Thomas Haas's Reviews and comments
Best hot chocolate ever!! They have four kinds. Dark (regular), extra dark, Aztec (dark chocolate with spice), and kids (milk chocolate). It's funny that if you want milk chocolate, you have to ask for a kid's drink. Shaming us milk chocolate enjoyers? 🤔 Just kidding. A great place for a warm fall/winter treat :)
So here we were on a Saturday morning waiting in a short line with such a warm atmosphere both inside and outside this very quality cafe so well known for its artisan chocolates, pastries and desserts..today our double baked almond croissant was our favourite and the coffee was totally special…the staff were very welcoming and the Covid-19 focus made us feel very safe and relaxed…warmth and smiles were present as an essential part of this experience…
Nice selection of cakes. Their attention to detail, and quality put into their cakes makes them one of my top choices when I'm looking for a cake to celebrate.
Their individual single serve cakes are a nice way to sample what they have. I enjoy picking up a few items to take home to have.
They have pastries, chocolates, and treats as well. There's something for everyone here. Nice layout, decor, and friendly staff makes this place a favourite. Convenient location with underground parking too.
Thomas Haas has a variety of things to sell. We just had to try their cakes. We went a little late (4pm) so limited selections. We still made some delicious choices tho! Highly recommend for those chocolate lovers out there or those who are into pastries and coffee. FT Strawberry Mousse + Compote w/white chocolate shell. Paired with a London Fog. Milk Chocolate w/Passion Fruit Mousse, paired with a Cappuccino. Also bought some Madeleines that had lemon and orange aftertaste. It was crazy refreshing.
Very delicious croissants. Strong coffee
The pastries are good as always. Love their chocolates too. It’s a weekday morning around 10am and the place was packed. Did not seem to have much COVID distancing in store though.
Visited Thomas Haas on a Friday afternoon (around 1). No lineup when we got there but there was a lineup after we had gotten our food. We had the iced passionfruit tea, ham and cheese croissant, pain au chocolate, croissant, hazelnut Danish and creme brulee. Overall the ham and cheese croissant and the regular croissant were my favourite. The ham and cheese has a very distinct cheese flavour somewhat smoky. The croissant is nice and crispy. Lots of layers - good lamination. Usually I would get their double baked almond but they had just sold their last one which was disappointing. My least favourite was the hazelnut Danish. I couldn't taste any of the hazelnut and the raisins made the danish extra sweet. The creme brulee we had was very creamy and not overly sweet. It was also very cute and came in a reusable jar. Overall would recommend Thomas Haas for their croissants. The prices are decent and lots of variety available
The most fabulous pastries in the world. The chocolate sparkle cookies aren't bad either! 😋
Ohh wawww very chic delicious strong taste of chocolate cake. It’s a try to make.
The best double almond croissant you would have in your life.
This is acknowledged as Vancouver's best bakery more appropriately pâtisserie. They make the best croissants, flaky crunchy on the outside in the French tradition, but not swimming in butter. The ham and cheese croissant with their apricot fruit infused hot white chocolate was just exquisite. Unfortunately seating is limited to 2 small tables inside and 4 small tables outside.
Amazing croissants! Extremely friendly staff! Great atmosphere inside, nice seating outside!
My husband bought me the classic black cake and I really love it. It not only looks delicate outside, but tasted good and flavor. The cake has 4 different textures, that's why I enjoy each bits.
We also bought 6pcs Macarons; it's definately the bonus. Each of them looks delightful and tastes good as well.
I'll come back to try other pastries and dessert for sure! Totally recommended!!
Classic. Among the best pastries and chocolates on offer in this city. Coffee decent too and hot chocolate excellent. Try their sandwiches too. This spot is right across the street from me, but I have not tired of it over the years.
Everything in the store looked so attractive and pretty, and all the sweets look delicious!! I had a mont blanc and a chocolate cake, they were both so good. Especially I would really recommend their chocolates.
Their signature Blak Classic is exquisite. It doesn’t make you bored but does make you enjoy every single bite although it’s all Chocolate. Not too heavy not too light. Like they say their decadent desserts are lovingly crafted!
I have to admit the selection of macaroons, chocolates, pastries and cakes is really fantastic! I am obsessed with almond croissants and what makes the croissants here so unique is that they are dense, heavy and amazing flavour of almond paste! It felt like a mini meal and would pair soo well with a tea! Hot chocolate was a bit much with all the other desserts. Happy to see this cafe participating in the hot chocolate festival: “2021, here we come” was 10/10 (Fresh and bright white hot chocolate with passion fruit and passion fruit pâte de fruit)
Best almond croissant ever.
Best. Croissants. Ever. No questions asked. So worth the money.
Lots of pastry and sweet stuff too. My favourite is the quark cheese danish, hard to find anywhere else in Vancouver
Great food 🥐, great service 💁🏼♀️. One of the staff is not wearing a mask 😷 if that’s a problem for you then this might not be the right place for you. 🤷🏻♂️
Loved their almond crossiant, moose was ok. However, the reason for 3 stars is they have extremely rude server on the counter who does not have any manners to treat the customer. Spent nearly $25 their but food experienced was surpassed by rude customer service. Would i go again No, because I live in downtown and I would rather go to Theiri or small victory for similar food but better service and well mannered servers.
I visit Thomas Hass on Broadway once a week. First time was in 2010, and I'm amazed to find the quality is as good today as it was 10 years ago. There are a few poor reviews below and I don't understand. My guess is that those reviews reflect the high maintenance, entitled nature of those particular customers more than it does this bakery or its staff. The people who work here are courteous, kind, and lovely to talk to. Sure, there are probably times when they're a bit shorter, but that's because this is a busy place and they're doing their best to manage around the corner lineups. Artisan pastry + consistent quality = Thomas Hass.
I really admire this man's passion for his craft.
Can't go wrong to get your dessert and coffee
I ordered 3 cakes for a special occasion. The cakes were ready on schedule and the staff showed me each one before boxing it up. Physical distancing worked well in the store.
These days we all need something to draw our attention away from pandemic-related issues. If you have a sweet tooth, then Thomas Hass has your back. Step into his West Broadway location, and the first thing you will see is his fabulous chocolate creations (pralines & truffles) in an open display. Whether indulging yourself or as a gift for someone special, this is a special treat. Next, and to the left of the chocolates, the baked goods display, a selection of sweet and savoury that includes plain and almond croissants, danish, galletes, scones, etc. Your eyes will wander away from these to the beautifully presented cakes, in shapes and colours that will prepare your taste buds for a wonderful journey. Hot and cold beverages available to complement your order. While you wait, check out their giftable offerings distributed along the lateral walls. Everything Thomas Hass presents is designed to leave a lasting impression, the visit to his coffee shop quite an experience! Great service and every protocol in place to make you feel welcome and safe, with a few tables available if you decide you want to stay a bit longer...
It's tasty and delish. The front staff are lovely.
Best double almond croissant in town, has few seating options outside of the store, need to line up to get in, only allow 7 customers in the same time. Suggest Pre-order before go, empty shelf in our last visit.
Great desserts and lots of varieties. A Very busy spot on a weekend.
Great place to go for good quality treats! We were there on Valentine’s Day, so of course it was busy and there was a line up, but that didn’t diminish the visit at all! The staff was all friendly and very efficient, getting through the line quickly. The desserts were amazing, there were some great flavour pairings, like the pistachio cherry one we had and the flavours were not overbearing and complimented each other very nicely. Will definitely be going back!
For sure you will be able to find something you love here! We most often go for their croissants. We also tried their matcha yuzu cake for Christmas. It was light and not sweet at all! If you are ever in the neighbourhood, make sure you swing by for a treat!
Excellent cake selection. Good service
Went to get the milk chocolate passion fruit cake for a coworkers birthday
Very nice dessert restaurant. I was very impressed by the quality and detail of the desserts. The staff were very friendly and hard working. The place was very full of people when I was there as it was close to closing time. I only had desserts this time but the sandwiches looked very tasty. I will try them next time. Seemed like a nice date spot. There is seating outside which seems great for the summer. I will be back for sure.
Delicious croissants and tasty lattes. Will definitely come again one day.
Best hot chocolate in Vancouver & the macarons are superb. Really friendly staff & very clean. My go to place for hot chocolate & treats when I'm in Vancouver
The Almond croissant and Cafe Mocha were good. Sad to say, the branch in Broadway is too dark. And by 1pm, there were less selections on the display stands.Hopefully, you can branch out in Robson st. downtown, where a lot of people will be excited to try your creations.
Excellent German patisserie!
I love their cakes and pastries! I first went to their North Van location years back, until recently I went here to buy some cakes down south for the family. Their pain au chocolat, Passion fruit chocolate cake, and many others are to die for. Always try to go early in the morning to make sure they have everything available to choose from. Also weekdays are less busy in the morning vs weekends. But that's just my experience from a few visits, so it may differ.
I have been here many times. It never disappoints me. I always love their double baked almond croissants, hot chocolate, different types of cakes and chocolates. I would be drooling even though I talk about them.
Currently, they are selling Easter chocolate eggs as Easter is coming soon. I got hot chocolate and double baked chocolate almond croissant this time. They were delicious. I personally only come here for hot chocolate if I have to drink something. Their almond croissants are warm, crispy, and crunchy with sliced of almond on top. Yummy!!
It is always good to come back here once in a while to eat their cakes and pastries and have a cup of hot chocolate. Of course buy some chocolates to take home.
Cool little Cafe in Kitsolano with a great selection of sweets, baked goods and sandwiches. While it does have cafe items, like hot drinks and sandwiches, it's definitely a chocolate shop first. There's tons of amazing chocolate creations there!
The staff were nice and completed orders effectively. Only negative thing I'd have to say is that prices were a little high.
Pastries and desserts were fantastic. Would have been nice to get assistance from staff to carry items to a table outside.
Beautiful patisserie and coffee shop with great pastry, cake options and delicious coffee. I specially liked the almond chocolate croissant and the almond pistachio croissant. For those seeking for a different kind of croissant go for the double baked croissant, you will have a nice surprise :) They also have a very vast mini cake and dessert menu I cannot wait to taste. Definitely a repeat.
One if my favorite dessert places. Always fresh, yummy chocolates and great coffee
My go to spot for a delicious pastry or chocolate treat on a bike ride! Definitely recommended!!
Been here many times . They have the best double baked almond croissant. But often sold out after 2-3pm. The best pastries and the cake are perfect. Not overwhelming and super sweet . Great for a afternoon snack. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 5 thumbs up .:)
Best desserts I have had in a long time, I had the matcha yuzu cake and the chocolate mandarin cake. We brought home some devilishly rich chocolates and sweet macaroons. You won't regret coming here. I expected to spend $50 between 3 of us and walked out with $150 spent you will want to buy everything!
The best patisserie in town! Nice staffs, delicious sweets and very yummy croissants. Love this place a lot
Service & food were good, but too busy/crowded/loud for my taste. It's a great place, but I was hoping for a more quiet/relaxed experience. Ty Thomas Haas for sharing your gift with us 😃
A great dessert cafe in Kitsilano. All the cakes and chocolates are very well made and tasty. Any cake or dessert paired with a matcha latte is the perfect combination. It gets very busy, so it is good idea to find table first and then order. This place is designed more of a take out place. They will pack everything to take home. This is good idea as they are only open in day time and most people like to eat dessert after dinner. All the chocolates are very good and you can make your own box collection. There is nice selection of chocolate bars. Also there is some sandwiches and soups for lunch. There is some free and paid parking in the area.
We came on Valentine's day for the hot chocolate festival. It was crazy busy but we still managed to find a seat. I got a pear tart and it was delicious!
Great and quiet place to enjoy a rainy afternoon. Large selection of tasty pastry and lots of coffee choices for you to choose from.
Most famous for their almond croissants, be sure to get it fast as they have limited quantity

Thomas is not only the best in Vancouver, by far, but he is one of the best on North America...period!
Everyone moaning about his busy shops and the limits he has to impose in order to make many people happy need to give their head a shake and get REALLY grateful that they get to have him in Vancouver.
Every time I come from Calgary it is mandatory that I bring everything I can home to my adult children who grew up enjoying this incredible Man’s delicious sweet goods!
Beautiful pastries, chocolates and cakes beautifully packaged. Enough said!
The double baked almond croissants are amazing! I always stop by when I’m in Vancouver. They bake it all day but may run out a couple hours before closing. You should call to have them set some aside for you.
Good croissants and lattes. The space is small and line ups are to be expected on the weekends. We were glad to have found a small table which was cleaned at our request. Soup and sandwiches also available.
Delish and divine, the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is magical - a must for lover of good pastry and I recommend the croissants by far
Great service.
Can get quite busy so go earlier.
Best double baked almond croissant in town.
Tomato and bocconcini sandwich is yummy.
Love their desserts such as champagne truffle cake.
A little pricy but well worth it. Hard to find seating sometimes since it's a small cafe. Decently priced pastries and good coffee.
Went during the time of 'rona in 2020.
Foot traffic was directed well and staff were efficient and friendly.
Grabbed a dark hot chocolate (which was the perfect amount of sweetness), a double baked almond croissant and a mushroom and tomato pastry. My partner ordered a London fog and the sour cherry turnover.
Everything was phenomenal, and definitely worth the (now inevitable) wait in line. Would highly recommend!
Small little cafe. Fairly clean. They have some very creative chocolate arts. I came here for their hot chocolate during the 2018 hot chocolate festival. It was definitely not to my taste, though one of my friends quite liked it. It is a bit out of the way for me, and from the one drink I got, I dont think I will come back anytime soon.
Get referral from friend for this store. Kind of disappointing on wrapping boxes when I bought 8 boxes of chocolate which is 302 dollars. They don't ask what colour of string on boxes and just did in random colour. I told them I want all in red string. They refuse to redo. Which is disappointing.
This cute lil place I frequently go to get my dessert craving after long hard work. They do a good job following the covid protocols and limiting the customers inside the store. Selections of goodies can be hit and miss depending on what time you arrive to the store. One time when I ordered a cake to go, I think the server did not put enough tape on the box so by the time I arrive home my cake was all smushed and fallen to the side of the box. Maybe next time, please train your server to put more tape on the bottom of the box to secure the goodies.
Must have is the double baked chocolate almond croissants
Great staff that's been friendly and helpful every time I've been there. Picked up a couple things for an early Valentine's Day gift today.
A Vancouver gem! Consider this: my dentist's office is nearby. Each time I go to dentist and get uncomfortably numb, I still come here after my appointment and enjoy a double baked almond croissant. It's the best! Also, we have a tradition with my friends and we always get our birthday cakes from here! I have tried the passion fruit, the dark chocolate, the chocolate hazelnut. They have all been awesome! You just cannot go wrong with Thomas Haas. Thank you for being in Vancouver! Now, let me find out when am I visiting my dentist next ;)
March 24, 2020
I’m grateful that the shop stays open. The delicious pastries, cakes and chocolates can certainly lift our spirits during this difficult time. Thank you!!

Can’t go wrong with whatever you decide to have here. Definitely the best pastries and vienoiserie in town. Most popular is double baked almond croissant but the buttery crisp Kouign Amann is also very good.
Also they serve excellent chocolat chaud. Spicy Aztec is a must try drink. Macha latte is strong and tasty too.
Needs appropriate cake bag like before(big bottom size)...especially for rainy days....!
Thanks.
I’ve been ordering the same crispy chocolate raspberry cake from them every year for the past 4 years!
Best place for croissants! I recommend classic double baked almond or one of their seasonal specials.
Best mocha💖ham & cheese croissants in Vancouver 😍😍😍😍 & brioche
Who needs France when you can enjoy high quality pastries here?
And for those watching their figures, just feast with your eyes - everything is mesmerizingly beautiful.
For those who are not, it is insanely worth it. And I'm looking at you, double-baked caramel walnut croissant with frangipane inside!
One of the absolute best places in town for pastries, especially the double baked almond croissants!
The legend. When Thomas Haas moved back to Vancouver and opened up his first patisserie, it was the beginning of a wave of world class bakeries and coffee shops. Great service, amazing food, pastries, chocolates etc. It’s hard to go wrong there.
Fabulous cafe, great coffee and desserts
Everything they offer is scrumptious and then some. If I lived closer, I would be there more often, please open a location on Vancouver island, you would do so well.
Beautiful pastry and chocolate! It’s so delicate I have to drive 1 hour to try it!
Great place to get cakes and pastries. Family and friends enjoyed them. Makes the trip there worth it 👌
Nice place for Aztec hot chocolate and desserts 😆
Delicious and decadent. Sumptuous pain au chocolat. Wow!
Absolutely love the chocolate here. This year's hot chocolate festival special (2021), "see ya' later 2020" is truly amazing. I describe it as drinking a chocolate bar, rich but not too sweet.
My favourite way to start the morning. Chocolate and coffee. They have an adorable patio to enjoy your treats. Definitely try the passionfruit chocolate cake and their sea salt caramel chocolate. They did make a mistake with my chocolate order but quickly corrected it when I pointed it out.
Every year I always ask for a cake here for my birthday, it’s my favourite cake place!
I love the milk chocolate passion fruit cake (this is the one I get every year if you like chocolate with a nice tart taste)
The cake is a light milk chocolate mousse, refreshing passion fruit cream, crispy hazelnut wafer & soft almond cake.
I recently got my friend a matcha Yuzu cake, but the yuzu was very strong and sour, a nice thin layer would be nice because I noticed everybody only took a few bites of the yuzu and took the layer out afterwards. The matcha was light, wished it had more of the matcha taste
Amazing espresso and pastries. Great place for all sorts of sweets - especially their macaroons and their cakes. Great sandwiches for lunch as well. Try the spicy Aztec
Hot Chocolate for a taste explosion.
Super delicious!
For a cake for a friends birthday and a few pastries for myself. Everything was incredibly delicious. 100% would go again, but usually there’s a line up.
Superb stuff. Priced accordingly and line up.
Very small, but nice. Drawback as they have very limited selection of pastries
It was delicious 😋
When I went to this cafe, a lot of cakes were sold out so I had a few choice to eat.
Had 2 cakes and 4 macaroons, it was worth the kidney they costed 😂 almond croissant is a must try, I had to bring a couple home
I am a chocoholic and Thomas Haas is one of my favourite chocolate cafe in town! When I stop by their shop in Kits I always grab a iced or hot dark hot chocolate, their croissants, and their cakes! We even got our wedding cake there two years ago! The shop is always busy with lineups but it moves at a good speed and the wait is between 10-15 mins.
Delicious coffee and cakes
