Blue Canoe Waterfront Restaurant's Reviews and comments
10/10: great attentive staff, clean and fresh ingredients.
The Lobster BLT was phenomenal. The albacore tuna salad was just perfect after a day of whale watching and their burgers were devoured so fast by my hubby and oldest son I barely saw them at the table!
Couldn't recommend this place more highly, perfect views of the river and ocean as well.
Our experience at the Blue Canoe was great. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful weather while we ate here. My wife and I loved the seafood tostados and fish and chips. Our server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean. The washroom is clean also. Overall our experience was enjoyable and I will probably return some time in the future.
Absolutely loved the experience at Blue Canoe. We had the best fish and chips ever!!! We went on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't much of a wait time. The staff do follow covid protocols very well and are very particular about it. They do want people to wear masks if you are away from your table. Overall, I loved the experience and would come to visit soon.
We wanted to spend the weekend at fishermans wharf and decided to have lunch while we were there. We put our name on the wait list and was told to expect at least 15 minutes wait but miraculously they called us within 5 minutes that our table is ready. We sat in the patio because it was such a nice day and we really enjoyed the view from the patio. Our server was great and the food was good. I especially enjoyed the fish and chips because I had been craving fish and chips for weeks before this.
Came here for Dine out Vancouver to try the place out, wasn't impressed. The dine out menu is great if you're just wanting to try it out but taste and portion wise will leave you hungry and unsatisfied.
The chowder itself has some good flavours, but the croquettes are lacking flavour and taste bland; even though you can see the crab in it, you can't really taste it.
Sablefish risotto is small portion and if you're a big eater, this dish isn't for you. The short rib also is small and for some reason, the taste and texture reminded me of ox tongue for some reason.
Dessert itself is very sweet, almost overly done like it was store bought, or at least that's how it is with the truffle chocolate cake. The cheesecake on the other hand isn't that bad.
Verdict: come for the view, don't expect much from Dine out.
Food is nicely plated but the taste is not impressive. We enjoyed the mussles. There are other restaurants in Steveston that serve better tasting food.
Everything is very tasty. The stuff is super friendly! But there is a small choice of the good wine.
The best restaurants are in Steveston Village l ha been on each one and they are unique, great services and the food so delicious. Also the atmosphere is so relaxing ⛅
Happy hour, with its odd times of 2:48 to 5-something, is fantastic! We love the flatbread, mussels, calamari and especially the red wine: Lakeside Cellars Meritage.
Food tastes superb here!
Came to try the dine out menu.
The scoop:
Fennel Crusted Tuna Nicoise:
The dish looked like edible artwork.
Tuna was rare inside and seared outside. The sauces, potato, tomato, olives, etc. was all very tasty and worked well together. A light and refreshing appetizer.
Roasted Sablefish with lobster and prawn risotto:
The fish was cooked perfectly. Finding the lobster pieces in the risotto was like treasure hunting... :)
Salted Caramel Cheesecake: the dessert was unfortunately just average entirely. Nothing tasted spectacular but it was still good.
Came on a sunny Saturday around 2pm. The pier was packed but no lineup or wait for a table on the patio. Service was friendly and attentive. Ordered a dozen oysters ( japanese + classic). The Japanese style was amazing. Main fish and chips also tasty
Fresh seafood, nice relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit.
Had a Seafood platter, they were all fresh.
Highly recommended 👌
I love the Blue Canoe. It was ages since we’ve gone. Great setting and the staff are friendly.
The menu selection is good.
Enjoyed dine out menu, the croquettes needed more seasoning , although the portion appeared small the sable fish with lobster risotto was amazing topped off with chocolate cake. Managed a couple if happy hour items, recommend the sangria and the crab dip! Sorry no food pics, great view though!
I ordered chef D's burger and smoked salmon bruschetta. They are so delicious!!!! I would definitely come back again! Thanks for delicious meals. This place is wonderful and staffs are friendly.
Great waterfront seafood restaurant. The fish and chips were great as was the ceviche.
Be prepared for long waiting of your food. Looks like kitchen is on fire due to small size of kitchen. Waitress are line up and waiting for food come out kitchen. Don't know why didn't bring our soup and starters first so we could at least have something to eat while waiting for main courses. Food are delicious, in a bit small portion but just enough for small eater. A little cold on the deck where we were sitting even it's fully enclosed with heater on. Waiter bring us dessert for free because of long waiting, very kindness. Other than that, a great place to have good time with friends or family.
Absolutely excellent. Service was above and beyond. Would definitely visit again
Good service... foods were delicious except the spareribs, which was quite dry and too sweet...
Excellent happy hour menu and drinks, affordable, generous portions and delicious . The ambience is very cozy with a lovely view . Service is fast and outstanding. Christine gave us a lovely professional service . The house wine is very delicious .
Love to go back soon. Happy hours goes from 2:48 to 5:16 PM.
I went to Stevenson with a few friends last weekend. And we decided to try out seafood since we were by the sea. This place caught our eyes with the big blue name, so we decided to go inside. The seats are cozy and spacious. The restaurant was following social distancing which is also very good. The tuna tartar salad was very tasty and the seafood pasta was very nice too. I will definitely recommend this place to people who has never been there.
Tried the Dine Out Menu on the last day of the event. Soup and foods tasted very good. Very nice and helpful staff. The reason why I only gave it 4- star because of the seafood chowder run out of seafood! There's only one small shrimp and one very tiny piece of clam meat as well as few pieces of potatoes and carrots. No salmon, cod or mussel was found! But the soup taste good though. The Arctic char was so good! Last but not lease, both dessert were taste very good!
Very good place
Delicious
Good service
Clean and safety
My son and I had an amazing time. Julia was one of the best servers I have had. I was in the industry for many many years, and Julia stands out. Plus the meals we had were top notch. I highly recommend 👌 ☺ 👍
Our experience at Blue Canoe for Dineout2020 was good. The food was okay. I ordered the prawn and scallop risotto for my appetizer which they have on their regular menu. The description to this appetizer sounds amazing but execution was lacking; the seafood was overdone while the risotto was underdone.
For my entree, I ordered the Arctic char and I was afraid when I saw that it was paired with risotto. But thankfully, it was executed better (not crunchy) but it was average. The Arctic char however was delicious, too bad the portion was bit on the small side. I also found it odd that the risotto portion for the entree was less than the portion for the appetizer.
For dessert, I ordered their chocolate cake with chantilly cream and it was very good, not too sweet and the right amount of chocolatey flavor.
We did notice that the portioning was inconsistent for the orders at our table. The saving grace to this meal experience was our server, Cindy. She was friendly, helpful and over all pleasant, making up for the average food.
AMAZING food and awesome service! Food arrived quickly, even on a Friday night, and staff is very attentive! Lemon-garlic shrimp & scallop saute with mushroom risotto is delicious as is the smoked salmon bruschetta and the oysters were very fresh
Great food, exceptional service! Thank you so much!!
Went for lunch on a Sunday and got seated at a good patio spot with heated lamp. The view was good and the food was tasty. We got fish and chips and grilled salmon as well as half a dozen oyster. Turned out better than expected!
Great restaurant location overlooking the water. Seating outside is lovely, heated and with a small throw blanket for your lap if it gets chilly. Service is great, very friendly staff. Got all orders right and food came quickly. Only downfall is that all menu items are overpriced for the amount and quality they give you. Otherwise, good place to eat and socialize!
Friendly staff, excellent food if a bit small for my taste. Great place right on the water. Well worth the drive and visiting
Beautiful views from the patio and even better food! Lobster BLT is awesome and the calamari was some of the best I've had in a long time! Great job to the team!
Fresh oysters and great seafood chowder. The service is great too. For sure will come back for more again.
Darling little waterfront restaurant on the pier in Steveston. Great views. The food is very good & fairly priced for the quality. I am a regular. Living around the corner affords me the luxury of being able to nestle in here whenever I get a craving for a light Chardonnay & scrumptious treat. Blue Canoe is one of my faves in Steveston.
First tip, make a reservation because this place IS popular for a good reason, the food is delicious!
We had the Arctic char, salmon, seafood linguini and halibut entrees. The portions were good and the sides were not so overwhelming to take away from the star of the dish. We also enjoyed calamari to start, it was excellent!
Wait staff was professional, knowledgeable and very polite.
Yes it looks empty in my picture as staff was diligently following covid distancing protocol.
Such an amazing vibe here and loved the food. Will be back!
Dine out dinner menu 2020 at $35 was a steal. Taste was on the salty side but good. Portions were generous. Recommend prawn & scallop risotto, Arctic char, and truffle chocolate cake (not pictured)
Seafood is fresh.
Delicious food, good service, gorgeous view, and reasonable price!
Food was ok. Portions too small for the price you’re paying. It’s not fine dining but it’s fine dining prices. There are other places in the area that cost less and more tasty.
Often meet family here for lunch!! Great service.
Dine out 2019
Never been here and lived 10 minutes walk from the village. Finally decided to try this place out. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was great. The cook on the salmon and arctic char was spot on. I had a bite of the chocolate cake first and it overpowered the flavors of the panna cotta. Totally enjoyed it and would recommend it.
lemon garlic scallop & prawn sauté and canoe signature seafood chowder appetizers.
citrus crusted arctic char and crispy sockeye salmon entrees.
truffle chocolate cake + chantilly cream and panna cotta + wild berry compote desserts.
Paired it with the viognier.
Very nice restaurant on the pier. Lovely views of the harbour. Fresh oysters and fish. Friendly and attentive service. Definitely a place to visit.
Great atmosphere, mediocre food. I had the Warm west coast salad Nicoise. Flooded with a pool of oily dressing, and meagre portions. Salmon was good, decent potion for a salad. Two tiny half potatoes, a couple of green beans and olives. Would have been made better with a side of crusty French bread, like how it’s normally served in France.
Stopped in during a layover. Awesome food and service. Highly recommended!
I love this restaurant! Top 3 steaks I have had in my life. Will definitely be going back here!!!
A bit pricy but best pasta and burger I have tried in Vancouver, espscially Richmond. I love to go always.
Excellent restaurant. Great ambience, great food and super friendly staff. Try the cioppino ! So good !
Great view, good service but food pretty blah and not very hot.
Great meal, had the seafood chowder and the lobster clubhouse and got to watch the sunset over the pier. Who could ask for more?
With the view and the fresh seafood platter haha
Love this place . I always come on my day off to work on some company stuff . So relaxing and good view :)
Blue Canoe is the best in Steveston village. Service great. I will be back for mussel marrineire. To die for.
They have heated patio and they provide blankets. The view from patio is spectacular. Staff is friendly🥰😘❤️
Nice service and good food. Their lobster dinner was very good.
Very friendly staff and food was really tastey!!
Been here 2 times so far and the service was friendly and efficient. Happy hour has really good deals! Their bartender Steve(?) makes really good Ceasars, Tara was friendly and efficient
Best patio on the pier. Decent food. Friendly service.
Food was excellent. Enjoyed the seafood chowder and the shrimp tacos. Staff were very pleasant, attentive and accommodating. Definitely coming back.
This restaurant is definitely higher quality with higher quality ingredients, a lighter higher prices but altogether a great meal. The location is prime with the patio having a lovely view of the fishing pier, the ocean, and the fraser river right in downtown Steveston. It has a nice menu with lots of seafood options. All if the appetizers looked amazing but we went with the crab dip. It was garnished with slightly too many peppercorns for my liking but it was quite good. My main dish were he fish tacos which were really good if you like seared fish as they do not come fried. The spices on them were really tasty. My boyfriend had the warm salad which was delic6ious but only came with one anchovie. The server was very sweet and the overall experience was good. For a fancier dinner, I would definitely check it out.
Great place! The ambiance and the food, 5 stars!
Great view and even have blankets if you want to sit outside. Prices are a bit over average but very good.
Great seafood platter! Would recommend coming here for fresh seafood. Getting a table was problematic. They did not call us when they said they would.
Great food, great service, fair prices and amazing views!
The place is nice, but is a regular restaurant. That is waterfront is its only "special feature". That do not justify their prices, which are steep. To its owner/management I'd say "get real".
We attended for Dine Out Vancouver 2019. I had the sablefish appetizer, it was large enough that it looked like an entree. The squash risotto was delicious, and the fish was perfectly cooked! The entree I chose was the striploin, it was tasty and tender and melted in my mouth. The wilted kale side was bitter, who eats kale anyway so I left it! The creme brulee was a bit bland, the berry mixture on top overpowered the cinnamon and honey flavours, but it was still good - just not what my mouth was expecting. Service was excellent. The view even at night was pretty, and I am sure we will all go back.
Great service, location and view. I cannot say the same about the food, though. Not too bad but somehow underwhelming. It is a shame.
I would probably go there again but only for drinks.
Nice water view. Friendly staff. Food is good exepect the fish and chips portion can be bigger.
Good place for chatting with friends in front of a scenic water front. You may enjoy happy hour from 2:48pm.
I wanted to try their food as well, but was too full 😂.
I just had wine at terrace seat and it was perfect decision to enjoy the sun set :)
Servers were friendly and nice, too.
Only one thing I felt as cons was I dont know what their concept is tho, I would prefer sound music rather than listening match all night 😣
was kind of annoying, mood breaking part 😂
Post Covid & now Patio Dining only.
Great attentative service matched with great food. We started off with perfectly prepared Calamari and black peppered wings to start.
Our waiter never missed a beat. In fact, when the Host/Hostess was temporarily away from the front check in, our waiter took us through the safety routine and got us seated right away. Gotta LOVE that.
We then shared their 2 piece fish and chips and another round of drinks. Great meal once again. Oh yeah, it doesn't hurt that the establishment has killer views.
Great service during my dad's birthday 😊
We had a great view and good food. Their mussels and chowder are generous and tasty. Service was bit slow the last time were here but today it was excellent. View of kitchen not appealing in terms of cleanliness and organization.
Revisited restaurant labour day weekend and had a great meal. The Nicoise salad was fantastic. Warm potatoes, string beans on a bed of Arugala tastefully seasoned with anchovies, mustard seed, whole red peppercorns and fried capers with a light vinaigrette dressing. Mounted on top was a perfectly grilled slice of salmon delightfully seasoned. Fantastic and very reasonably priced. Second selection was a smoked sable on a noodle cake in a fabulous broth.
The service was great as was the view. This chef know what he/she is doing.
A must if you are in Steveston.
Staff was friendly, food tasted amazing. Patio was nice to enjoy the area
Great food great service great location
Great seafood, good service, very nice location.
Service great with a wide variety of seafood at reasonable prices Right on the ocean in Steveson
Love eating out here in summer! Gorgeous view and delicious food. Both seafood and burgers are fantastic :) Great service as well.
Lovely views from the patio. Good food and service.
Food was delicious. I ordered fish and chips 🍟.
Service was excellent and very friendly.
A big thank you to Rob and his team! We had a really delicious anniversary dinner.
Keep up the good work😊😊😊
I came here for date night and the resteraunt was good! The staff were very kind and helpful. They gave us helpful suggestions when ordering and suggested good wine pairings. However I suggest that they stop in to check in on diners more frequently. We ran out of garlic butter sauce for our crab and had an incredibly difficult time flagging down the server. This contributed to the 3 star rating. However I would like to make special mention of a server that went out of her way to help us:
After we were finished eating, our fingers were coated with seafood bits and sauces. Our server was nowhere to be found, so I flagged down any employee I could find to ask for some wet wipes, or if I should just go to the bathroom. The employee left and returned with a very creative solution because the resteraunt was out of wet wipes. They filled a bowl with warm water and put a lemon in it. Although simple, this shows the committment of this employee to find a solution rather than taking the easy road and simply saying "we're out, sorry". Thus although I can't remember the employee's name, I would like to commend them for their outstanding committment and creativity.
The food on the other hand was phenominal! Everything was rich in flavour and noticibly fresh! The Yacht platter has a wide array of seafoods to pick from with many sauces available for dipping and coating your food! Lastly, the atmosphere was fish/sea themed. It really made the experience comfortable. However a seaside view in my opinion is critical to this resteraunt. So critical in fact that I wouldn't have ordered if I wasn't able to get a seaside view. We were placed at an area that had a seaside view, but were told that due to covid restrictions we need to sit with our backs to the ocean...... I understand that covid is serious and social distancing MUST be observed but doesn't it make sense to face the ocean where the water droplets will exit the resteraunt rather than facing inwards? And secondly shifting the table 2 feet (away from other tables) and twisting our chairs by 90 degrees would've allowed for even greater social distancing while still maintaining an ocean view (this option would make more sense to management as they understand the layout of the resteraunt). The server didn't even try consider this option when it was mentioned and this made the experience difficult for my girlfriend and I. This severely contributed to the 3 star rating. I would love to come back to this resteraunt because of the delicious fresh food and the lovely and helpful staff, but perhaps after the pandemic.
Got the crab and corn chowder and a pint of lager. My girlfriend got the same soup and an amazing ceasar drink. Was a delicious place to stop for a meal. Service was great and the veiw is amazing.
Fish and Chip were ok. I like my batter more crunchy. Portions are great! Love their vintage signs.
Tasty with good service.
Excellent meal, amazing views and excellent service. Only good things to say about this place.
