La Palma's Reviews and comments
Good tasting 100-layer lasagna.
You can taste the different quality ingredients.
Portion size is slightly on the small side.
Went with a group of 8 last Saturday and got the family style prix fixe experience. I don't write reviews often but had to write one for this dinner experience. We had the best time there! The food was impeccable, perfect balance of flavours and texture and the most important thing.. seasoning was perfect! I had no idea what dish was coming next and I didn't care which was great and the wine kept flowing. Service was amazing too. You know you had a good time when you're at a restaurant for 5 hours with continuous great service, great food and great conversation. Will definitely go back.
Sat at the bar upstairs and the bartenders were great! Cocktails were good. Upscale place. Would go back to try the food. Vibe is great.
Cocoa pappardelle was interesting. Slightly chewy pasta went well with the very mushroomy sauce. Vanilla panna cotta was very sweet. Figs were a good complement. Cocktail was refreshing and ambiance was a 10/10. Staff very attentive. Good place to enjoy an evening.
Food was good, just wish you got more of it. You're definitely paying for more of the ambience and views here
Delicious meal with great cocktails and service was attentive! Thank you
Absolutely amazing. I loved the atmosphere. We were on the second floor. We opted to sit inside as there was a slight chill in the air, but they do have great patio seating as well. I loved my 100 layer lasagna. It was hearty and filling and good food for the soul. I also enjoyed the chicken liver mouse but didn't find it as filling. The gnocchi was also delicious. Giancarlo was very attentive and made the evening perfect.
We tried the 100 layer lasagna and it was really very nice. Not soggy like most other places, and each serving has crispy sides which most places miss. Not too expensive for the quality either, we will be visiting again.
Lovely restaurant, great food, tasty cocktail, one of my favourites in the city!
They had excellent food and service, perhaps one of the best places we've had dinner at. Friendly staff, and and a nice cozy place. Would definitely go there again, and recommend others to visit as well.
Really good food! Chicken liver mouse was phenomenal, so was the panna cotta! Wish the steak ribs had more in quantity given the price, but it tasted really flavourful.
Love this place! Definitely recommend the flank and panna cotta!
Came here for wine and their famous 100 layer lasagna and both did not disappoint. I think I could've easily eaten 2 portions of those lasagnas myself because it really was extremely good. Perfect crust and the right amount of cheese/sauce! The atmosphere is also very lovely and makes for a great date night (even for take out)!
The food was good but not memorable. The pizza was very mediocre. The best dish we had was the 100 layer lasagna. If you are a lasagna fan then this is definitely a winner. The steak was good but nothing to write home about. Potatoes were good, burrata was just ok. The ambiance is very good but at the end of our meal we were asked to leave to free up the table for the next reservation. This was strange as we were only dining for 1.5 hours. As far as I know a reservation is a 2 hour seating. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here.
Great selection on website will use them in the future
This dish deserves an easy 10/10. Lasagna is fresh, crunchy edges and the choices of cheese are paramount. A complete mouth [email protected] Will pay the chef to teach me.
Pro tip via Uber Eats: Preheat oven to 375~ reheat for 8-10mins. Add Parm and off to paradise.
Compliments to the team. Dish is unreal. Would love the opportunity to learn it. Blessed.
Finally got to come and check this place out today and it was great! Last time we tried we couldn't get in without a reservation and I can see why. My gf loved the ambience and decor not to mention the food, drinks and service was sublime. Make sure you actually squeeze the lemon on the fish (it's not garnish) and the lamb was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back again in the not so distant future.
Amazing lunch experience. Tried the cauliflower & grape salad and the lentil rocket based salad, along with the potatoes. Loved the presentation and the service. The atmosphere was relaxed and we got to be seated even though we did not book in advance. Will love to go again!
Excellent Italian food and service. Decor makes you feel like you're at a seaside restaurant in California. Definitely a popular new hot spot, with limited seating time. Unfortunately we were asked to leave as our table was reserved for another pair of diners. Never a pleasant experience to be asked to leave, but understandable given the popularity of the restaurant.
AMAZING. this place is a hidden gem. Their staff were super welcoming. I went for drinks so we sat at their upstairs lounge/bar. Wine selection is insane. Bread is to die for. Washrooms were impecable. Will definitely come back.
An overall great experience. Big fan of the hummus toast and cauliflower dish. Service was great. Love the decor in this place; had to check out the upstairs too. Again great service up there, a cosy environment and tasty cocktails. Will go again.
Missing this gem during the lockdown, but luckily they are available on Uber eats! If you haven’t dined here yet, the 100 layer lasagna and charred broccolini are a must have!
We went to La Palma to celebrate a birthday recently and I have to say, it was one of the best culinary experiences I've ever had in Toronto. The cocktail menu was so sublime we didn't even look at the wine list. We went with the chef's choice tasting menu for dinner and it was out of this world incredible. Our server could not have been better; attentive, well informed and delightful. I give La Palma my highest recommendation. Just be prepared to spend some cash. It's not cheap.
Had a really amazing dining experience here for dinner. Staff were awesome and the food is so flavourful!! Highlights: steak, lasagna, broccolini & potatoes
amazing food. service was exceptional. Ambience is great
Highly recommended and will return for sure.
Great ambiance, service and food! We loved the 100 layer lasagna and the chicken liver mousse. The cocktails were also delicious.
Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food!! Went here for Saturday brunch, it was busy and we didn’t make reservations, but we were seated quickly, and our server was super nice and attentive. Can’t wait to come back and try out the other things on the menu!
Enjoyed a tasting menu with wine pairings many delicious items. The Squash ravioli with braised beef ribs was amazing! Would have loved to try their 100 mile lasagne but it wasn't on the menu 😞
It was a really great time!
Food, ambience and service are all 5 star. Note that you'll need to order several dishes as the plates are meant for sharing and thus smaller than a full course. If you go, order the Charred Broccolini and Flank Steak (which is incredible).
We had a great experience here, on the second floor patio. They were happy to accommodate vegans. We had a custom vegan pizza, the potatoes (minus the aioli), and the broccolini, and all were delicious. We also enjoyed the cocktails.
This place is fantastic, especially when the weather is good enough to open the windows. The food, like the space, is modern but comfortable and inviting. The service is great without being over the top. The cocktails are also very creative.
superb breakfast for brunch. super clean trendy and nice staff. we tried the breakfast menue and pretty much everything we ordered was spot on. I highly recommend this place for a weekend brunch specially
Great service, good food. The dishes are well plated, seasoned and executed, but they aren’t very creative. The best dish was probably the side of crispy potatoes we ordered. In all if you’re looking for an exciting, new, and unique experience, look elsewhere. La Palma delivers the classics and it does it well. I wish they spiced up their dishes in some way however to get me more excited.
Lovely restaurant. The food was delicious and unpretentious; the service was attentive and friendly. Would recommend making a reservation in advance; although we managed to get a spot there first time I visited, didn't have the same luck on my second try.
Great brunch / lunch spot - service was excellent and all our food was delicious! Coffee is very good as well!
Amazing food, amazing ambiance. Will be back for sure!
Absolutely delicious brunch and make sure to order a side of the crispy potatoes! The staff was friendly and we never felt like we overstayer our visit. The painted walls and a beautiful complement to the tasty food.
La Palma is one of the unique delicious casual eating place that is impossible to get a reservation and kicks you out after 2 hours. Yep, they're fancy, fun, tasty and stuck up (in their own way).
We ordered 2 appetizers (salad & crostini) and pasta dishes. We absolutely loved the 100 layer lasagna. It had a delicious crusted cheese top and lovely tangy sauce. Made and presented like a cake, was scrumptious!
While we got seated right away, out server was quick with still / sparkling Q water and warned us that the next table will be coming in at 8pm (6pm reservation). Took a while for them to return with food and other drink orders. We came here for a Christmas celebration and when just over 2 hours rolled around, we were kindly.... Asked to leave (not so many words).
Food was great, service was decent but if you're going to be around to socialize and enjoy your food and drinks slowly, you're best going elsewhere.
This place is hard to get a reservation to. I was lucky enough to walk in and get a seat at the bar on a Monday. I can see why. The food is really tasty with a nice diverse menu. I ordered the beef tartar, broccolini, octopus and short ribs. It was all delicious and flavourful. Service was good. The next time I go back I will try the pizza and Lasagna which is their specialty.
Edit 9/03/18: ate here again and tried more of the menu. The quality is still very high. The lasagna was amazing. Love the crispy exterior and soft centre of it. Just wish the portion was bigger. The fish was really nice and the spicy potatoes was delicious. My only gripe was the flat iron steak which was a little under cooked and wasn’t the best quality. I had difficulty eating and chewing it. The desserts were nice but on a hot summer day they should have a gelato or ice cream option. Service was good as always. I will continue to eat here.
Great upscale food , best flat iron I've ever had. Definitely not expected. Service top notch.
Loved this place. It's a high end restaurant bit though but really good quality. Highly recommend
The staff were very friendly. For breakfast, we ordered chilled salmon (must get), avocado crostini and crispy potatoes. The place is very vibrant even for breakfast (can get very loud). Good thing they open the upstairs bar area for Mother's Day (much quieter and enjoyable experience). The upstairs also has some area for kids to sit and just be kids lol (not their intention). Overall, we had a great time.
The 100 layers of lasagna was really good!! But the top is a bit too much burnt for me so it was hard to eat.
The steak was tasty but the ash smell was way tooooo strong i couldnt smell the beef. But not bad, i liked it!
The cauliflower on the other hand was amazing!! I would order it again if i visit again next time. Amazing portion and amazing taste! Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned.
The atmosphere was very hyped and a bit loud. No casual outfit. No birthday dessert, but a small candle in a cup.
(I still miss Campagnolo 😭)
Love it. Great food, service and great wine selection and prices.
The good:
- very tasty
- lovely space
- good service
The bad:
- small portions
- loud, inappropriate music
- pricey for neighborhood and portion
We were here for lunch on a Saturday. First impressions were very nice interior! Clearly going for more high-end feel. You can tell that from the restroom. Nice soap, hand lotion combination. The space was well decorated and loved the huge window. Gets a lot of light.
When we settled down on the table, I immediately noticed the inappropriate loud music. N bombs and F words everywhere which were totally against the high-end theme they were trying. Nice little jazz would've suited this place much better.
The food was actually the best part, lamb chops were great, pasta was tasty but could help but notice the small portions. I mean, it's pasta. The Italians will never allow small portions on pasta. It's just not right!
It does get busy, however I was somewhat disappointed. Because the food is fantastic! But the other things makes this place just 4/5. Just a sight improvement can easily make this place fantastic.
(Don't lose your chef, he's the reason for your success so far!)
Such a great spot! The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly and helpful while picking dishes. The only feedback that I have is to invest in sound absorbers, it’s pretty loud and almost too loud like a cafeteria.
Food was served on time and i enjoyed every bit of the tasty meal.
Service was off the night I went, very slow. Food & ambience was great tho, please try the lasagna, you won’t be disappointed.
More than 2 years after we discovered your restaurant on a porter airplane magazine we at still talking about how fantastic the service and food was.
Very unique cuisine. Great service. Reservations recommended. Had the famous lasagna, the flatiron steak, and tried the chicken liver appetizer. Everything was delicious. The main dishes do not come with sides and I recommend the broccolini with garlic and chili, was fantastic.
Amazing starter, we got the lomo iberico and the roblioa rochetta cheese with pineapple gelee, both were phenomenal, especially the cheese. Tad bit expensive for the serving size.
Enjoyed the second breakfast gin and tonic. Could have used a stirrer to combine the Aperol with the rest of the drink, also could have used a bit more earl grey.
LOVED the sweet corn agnolotti, the pop of that sweetness as the filling was amazingly balanced with the slight sourness of the sauce. The 100 layer lasagna was nice but nothing to special, the burnt crust might have added flavor and texture but was just a bit too burnt.
Service was quite nice, would recommend reserving a table but walk-ins are acceptable as well. Stunning presention throughout!
The place is so nice and the service is amazing! The food is also very good, but I found it a little bit expensive considering the small portion!
Food was okay tbh. Service was good
I give it a 3 because I didn’t really like the endive and castlefranco salad and I took a couple bites of the lasagna and there wasn’t really anything that struck out to me as “omg this is amazing”
I’d love to come back to try their brunch menu though.
@nomsoftoronto
Delicious food, beautiful atmosphere. But small portions, definitely not recommended for groups or a place to have family style dining. My guest nor I felt full after our meal. The portions were about the size or palm of one's hand. For what you get in comparison to other Italian eatery it is quite expensive which warrants the three dollar signs.
We had the lobster slider, which was about the size of 2 glue sticks, the bread was sweet and there were lobster pieces but definitely does not warrant it's $22 price tag. This was an appetizer.
For entree we ordered the 100 layer lasagna, which the server informed us is not 100 layers but about 30-40 layers of pasta in between 100 different ingredients. The lasagna was about the size of a 5" cell phone in size. While rich in flavour quite small and also $22. The edges were crispy and the insides and the pasta was soft but not soggy.
We also ordered the acorn squash and lentils. I expected it to be a salad or meal inside of a cooked squash, instead it resembled more of a salad with the lentils, quinoa and squash pieces surrounded by a bed of arugula. While I loved the balanced the flavours and textures between the quinoa and the crunchy chick peas, there was something mixed in the sauce that left an odd after taste which was less than desired.
Definitely would recommend reservations, a nice restaurant utilizing garage doors as windows - beautifully well lit for all your social media photos etc.
The first night I got to Toronto, myself and some colleagues went here last minute because it was listed high up on a popular food blog. It was definitely worth the trip across town. Although the portions were small, the quality was incredible. As you can see by the photos we ordered a large variety of dishes; originally we planned to only have two courses, but we really wanted to try as much as we could. Highly recommend!!
Amazing place . Decoration is beatiful and service is incredible . Their cocktails are amazing and they have different types to stay all afternoon and try them all . Different types of food that makes you want to try everything on the menu . I would mostly recommend the starters or shared plates ! You can try a little bit of everything. Def going back !
Great food and amazing service. Went during a very busy time, but I didn’t have to wait long for any of the food or drinks. Also, the panna cotta was really delicious…only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I didn’t love being seated next to the bathrooms.
The decor, vibe, service and food was all amazing. The squid ink pasta was exactly what you would expect it to be with delicious fresh pasta and the cacco e pepe flatbread was unqiue and delicious.
Delicious food. Good wine selection. Awesome service.
Authentic Italian platter served with finesse... Loved and cherished it.. Recommend reservation beforehand..
First time at this unique location. There is an eclectic array of foods including plenty of vegetarian and fish choices. A short but decent menu with no daily specials. A touch more pricey than what you would expect to pay for lunch on this part of Dundas West, so make sure you’re prepared. Very friendly and comfortable.
Great food! We both got the 100 layer lasagna & as an apetiser the roasted cauliflower! Excellent taste, although it was very expensive for only 3 plates (100$)
Everything about this place was beautifully executed. The design of the space to the sensory experience of the chefs in the back. Food was good, the 100 layered lasagne has to be the staple, must try!
I just have to say that the lasagna is probably the best I ever had. You gotta try it!
Really enjoyed everything about this place. From the decor, to the service and most importantly the food - everything was fantastic. Everyone raves about the 100 layer lasagna, they're right - it's fantastic. But my favourite hands down was the cacio e pepe pizza, a terrific spin on the classic pasta dish. You won't have the freshest breath afterwards, but it's well worth it.
This place was stunning! Such amazing food and service. We sat in the upstairs area, it was so chill and cute up there. Highly recommend for dates!
What a wonderful place to have italien style cuisine. We went there based on google notes. I really enjoyed having late lunch in the place. The staff was very kind and respectful. They helped us choose amongst different choices. We had a very nicely dressed salade with andive, pomegranate, radicchio, tarragon, poppyseed and touch of roasted hazelnut. Then came the turn to a beautiful plate of halibut accompanied with cooked vegetables and a roasted lemon. And also a plate of lamb chops for our daughter. The taste was wonderful. (See the pictures and judge by yourself) at the end we ordered a mille feuille with espresso that I loved too. All paired with two wonderful glass of italien wine. Everything was better than expected. I really recommend this place. Thank you.
Aesthetically pleasing decor (very instagram / tumblresque). Food was amazing, highly recommend the gnocchi’s if you’re looking for heavy pasta with truffle shavings. 100 layer lasagna was great too. Friendly service.
Italian is just not a good term to describe LA Palma - I'd lean much closer to Cali-Florida-Comfort-Luxe. The menu is an interesting and creative takes on beachy comfort food. Dishes like falafel with green pea puree and delicious pickled onions, Miami ribs, and mustard bbq potatoes all harken to satisfying warm-weather favourites, but elevated to fine dining.
The execution is a bit raw, with some texture imbalances (some potatoes dry, some mushy) and a hectic atmosphere, but the service is a shining star in the experience and truly some of the best you'll find in the city.
Splendid! Thats all I can say. The service was extraordinary. They pay attention to detail, very courteous but not on your face. The ambience and the white noise is perfect. The food, dont even get me started. We had so much food, unfortunately we only had pictures of 3 of them as we were to excited and went to finish them before we realise. The highlight of my night was the halibut, how it was done softly, and the charred mushroom was just delish. Its safe to say that im coming back for more. No wonder they are so popular! 👍
Good good. The potatoes were really good. Also menu isn't too big where you can order a bit of everything if you go with family. Very nice to share.
Lovely space. Get that 100-layer lasagne with all those crispy edges <3
Friendly service, nice variety on menu, clean restaurant.
Amazing food and great atmosphere!
Enjoyed the food here - I had the sweet potato agnolotti at the recommendation of our wonderful server, and I was impressed.
Our table shared a bunch of vegetable dishes as well, and all were delicious. The crispy potatoes were the overall hit.
The place is lovely, has a very light tone. Food is great and had a peculiar presentation. Very small portions thou, except for the pizza. I've gone three times within two weeks, and will be back.
Dessert is amazing.
Servers are friendly
Can get pretty busy, recomend making reservations in advance
The food here is fantastic and the service super efficient. The thin crust fig pizza is a must-have.
Food was absolutely delicious. The stracchino crostini was full of flavour and the favourite of the night.
The 100 lasagna was the best I've ever had.
Decor was on spot.
Our waitress, Karen, was superb!
Delicious food , gorgeous decor. Highly recommend
Great atmosphere, good food. The cocktails weren't really my thing, but still good. Overall, a tad pricey for the level of quality.
Beautiful space and delicious food Lasagne is a must try!
Fantastic food, great service. Several places we've been to in Toronto have been slightly disappointing, but this place was a pleasant surprise. Stopped in for an early dinner and ate at the bar. 3 dishes was plenty for the two of us.
Cozy atmosphere and delicious cocktails. Service staff were friendly and attentive; my water glass was never empty and I did not want for cocktails.
Real star is the food! I ordered the sweet potato agnolotti - well cooked with delicious flavors. It was the perfect portion size for me but if you're ravenous (or just used to typical restaurant chain portions) definitely consider an appetizer.
Overall a great spot and definitely worth the wait for a reservation.
Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Food is good
EPIC! - this is the second restaurant by celebrity chef Craig Harding and design master Alexandra Hutchison. The California inspired Italian menu transitions fluidly throughout the day from breakfast cafe through to a high-five worthy lunch and dinner service ultimately landing as a late night snack bar. The room has been meticulously curated and an open air breeze provided by the large garage doors makes you really feel like you're in Venice Beach. I'm lucky to live near by and have been 3 times in 3 days - go now and try the Gnocchi.
Very good food and fun cocktails. The carppacio was great. Service is accommodating and friendly. Slightly on the pricy side but lovely place for a celebration of any significance.
Cute pink decor. Food is good.
My first time trying an Aperol spritz! It was really good. Also, I highly recommend ordering the Cauliflower as an appetizer! Best cauliflower I’ve had!
Rooftop patio was great and the food was delicious! Service was awesome
Came here at 11PM super last minute to try and find something to eat after eating at a bar next door and it was absolutely outstanding. My friend, who has about 25 deadly allergies was accommodated for, no problem, by an angel of a waitress by the name of Karen. She is the absolute best, and so is the pizza :)
Excellent service, great wine and cocktails.
Some dishes and specials were not updated, but the rest of the menu made up for it.
Here is so popular so I recommend you booking before you come.
Best service and atmosphere hands down! Although it's pricey you are really paying the quality ingredients in the dish and it is worth it! I ordered the falafel mortadella, sweet potato agnolotti, Cornish hen, and the acorn squash and lentils. I loved all the dishes. One thing that stood out to me is that one of the chefs came and spoke to us! He was so nice. Would definitely go back to try other dishes definitely worth the price!
They gave my boyfriend a free cake when they knew it's his birthday. And if course food was amazing too
