitely come back to try more menu items, as they looked really good as well.
Great service always... And the Fernwood Larger tastes similar to my favorite beer in Ghana so it's a refreshing reminder for me.
decent and slight better than average pub food. a little on the pricey end. love the outdoor street patio. chill ambiance.
Very nice place to grab a pint. Typically decent service, good vibe and the closest thing to a local pub I've found in Victoria. My only thing is the food - it can really vary. Been going off and on for years and on average, it's fair to okay - never great. Ain't cheap either but I'm sure it's hard to make a buck in the food biz these days.
I’ve been here more times than I can count, though more due to the amount of beers I’ve had than my ability to count. A truly stellar establishment whose impressions and memories I’ll take to my grave. 5/5 would recommend.
Amazing place kind friendly staff would recommend
My favourite pub in the city. Great food and excellent atmosphere. 5 stars!
I was excited try the masala dosa last night and it was great except it did not have any salt or spice. Kitchen staff should taste as they cook. I had to ask for a salt package. Otherwise a great special
Typically a good neighbourhood hang out--good beer selection, decent food, and a nice vibe. However, it's pretty pricey, and lately the wonky hours have been a big deterrent. Despite posting 12AM closing times, they did last call around 7pm yesterday (Friday) and 10pm tonight (Saturday). Give them a call before making weekend plans!
Tasty food and great friendly staff. An awesome place to spend an afternoon catching up with friends while enjoying a meal and drinks
Rebecca my server was excellent! Never let my water glass be empty. Was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was good and the restaurant was clean. Best chicken strips in town the breading is light and tasty.
Wonderful so nice to be able to take my puppy on patio and enjoy a meal
Went to quiz night and had a blast. I got the falafel burger made vegan and it was delicious. Will be back to this locally owned fernwood gem
We had done a paint night here before Covid, but had never had dinner here. We went on a Monday which was "Burger and Beer" night. My wife ordered that and was quite happy. This is my new go-to place for fried pickles - they are the best I've ever had! They are super crunchy AND gluten free; they were served with two sauces. I had a salad which was alright but after the pickles, I don't think any meal stood a chance at impressing me. Service was friendly, solid, just barely attentive (which is a good thing - I like to enjoy my food and the company I'm with.) Very happy with everything and this will be our new regular pub.
I love this place. Quite chic + modern inside. Fresh food + great service!
Liked the atmosphere and the service was good but the food sucked. A dry burger and a small handful of fries for 18 dollars is just bad business. I’ll come back and give it another chance but i can’t imagine getting anything but a beer from here again.
Great service and food. Breakfast, yam fries, the cod burger, chicken wings, tuna tataki, and their ceasars are some of my favourite go to. Highly recommended.
The best nachos. Beware: you will need help finishing them
Really enjoyed having some pints and food here. Servers were really friendly and i loved how open the floor is in the indoor seating area. Beer was good n cold and the food was decent.
The food here was TOP. NOTCH. The prices were borderline without knowing what they served and definitely high value for price given what we got. But that's nit important. Fernwood Fred, our host, was attentive and friendly, but what's important is that his humor and delivery were so on point that I tipped big.
Keep it up, Fernwood Inn, y'all are nailing it.
This is a funky old neighbourhood pub with all the stylings and settings for a good experience in "pub dining". The decor is stylish and a neat looking sit down bar with part of the bar being on the window side. I ordered the burger and it did not meet the steep $17 price that was asked for. The meat was borderline tasteless and mushy, but the the fries were fresh crispy and delicious. I disappointed the waitress by ordering a water with my meal and never saw her again. I had to trip another waitress to get utensils to eat with. I almost felt that I was doing her a favor by eating here. Only time I saw her again was when it was time to collect the bill, followed by the obligatory smile to "ensure" a tip. To top it all off, the place was almost empty. Don't think I'll be back.
This is instantly my favorite place since moving to Victoria from Alberta. It has a super friendly atmosphere and staff that welcomes the Victoria environment with indoor and outdoor seating. Super cozy and has its own style.
We've been here quite a few times as its a must go when i have friends and family from out of town visiting.
Every single time, we're more than pleased with our food, the variety gives us something new to try everytime, (that is if we can pull ourselves away from being addicted to the items we've already tried). There's also a feature menu that changes very often so that even if you tried all the normal menu items, there's always something new.
Last couple times we tried some cocktails and martinis and oh my gosh they're so good too!
If you see something on the menu that somewhere else already sells like a tiramisu, you can bet THIS ONE is better.
Unique and eclectic old German house, large patio, many beers. Excellent house soup and falafel burger. Pretty good food for a pub! Patio allows dogs! Would recommend.
This is a pretty happening place, even at 7pm on a Tuesday evening.
There's only one reason I'm giving this place four stars instead of five: One bourbon at a pub? I mean, it *is* Bulleit...but, just one bourbon? You've gotta fix this guys. :)
More to the point, the food is excellent, the selection of (non-bourbon) whiskeys is more than appropriate, and the cocktails are quite excellent for a neighbourhood pub.
The beautiful exterior of the place projects a classic British establishment while the interior (albeit a bit too modern to match) is fairly stylish and, above all, both welcoming and cozy.
For anything from a family dinner to a rowdy night out with the boys or girls, I heartily recommend this place to everyone.
The wings are dope, big fan of the Frank's Red hot. Blue cheese is good quality, salads were great, rest of the menu looks really good too. Seems like they use great ingredients here, which makes for some tasty tastes. Here's a picture of my dog for proof
Delicious food 😋 Great Staff 😀 Had Xmas Dinner for 2 years now.
Nice burger and amazing Fernwood craft beer for decent price 🍻
It was a great meal. Plenty of good and good service. Definitely go back again
Awesome local pub vibe. Lots of good beers on tap. Nice servers. Food was average.
Hayley & Joan took great care of us! Solid food & plenty of local drinks to choose from
Very fast food service and great drinks
Good service and food. They allow pets in the patio that is awesome, hopefully they keep doing that .
Good food, loved their burger. Inside and outside seating
The dog friendly patio really helped out when finding a place to eat during the heat. Good and service were nice as well!
Had a great lunch at the Fernwood Inn. We had Salad Nicoise and the Soup and Salad which was Ginger Carrot and a Ceasar Salad. Friendly staff and good service as well.
Great place to go for a pint and catch up with friends. Food is also pretty good.
The ambiance and service was awesome! Unfortunately the food and drinks were just okay. I had to add a lot of salt to my pasta for it to taste like anything and felt I could make a better chicken burger at home. My drink was so over powered with lemon juice that it took over the flavor instead of being a balanced, delicious drink. The Ceasar salad and my partners beer were delicious. I got the impression that maybe people get excited to come here for the good beer and pub feel not necessarily the food. Sorry for the okay review, I was expecting a lot more especially because the food descriptions in the menu looked so delicious.
Haven't frequented this place in a long time but it's worth going to
We walked to the neighborhood pub, which we've been to before, just for a pint and burger. But this time is was not good. We had the Fernwood burger with mushrooms (for an extra charge), the bun was hard and the mushrooms from a can. The pint was good, but not worth the $55 for dinner for two.
Service was good. Great atmosphere.
Great locals pub Fun atmosphere and tasty food.
Great Patio in the Summer! Pet friendly.
Nice atmosphere. Small menu but decent place.
Good food and atmosphere.
Great food and service, love the vibe
The Fernwood is,overall, the best pub in Victoria. Excellent food, and the staff are invariably attentive without being fake. I don't know who manages the place, but they do a great job.
Located in the heart of Fernwood, the Fernwood Inn has been established for a lot of years. Have not ate here yet but have sampled a number of beers and witnessed live music in the party room an have enjoyed it every time.
Pretty decent for pub food but they forgot the beets on our beet salad. Seriously?! The cheese plate was fine. Nice they had a gluten free bread option but cheeses were just standard cheese plate types and the compote was ok. Not the worst cheese plate we’ve had but nothing spectacular. Hubby had the Galactic Space Dragon IPA x3 so must have been pretty good!! Service was ok. Bill came out over $60 so not cheap but typical for Victoria.
Beautiful building with lots of windows and an outdoor patio. Waitresses are fast and energetic.
Beer menu didn't list prices for some reason. The appetizer plates were unnecessarily enormous.
Cosy yet modern.
Had a great breakfast at noon. Good Covid protocols. Personable staff. Great place to eat and watch the world go by out the window.
Awesome outdoor patio, picnic tables etc. Grwet food and tap list.
Great local pub fare.
Great restaurant and atmosphere and the lot lovely staff! Love coming here for a couple beers on the patio (which has a heated section so perfect for during the winter). It would be awesome if they had more fun vegetarian options.
Love their light beer, and my favourite "cool as cucumber" ,a must try for summers
The staff are friendly and the location is a perfect spot for a local pub. Always impressed with the atmosphere and great selection of beer. I'm lucky to live in Fernwood so I can call it my neighborhood pub!
The food remains awesome. The service is still good. As all of the nearby parking has been mangled by the City of Victoria, it's a saving grace that the Fernwood Inn has it's own parking lot.
Classic Rueben not worth the money! I think there was only one slice of pastrami and a bunch of cheese in it.
This place exudes comfort. Food is always fresh, the staff it always pleasant and in my opinion they have the best patio in the city
Great salad. Friendly service
Classic Victoria/Fernwood spot. Good specials on Tuesdays
Consistently decent food. I shared a salad with my gf and they split it into two bowls for us without even asking! Such a nice touch. Great yam fries. Hint: add Ponzu sauce to the Niçoise salad.
Great food, specially yam fries.
I’m for it, and so is my dogg
The Fernwood Inn is a great neighbourhood pub. Ive always found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The food is good and they have a decent selection of craft beers, with some rotating taps, so there is always something new and interesting to try. The also have a nice patio at the back, which is a great spot to enjoy some food and drinks on a sunny day. The only small suggestion I would have is to put some dividers between the urinals in the men's washroom. Overall, this is a great spot and I will happily spend my money here instead of heading downtown.
It was fantastic! Great ambiance and food. Friendly service.
You know how when you eat something so good you think about it for days afterwards? I
The opposite of that happened to me when I ordered the burger. Sad, dry meat between two even sadder buns topped with an overly thick slice of tomato had me angry that I spent 15 dollars on it while it didnt even come with a slice of cheese. Stay away from the burger is the only limited, yet pertinent advice i can give.
I got takeout for lunch today and it was the best decision of my entire life. so good!
Be sure to plan your weekend outing as we had to wait 15 minutes. Not too long but it was cold outside. My soup came lukewarm and the accompanying caesar salad one of the worst I have ever had. Romaine lettuce was discolored and had few leaves and lots of ribs. Don't sit at the half round table by the door going to the patio. Every time it is opened the cold rushes in on your legs. It was uncomfortable and annoying as the door was continually opened. Will come back as staff are friendly and pub food generally good.
Loved it great food and service. Patio was well heated! Perfect spot
Had lunch, it was fine.
Order the pickles. Trust me.
Good food, ordered takeout recently. Delicious!
Best neighbourhood pub in Victoria.Food is top notch that rotates specials often.Always my go-to pub that is dependably delicious!
Great food! Great atmosphere!
Oh gosh, I had the hummus and the wings, I don't know what the cook does to those wings...it was just superqualifragillistically delicious.
Food and service is amazing. We love the Fernwood!
Excellent service, excellent food! We chose three flavors of wings and they were all very tasty and perfectly crispy. I wish I didn't know this...I live just down the street. It's a wonderful neighbourhood pub.
Best Old Fashion Between here and Campbell River...The service is great and the prawn dish is Magnificent. If you have a problem with anything, just let them know and they will listen to your concerns and fix it. Will always come back.
This place has really wonderful atmosphere along with some live music on certain Sundays. The food is fairly small in portion size but good quality. Also there is wonderful service too. I'd highly recommend going especially on a Sunday.
Great service, knowledgeable staff, good food
Had a lovely meal with family tonight. The only exception was the Fernwood Inn Hamburger. It was awful - an overcooked, burned, pattie on a dry bun. It was terrible. Everyone else had wonderful meals that they enjoyed.
The Fernwood Inn...where to begin. As big as an establishment in Victoria as you can get. A huge part of the community for years and a landmark of the Fernwood area, the Fernwood Inn brings people together while offering a quality menu and lots of events. Friendly staff, delicious food, and drinks that go down smooth. I'm aways down to go to the Fernwood Inn!
One of the best brunches in Victoria! Benny on a biscuit > Benny on a muffin.
Friendly service and great food. Portion sizes are fantastic. Lots of space on the patio.
Food was amazing! Falaf burger that wasn't dry and with an amazing spread on it too! Service was exceptional. Many events like paint nights are held here and you could even book it for your own! Highly recommend it's a Fernwood staple and I see why.
The service is good but their menu is limited. Their food is ok, although their nachos are really good. It's a good place to meet with friends for a casual meal and local brew.
Solid, even with a huge group
Service was great food was good
The food is okay at best. You'll read the description in the menu and while it sounds delicious, something is just missing in the execution. Their chicken strips are the best thing on the menu, everything else is just kinda meh. But their drink prices are reasonable and it's in a great spot if you live in Fernwood and don't feel like going downtown.
The pub quiz night is also a lot of fun.
Outdoor patio and sun! The food was delicious and the beer was perfect for the lovely patio day. My salad was amazing, with macadamia nuts, blueberries and brie. My cousin had the best chicken fingers I've ever tasted. They were lightly breaded and not oily at all. Yum!
Had a beer...we are from Alberta, so it was nice to be in a pub
Really great building! Very limited options in the area, and sometimes the customer service reflects that as competition usually encourages that extra effort. It is very steadily busy at most times.
Consistently great staff, lots of live music nights, and a great atmosphere. Good selection of local beer including rotating taps. They've recently updated their menu and it is definitely elevated pub food. The chicken strips are the BEST chicken in town (you'll want to eat the sauce with a spoon if you have any left over).
