Fable Kitchen's Reviews and comments
Food at Fable is always unique.
You wont find similar menu items on any other restaurant.
The ingredients are of high quality so almost everything has that fresh, buttery, balanced taste.
They update menu every one in a while so its a good idea to come back regularly.
You just have to find a reservation spot.
Staff is very friendly and attentive.
I enjoyed Fable but was expecting more. Their service is excellent but their temporary patio area which was the only available seating when we went is extremely underwhelming. Overall there were aspects I liked and aspects that missed the mark.
I enjoyed the Oakwood's Warm Salad, Roasted Rack of Lamb, and Strawberry Rhubarb Cake (the best of the two desserts). I disliked the squash puree that came with the main and was surprised the meat was medium instead of medium rare as ordered, although I personally still enjoyed the meat as I'm fine with either. I was pleasantly surprised at how smokey the asparagus was though.
The food was like a party in my mouth. Absolutely delicious but the amount was barely enough for me. The pasta was also great. Had to give 4 stars just because how pricey it was. I had the Gnocchi 💚
I recently pounced on these BIG & MESSY take-out sandwiches at Kitsilano’s excellent 🥪Dirty Bird Sandwich Shop🥪 pop-up by @fablekitchen. The menu comes up with 5 sandwiches which are served on rotating bread of the day. ✨Oh FYI, bread can also be substituted for gluten-free bread or lettuce bun !!!!!
——
I have tried 2 of them -
🍄 Pulled Mushroom | vegan
🦆 Corned Duck
Both are beyond great. The balance of sweet and salty makes the sandwiches crave-worthy! I would definitely go back and try the other 3 cuties.
Needless to say, photos speak themselves.
BEWARE OF HOSTESS!!! I went to this restaurant for the first time. I went this morning and doors opened at 9am. Hostess asked if I had reservation and I replied no. Me and my husband were the only guest and no one else was behind me. We were brought to a table next to the washroom. The entire restaurant was empty with no patrons except for me and my husband. My husband asked for another table away from the washroom and she responded that all the other tables have reservation. We were taken by surprise. Especially by her attitude and tone of voice being stuck up attitude. Thankfully the waitress saw the situation and stepped in to make things right by bringing us to another table. The waitress, Jaclyn was attentive and provided great service. The food was good. When we were almost done dining, the time was 9:30am and looking around, there were two other tables that were occupied. And both these tables were near the middle of the dining area. I felt the hostess was targeting us for being asian with having us sit next to the washroom with an excuse that all the other tables were reserved was an excuse. I hope others have better experience than what I had today. I'm just thankful the waitress made the rest of my dining experience much more pleasant.
Amazing service. Exceptional food. Incredible drinks. Our server Daniel went above and beyond our expectations. We can't wait to return!
Highly recommended the gnocchi dish.
Went there for brunch with a friend of mine. It took their staff long enough to come to our table. The menu is small and the food is basic. All and all not too bad.
Came here with a couple of friends, we had a table reserved. Very cozy little place with delicious quality food. The bread and butter was really good for $4, especially the butter. Didn't taste like regular store bought butter, so definitely give it a try as a starter. I ordered the smoked duck breast. Friend's ordered scallops and a pork platter. The scallops were amazing, they melted in your mouth. Waitress and even a chef explained everything on the plate, which I really enjoyed. Duck breast was really good, had it cooked medium and it wasn't tough at all. Great date place as well with the dark, candle-lit environment. Would definitely come back again!
Best brunch in town! Breakfast potatoes masterfully salted, fluffy pancake with maple syrup, even the toast was good!
I couldn't ask for more on a slow night at the restaurant. They were about to close but accommodated us . We were very hungry but didn't wanted to eat heavy so we ordered chickpea fritters n beets salad. N omg... my best chickpea fritters ever. So heavenly fresh n soft to eat. Beet salad was even better. I guess the fresh ingredients flavoured so well.
I forgot the name of my cocktail but it was delicious n refreshing. Loved the ambience n decor inside. It was peck clean n all covid precautions were taken. Staff was very gracious n smiling. Would love to go back to try duck dish .
I was here for my birthday. Great service and very helpful while recommending pairing wine.
Bread was good, butter for bread was better. I had duck breast. That was good, very tasty. The rest were too salty.
We didn’t complain. Just wanna continue my birthday night.
The staff and the atmosphere was phenomenal. We ordered strip loin steak, gnocchi, duck breast, and halibut; they were all great, nothing was too heavy and flavors blend well.
I would wish the menu gives more variety. However, as a first timer at Fable Kitchen, that didn't bother me as much.
So amazing! Great service! We had the canned tuna appetizer, gnocchi with pork belly, and duck. Just delicious.
Food was overall good, food is polarizing for the price you're paying. When it's good it's very good, others are so-so.For starters we had the canned tuna (fantastic) and the lamb sausage (not bad). For mains my friend had the duck (tasty!!) and I had the cod (a bit bland). Dessert was the smore, this was great! Overall I'd recommend trying this place out!
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, love the sharing plates, food was very tasty. I reccomend the warm oakwood salad.
Amazing flavours. Got to try them when u can. • 🐼 •
I recently enjoyed a four-course dinner with wine pairing at Fable and it was delicious! Every course was perfectly cooked and paired with a wine that brought out the flavours. Our server was excellent, the entire experience was wonderful.
Great food and service. No complaints.
Went for Dine-out 2019. It was somewhat busy but our friendly waiter Claude did well! The place is cosy, when entering and waiting to be seated, you have a view of the kitchen. Then it smells so good!
We got the kohlrabi salad (good), chickpea fritters (good), braised lamb (good but the pistachio cream was not very pistachio), squash gnocchi with extra pork belly (good) and lemon meringue parfait (good). While everything tasted very good, the portions were on the smaller side (fortunately, the restaurant is close to Rain or Shine, where they get ice cream!). This 3-course was $35, with extra +$5 for the entrees (+tax+tip).
Recommended, will very probably come back!
Went to the Fable Kitchen for date night during Vancouver’s dine out. The choices for the set menu were diverse and really represented the microcosm that is Vancouver. The Chickpea fritters had a very Indian infused flavour which you could still savour in your mouth after your swallowed it. The Gnocci was perfectly cooked and the added pork belly was a beautiful addition to make the already rich dish richer. For dessert we had the squash cake which honestly just tasted like carrot cake, but as a huge carrot cake lover I was pleasantly surprised. I will tell you no Fable or Lies, the Fable Kitchen is definitely worth your time.
Had my belated birthday dinner at Fable tonight. It was my first time but definitely won't be my last. Amazing service, dishes and atmosphere. It's wheelchair accessible. The mushroom dish was to die for! We also ordered duck and the ling cod but I was neck deep on chowing down my meal! I loved the chic chill vibe and how each dish was brought to the table and described in detail. Small restaurant but big vibe. Kitchen staff just plated everything too tasty to eat. I'll see you guys soon.
Went there for brunch, great services, waiter very patient & detail oriented. Foods taste 👍🏽 met my expectation & portion just nice for lunch.
Had a great time at Fable. The food was all excellent as was the service! This place was busy all night so if you're checking it out, get a reso. We also brought our own wine, which is a great option, for which there's a $20 corking fee. I'm hoping the pics of the food speak for themselves. You can't go wrong here 😊🍷❤
Great service, food here is best shared. Delicious plates. Definitely will be back.
Second time here and am always pleased with the food and service here. Very busy for dineout but we were never kept waiting! Chickpea fritters were my favourite, though the squash cake was a close second. Fish was a little salty for my taste.
The staff at Fable are wonderful - very attentive and fun. Charred beets and fried cauliflower were great appies; oysters, bread and crushed potatoes were so-so. The mains were also a mixed bag: the ribs and duck were great, the fish dishes are decent, and the gnocchi made no sense at all - 6 pieces of gnocchi with some bacon for $27? I mean thanks for the portion control Jenny. I’d also be more into the ambience if the art weren’t so tacky: on every wall are badly photoshopped landscapes overlaid with corny, dollar store-worthy poetry in cheesy fonts.
Amazing atmosphere, incredible + unique food, and exceptional service
Pretty good brunch we had the pork and fish with poached eggs. I thought latter would be weird but surprisingly good. It was crowded so we were seated at the bar. Service excellent.
Been long time but its recommended
We had a great experience here. Staff was very friendly, and the food was out of this world. I got the Halibut with the pea risotto and my girlfriend got the squash gnocchi and we were both blown away. I only wish I was in Vancouver longer so I could eat here again.
Taste: 7/10
Value: 7/10
Ordered:
French toast: quite sweet. Toast was well made perfect amount of fluffiness and crispiness. Glad we shared don't know if I could have finished one on my own.
Scrambled eggs: the eggs in the glass jar was definitely the highlight. Marscapone cheese foam + spinach + bacon + eggs made it very very yummy. Best part of the meal for sure. Toast was crispy hashbrown was average.
Overall, might be back, good scrambled eggs!!
I just had dinner here and the food was vey good. Halibut was tasty and the taste of tomato soup with cheese is so rich. Service is excellent and we had a wonderful dining here.
The service is excellent and the open kitchen is good. But for the dish I ordered, egg benedict is just ok. The Hollandaise sauce is a bit sour and the muffin is not soft enough.
Such an amazing place for brunch. Our food were so tasty!! Especially the steak & egg, which was recommended by our server. The service was great and fast, considering how busy the place was. Definitely will go back to try other dishes!!
Fable has been my favourite restaurant in Canada for the past 2 years!
Very attentive service from various members of the team. The Irish hostess was especially charming and so was our main server (forgot the name, perhaps Graham?). All the food was amazing, great presentation, good quality ingredients, nice mix of different flavors. The cocktails tasted great too! The place looks stylish and although a bit crammed, still comfortable.
Fantastic everything. Brussels. Halibut. Pasta.
Was here for dineout 2017. Was also celebrating Valentine's day at the same time.
Upon arrival this place has a really hip look with their unique decoration and brick walls. Their kitchen is also in view so you can see their chef prepare their food. Their menu is limites to a few select item and is generally on the pricer end. (We order both from the dineout menu and regular menu)
Their food were very tasteful, and to follow is the breakdown of the food :
Chickpea fritters - this was really good. Fritters were full of flavour. And a mix of different textures. Crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside.
Roasted Squash salad - very very special **highly recommended can get this anywhere else** the salad tasted really fresh and their unique use of nut crumbs was perfect, giving it a extra crunch on the salad. the dressing was really flavorful and tasty.
The best canned tuna - didn't look too appetizing, but more than what meets the eye. It really is the beat canned tuna. Filled with various herbs and olive oil. The tuna is not just fatty and rich, it was also filled with other flavors that will play with your senses. You get a hint from sweetness from their orange zest and savory taste from the herbs as well **highly recommended, you cant get this anywhere else**
Slow roasted lamb shoulder - was really surprised that they were able to make this removing the gamy taste. The lamb was moist and tender, full of flavor. But it didn't really stand out too much.
Mushroom Cavatelli (with added 48hr short rib) - awesome pasta here, you can tell it is handmade, taste a lot different, it was really bouncy and fluffy. The paired toppings of onions, brussel sprouts, porcini, and chanterelle really completes the dish. The short ribs.... wow full of flavor, really tender and moist. (too bad you cant just order the short ribs alone)
Lemon meringue parfait - biggest let down, the presentation was perfect the sweetness really masks everything. I later found out that this was bought from neighbor store and not made in house. Kind of a let down when everything else tasted fantastic
Squash Cake - was really interested with their squash mousse and eggnog pairing with this. Very unique taste (in a good way) however, still disappointing that their dessert are bought from neighbor store.

Canned tuna is delicious! Knowledgeable and friendly staff provide a great dining experience
I go to Fable every year for my birthday and it is always amazing! The food is fantastic and the service is even better. I have never had a bad or mediocre experience, it has always been spectacular. I highly recommend this place! It’s my favourite restaurant in Vancouver by far.
Very nice hosting and well prepared food
Came here for our mother’s birthday dinner and we had an excellent experience! I was quickly seated and the server quickly came by and asked what drinks he could get for me. He was very warm and welcoming.
We had the canned tuna and spaghetti + duck meatball for appetizers; both were so flavourful and seasoned just right. For our mains, we got a variety of dishes: the ling cod, duck, ribs, pea gnocchi and pork pappardalle. All the dishes were great; however the ling cod came with bok Choy and those veggies were far too salty. Perhaps we just got a badly prepared batch.
When we informed our server he thanked us for bringing this to his attention and he would provide the feedback to the kitchen right away. He also adjusted our bill to compensate for the issue.
I was really impressed with the food here, but I am so so pleased with the supreme customer service they provide here. I’ll definitely be back.
We really enjoyed our time eating here, very unique interior decoration, the food was delicious and our server was superb! Definitely will be back again.
The service and atmosphere are really good. Too bad we waited a little too long for the food, other than this it's definitely a must-go place on your list!
Great food and selection at a great price.
If you can get a spot, the brunch options are divine.
Great customer service and amazing food
We recently did a virtual cooking class with Chef Trevor Bird. It was a fabulous experience! All the fresh ingredients were delivered ahead of time. The video instructions were pre-recorded and allowed for us to move at our own pace & rewind as necessary. Trevor accompanied us in the live chat and was very responsive. The meal was delicious and we learned tips that we’ll apply any time we cook fish in the future! Thanks Trevor for a great night!
Fable is such a great restaurant with an amazing atmosphere, an impressive selection of wines and beers. The food is amazing and there's so many vegetarian options. This is definitely the best food I've had in Vancouver so far.
Delicious food! The rosti are crisp but not greasy. The eggs bene are not too heavy and the yolks are perfectly runny and golden orange. The pulled pork Johnny cakes are super filling and we couldn't finish them. The sauteed spinach and mushroom dish was probably my favorite there. The bacon was really fatty and rich so best shared between friends rather than have on your own. Servers were attentive and knowledgable.
Awesome food but the drinks just ok.
Great restaurant with a focus on local food and drink. Chef Trevor Bird and team serve up innovative dishes in a casual environment and service is spot on.
Fable kitchen is a great spot for a western style brunch. The farm to table vibe is pretty sweet. We had the scrambled eggs and farmers muffin. The scrambled eggs are super light and fluffy, and come with Parmesan foam, which is amazing. The farmers muffin is like a dressed up sausage and egger. Also delish. Give it a try. Good prices, freindly service, chill vibe.
I've had better experiences at Fable before. This time, I ordered the Miso Glazed Sablefish and sat at the bar as I like to watch my food being prepped. Unfortunately, I saw my plate and the sides lie there for a while until the fish was plated and then at some point also brought over to me. The fish was excellent but overall the dish was rather cold and the sides were undercooked. Fable is still a good spot IMO but this experience was mediocre.
I took part in an online cooking class by Fable on New Year’s Eve. They delivered all the food, already portioned, and it was great. The instructional video was informative, well-paced, and fun to follow. The meal was absolutely savory and delicious. This was a great initiative that helps keep restaurant workers employed, and also raised money for Backpack Buddies. I highly recommend taking part in an online cooking class, and I’m looking forward to going to Fable in person when I’m able to.
If you are looking for a fullsome meal, comfort food and a kick ass milkshake - look no further!
Service could be better though.
went here for dinner on a monday around 5pm. this was the perfect time as it turned out to be not too busy , and they also have a set menu available before 5:45 pm that comes with appy, entree, and dessert for under 40$! the food was so flavorful .
we had the focaccia bread to start, then the chickpea fritters and duck meatball (these are both MUST HAVE items that have become a staple of their menu), pasta of the day, and this delicious lemon tart dessert . can’t say enough good things about the food here. the staff is very knowledgeable about wines too! my partner is very picky about his wines but the server knew exactly what to suggest. there’s a reason this is the best reviewed eatery on west 4th !
Amazing people ; beautiful flavorful food ...all in an ambiance that makes you want stay awhile
Haven't been back for a few years but it's rather disappointing this time. Not as tasty as before. The crispy rock fish is quite yummy tho.
Loved the food, our server, and the atmosphere of the place! The roasted duck was 10/10
Best. Sandwiches. Ever. The price is too low for the quality and taste of the sandwich. Such a good deal
Sooo good. Dont mind paying a small premium for quality locally sourced food.
Good food, excellent service. Came for birthday dinner. Staff were very friendly and provided great service.
Ordered the slow-cooked beef chuck on feature menu. It was tender and good, but a little on dry side. My companion ordered the paella. Tasted good but definitely not like Spanish paella.
Never had anything less than a delicious meal at Fable, definitely one of my favourite restaurants.
Nice brunch spot in 4th Street, though I think the likes of Medina is still better if you see choosing between places. We ordered the eggs Benny which was average, I thought it could have had more flavors to it with additional items but it is what it is. I also ordered the cauliflower salad which had a nice mix of slices to it though the cumin and parsley were just a bit strong in my opinion.
Amazing restaurant. I'm from Toronto and always make a point to eat here when visiting Vancouver.
We tried Fable for thanksgiving dinner after a frantic search for places serving Turkey that evening. Our sever Daniel was amazing! He was so kind, went above and beyond, answering several questions about the menu and gave us an amazing dining experience. The Turkey and sides were delicious. We also really enjoyed the beet salad starter.
Went for brunch. Had the ling cod fish cake benedict with a very simple and refreshing salad of mixed greens. Place was packed but service and food were excellent 👍
A fantastic eating experience. Attention to detail, no problem adjusting menu items for dietary needs, and amazing ingredients. I will def recommend this place and visit again!
Stop by here one day, you won't regret.
Fable is always good and very consistent. The farm to table approach is always a good approach. The cocktails are very delicious. The menu is ideal for all you can get an appetizer, small main or entre and don’t for get their desserts. This is always one of my Favourite restaurants to bring friends or family when in town.
Lovely little spot on Kits. We stopped here for lunch today and had the Pasta of the Day. The staff was very friendly and service was good. The pasta dish was amazing - great fresh, lemony, cheese sauce with perfectly cooked pasta. We will return!
Had the French toast, it had a large portion size and a generous amount of cream and berries
This is my favourite restaurant ! I have been going to Fable since it opened up. Their Spaghetti and Meatballs is so good, I refuse to share this appy with anyone else. I am just wondering when they will open their restaurant back up again, its been closed for a few months.
Good dine-out selection!
They should change the brand of the tea they offer. Cheep low quality teabag doesn't fit with the rest of fables awesomeness!
Homey, inviting, with excellent service and outstanding food.
Super delicious Dirty Bird popup Resto for a delightfully small & special menu of Sammy's & Salads that really hit the A+ in the healthy yet deliciois food trends and on top of their game with the Corned Duck, Pulled Mushroom & Love In the Club sandwiches. Great selection of wines & beers to pair. Ask for Chef recs :) Pickup orders only, worth the bit of wait, can order ahead though and save the waiting in line altogether. Great lil shop! #westfourth #shoplocal #smallbusiness #supportyourrestaurants B
Had such a great first time experience. It's so good to know that the owner chef wants to connect and with his guests.
Nice brunch
The flavors and selection were excellent!
Delicious, Amazing, wow !!! Presentation was absolutely beautiful and the taste followed suit.
Service was excellent and perfectly paced between courses. Fancy and creative options on the menu. Really cozy setting... Everything.
110$ for 2 (incl. tips and drinks) if I remember correctly
Amazing service with dinner
A really nice dinner, a bit on the pricey side but you’re paying a premium for farm to table. I got the special that evening which was an elk steak. I found it to be enjoyable, however slightly under seasoned. All the dishes we ordered were rich, but creative and well presented. I might return for brunch but not sure if I care for their dinners too much. Our server was fantastic!
I had a good experience the first time I visited the restaurant everything was excellent. Recommended to my friends and we all decided to go together. Got a table for four with a party of five and food came close to an hr to get. Had to reorder a drink which never came. I understand the place can be very busy but I thought I was paying for more fine dining experience then the average restaurant. Needless to say my friends were not happy with the place and I was disappointed I brought them there.
Supper yummy brunch and friendly staff.
Absolutely fabulous. We ordered the halibut collar, salmon and duck and all three of us raved about the delicious flavor combinations of each dish. Service is great with a knowledgeable wine advisor. Dessert (strawberry shortcake) was excellent as well. Would absolutely go there again in a heartbeat.
Amazing food, great service, lovely atmosphere.
I was not able to complete my dinner at Fable Kitchen as my friend was not feeling well and had to be taken home. I had placed an order for a strip loin steak and duck breast but was not charged for it when I had to leave abruptly, even though both dishes were nearly ready to serve. While I was offered the choice for takeout I did not go for it as I had to take care of my friend first. I really appreciated the excellent customer service and would definitely come again.
Me and my wife had dinner at Fable Kitchen recently. The place is very nice decorated. All the people who are working there are very friendly and foods are excellent . I specially loved tomato soup. One extra thing that I would like mention is, there is no TV screen there, so, people take time to talk with each other .
Thank you all
Ali and Mas
Excellent service. Every table was in use and the staff was hustling but our waiter still found the time to be attentive, listen and made excellent suggestions. Food was delicious, I had been told to try the chickpea fritters and was not disappointed. Every dish we had was shared between us and we found them all to wonderful. Only regret was no room for dessert. I will definitely come back.
Amazing and fresh food, dangerously delicious cocktails, wonderful atmosphere and such friendly staff! One of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver! Don't miss out, come for a yummy meal!
We had dinner here with a large group after a day of meetings. The chef had prepared a 10 course menu for us without having to go through the hassle of ordering. I'm not sure what creations we were all offered but the presentation of every dish was excellent ,flavors very good , first time ever I liked something that had beets in it ! Place was crowded and it's fairly loud so maybe not the place for a candlelight dinner but a good place for a unique dining experience. Nice wine selection too !
The place is nice and its always full, but I didn't like their food...it was not tasty. I've to try it again someday...
The food was good
Very cool atmosphere and delicious farm to table food! Great service
Great food, very well prepared! Pricey fixed menu for V-Day
Had a wonderful meal with great friends. We opted for the chefs menu and let chef Trevor decide on our evenings dining adventure and we’re not disappointed. So many courses of delicious, seasonal and perfectly seasoned food. Would encourage all to sample the chefs menu. What a treat having Trevor serve one of our many courses himself. Fabulous dining experience and impeccable service.
Good food. Good cocktails.
One of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver. Great food and cocktails, and really friendly and informative staff. I've been four times, with large groups and with a date and it's great in all situations. Service is always amazing and the food is almost always incredible as well. Highly recommend the "canned tuna" as well as whatever bread special they have going.
Delicious!
Really good food
Best pork breakfast sandwich of my life.
Decor and service could be slightly better but still 5 stars.
We stopped for lunch here on our way out of town. We just popped in hoping there would be a place for us and they did a great job accommodating us. The restaurant has a fun vibe with an awesome and unique chandelier in the center and interesting art on the walls. The whole restaurant is pretty small including the dining area, a tiny little open kitchen, and a couple small bathrooms in the back. They do a good job with the space though and have lots of nice seating. Our server was really nice and attentive. They have some gluten free options on their menu and she was able to point me in the right direction. I had the burger lettuce wrapped and it was good. We had nice service and a quick and pleasant lunch before heading back to the Seattle area.
Great food. Great wine. Great service.
