The Royal Oak - Bank at Gloucester's Reviews and comments
Awesome seasonal drinks, atmosphere and appetizers.
Well located, just south of Office district / Parliment / Sparks Street. Just North of Bank Street shopping and services.
Great for [email protected], Or Lunch, or anytime.
If you are carving for classic breakfast
This definitely hit the spot
First time here for both my partner and I. Spacious, with a nice atmosphere. Service was pretty good except when we stepped out for my partner to go for a smoke, and the waiter immediately took food away when we weren't done eating. Anyways we ordered pitas bread with dip and deep fried cheese curds which were delicious! I would say my experience here was pretty good!
Love the food and service here, it's one of our top places to grab a drink and some food. Their Philly cheese steak sandwich is yummy and I love their deep fried cheese curds ( sorry didn't get a picture of them)
Exactly as expected even better. The hostess was friendly.
Food was totally acceptable for a pub.
Drink prices are reasonable.
Open on Sunday afternoon even in winter.
Standard pub grub. Atmosphere is typically non-authentic. Apparently the nachos are supposed to be good; we didn’t try them.
Food was great. Brittney was a wonderful server. Very attentive.
Food is good, reasonable price, super friendly staff.
Random turns out a wild success story ! We walked in here because otherwise we would have fainted . The soup of the day was mushrooms and warming . The fries were cut to perfection. Well Royal oak , we met some friends here , and we learned that this is the hang out place for the members on the softball league. It was great meeting you guys!
Great atmosphere. Great service. Thank you!!
Breaded wings are the saviour for people like me who ALWAYS spill and splatter wing sauce!
Very good pub place for all your beer needs that also offers surprising tasty food. It’s a chain pub and feels cozy. Daily beer specials are very appreciated.
We had lovely waitress there, their drinks are a little bit more expensive that it should be, the food was good and tasty, we tried fish and chips (Friday special) and the sausage one.
Yummy food, quality bears, and friendly staff - what else can you ask for!
Beers are good, food is OK but service is horribly slow, even on days when the place is mostly empty. The daily beer specials are pretty good value. And a special shout out to their chicken and ribs event going on until the end of November. The ribs are the best ribs I have tasted in town. Better than all of the rib fest offerings, Lone Star, etc... I dare say it is almost better than my own although I prefer a dry rub. The ribs were meaty, tender and coated with just the right amount of sauce. Whenever we come here for lunch we always plan extra time for the slow service. This place would be four stars if the service was faster.
Friendly staff, good food and a great selection of draught beer.
Love the patio, great staff and a fish and chips that will lure you back for more! The digital menu works well. This place has it going on! Clean and classy.
My favorite watering hole. Always friendly staff and good food!
Great food and friendly staff. We love coming here.
Quick and friendly service and very good food! Thank you
Nice and friendly place. Would recommend to a friend.
Food was good and hot. A little pricey for what we got, but not too busy and food came really quickly and service was excellent
The food is just bad. The only good thing is the service. The menu doesn't make sense for me. Going from American stuff to french stuff, to Italian stuff and Greek stuff.
Trying to make too much plates in the menu is maybe not the greatest idea.
Love when I find a pub with pulled pints! The ESB was amazing, as was the food and service. I only had two nights in Ottawa... rather than explore other places, I came here both nights.
Excellent best pub in town
Nice place to hang out with your friends. The food and price are ok.
Good place to meet friends, great atmosphere!!!
Basic bar with friendly staff
Good beers and a great burger!
I like this Royal Oak location. Lots of seating. It's not so loud you can't hear yourself talk. The service is great and prompt. Food is pretty tasty. Try the antohitos. Pretty clean, glass and silverware doesn't have spots. I come here often.
Great place to stop for a bite to eat with friends, enjoyed a spicy ceaser and some munchies... no rush, the staff was friendly.
Never had a bad experience here, and I've been coming here for over a year. Friendly staff, tasty food, and an awesome beer selection.
Fast and friendly service. Good selection of food and alcohol at reasonable prices. Street and lot parking is available. Establishment is kept relatively clean even during peak dinner service on the weekends.
Very friendly and attentive staff at this location. I also have nothing bad to say at all over 10 visits.
Outdoor seating, friendly staff
Very decent lobster rolls!
The Royal Oak on Bank Street, Ottawa, is one of those North American "pubs" that seems to do a better job of being a pub than its British counterparts. The pub is well appointed, offers a well stocked bar and varied food menu, and whether seated at the bar or at a table, there is a TV screen within line of sight for those who need more company than their friend's or maybe even their own. This is a city pub so perhaps parking is not a positive but it is close to the city center and situated on one of the city's major thoroughfares/public transport routes.
Excellent experience great customer service... Waitress was friendly and the cocktails were amazing!!! After a long hot day at work it was nice to enjoy a nice refreshing drink and some food with friends and excellent service.
Our group had made reservations for approx. 15 people, and when we arrived, we had our own private room in the back. This was great as we can laugh quite loudly. Food was amazing and the staff was just fantastic. The atmosphere was a typical, cozy pub. I'd highly recommend coming here.
Amazing food for good prices. The waiters are very attentive and sweet. The establishment very clean. The drink assortment is good as well, with good offers every day! Will definitely come again! If you have room after a hefty meal, the deserts look yummy. (I was too full to try).
A decent pub with a classic vibe. They have pretty great drink specials every day, that always seem to be good values compared to other bars. The staff is friendly and welcoming.
I changed my rating from 3 to 4... the Staff this time around was much friendlier... the food pricing is still a little high me... but overall. It's good.
Went with a friend for dinner and tried their steak. At just under $20, this was a great steak and paired up with a 32 oz pint for $7.50... it was perfect. So good that we came back a few hours later for another round of pints, another steak and some dessert.
The service was excellent. The staff were friendly helpful and quick with our orders. Definitely coming back!
I feel like the Oak isn't a destination... It's somewhere you end up going when it's 8pm and you haven't had dinner. Great to stop in for a pint and some food- it's just not top notch. Super convenient and their patio is really cool, wedged in between two buildings with lots of overhanging ivy. A tad overpriced for what you're getting but that's to be expected. Service is pretty good there too.
Staff are nice and more than accomadating. Not to disruptive but make sure you are taken care of. Prices of food are a bit high for the portion sizes but nothing I have had is bad quality it's pretty good pub food. Alcohol is reasonably priced. Overall a decent little spot.
Good fast service. Went there for lunch, so we were time constrained. Food was reasonably good, decent selection of beers.
Stayed in downtown Ottawa and needed to grab dinner with the family. Decided to go to the Royal Oak and didn't expect it to be family friendly. Was pleasantly surprised when the waitress said she was going to grab the kids menu for us.
Had the shepherd's pie which was good. It was definitely different from what I'm used to. It tasted more home made and not the usual ground beef in a loaf pan covered with mashed potato then sliced. Wife had the fish and chips since it was on special and it was quite good.
I also ordered a side of onion rings which was definitely over priced. It was good but not worth the extra.
Server was good but it's not really worth what you pay for a meal. I got the half salad half fries option which came with maybe two mouthfuls of greens and maybe like 8 fries which when you're paying almost 20 bucks for a main is a huge disappointment. The extra 4 dollars to substitute for a gluten free wrap is criminal. People who wonder what's wrong with the restaurant industry need to look no further than here.
I used to love going to the one on Laurier years ago. They had the best wings. The service is friendly here. Food is good. I would come again.
Was there as part of a massive group. Even with 60+ people ordering a la carte, the service was quick. Food is solid, standard pub fare, with a few interesting options. Good place as long as you don't mind drinking Bud or Goose Island with your meal.
Great place, amazing service. The menu is not so diversified foodwise, but is fair for beer and wine. Great ambiance, I would recommend the place to share a meal with friends or colleagues.
Don't listen to the idiots on here giving it a 1 star review. This place is great! The food is well priced and the staff are friendly. Their shepherds pie and steak n mushroom pot pie are made fresh in house and delicious. Their fish and chips portions are huge and their meat loaf is also very nice.
Give this place a try!
This is a great location to get together with friends! They have great specials, friendly staff, and a great ambiance. The restuarant and even the washrooms are always clean. The food is great, with an awesome selection! Always happy to meet here with friends or large groups!
Pretty decent place... I'll give it a 4 star due to prices for quantity of food... 23$ for that size of nacho and 15.50 for 8wings is not a good way to get people back in.... Probably the reason why it's dead on a Saturday night
It is your typical eatery atmosphere. Fast foods. Good place for business meeting or birthday parties.
I visit this place from time to time and every visit has been good except the last one. I ordered the soup of the day and found a little piece of a plastic bag in it. They didn't charge me for the soup. I give it four stars because this was the first time I had an issue.
I've been coming here since I was a child and it still a kickass place. The food and the service are amazing. Plus they really are involved with our community. So come on over and check it out. Seriously. :)
Stopped in with co-worker prior to a meeting. They had Irish beer and meals on special for st Patty's. Beer was good, boxty was excellent.
Service was fast and friendly.
The place was busy, so I assume it's popular.
I would go back.
Excellent service. We are federal employees and we had to be in and out in an hour (from 12 to 1:00pm) and they managed very well!!! Food is excellent!!!
Good food, nice drinks, not too expensive, lots of seating and the music is not too loud. The place is cozy, you're not sitting on top of each other and the ambience is good.
Consistently decent pub fare combined with good service. Good place for a quick lunch or after work drinks.
3.75 stars
The classier of the downtown Oaks. Feels a bit more refined, but not the classiest Oak downtown. The crowd is a bit less riff-raffi-ish as well. Can be a fun location for people watch the foot traffic on Bank and Gloucester as there are windows all around one corner.
Lots of sitting room, great bar and great corner view. Good folks working there to greet & serve you.
We used a room in the back the book club meetings and it's a great location. Much gratitude for use of the space. Location, atmosphere and service all great. Wish the menu was a little more varied.
Amazing staff & great food! 🤟🏼 They have a great beer selection and a really cute patio. I recommend this place! 🍻
I have been here 5 times over the past 6 months. Nice beer and good pub food. Nice warm atmosphere and present staff. Well worth a try.
Great royal oak! Small side street patio. Great views from bank street if you like to people watch. Food is also good for the price.
I liked this Royal Oak Pub's delicious Lobster Pasta and washed it down with a Sprite. Their service is fine too. 😛
Good pub fare and a decent selection of common beers. People seem very friendly here. Great place to drop by on A Saturated afternoon and have brunch and a beer.
Great place for a casual pub experience. Be careful as they are often very busy for lunch with work parties.
I do have to warn that the bathrooms are not wheelchair accesible as they are down a flight of stairs.
Good pub fare. Good service
The menu is adequate for a pub and so is the food. As expected they have a good selection of beers and ales.
One of the better Royal Oaks. Nice atmosphere, not too loud or packed. Good range of beers and food send to be better than other Royal Oak locations.
Laid back local pub chain with some decent domestic beer deals.
The staff is great. The location is great. This Ottawa chain knows what it's doing.
The menu's become pricey over the years but it's a good place to chill - the beer was good and the wings were decent. The ambience is nice and relaxed. We got a good server.
Buttermilk breaded hot wings with a good hot sauce. Good sized wings as well. Good selection of beer on tap. Servers were friendly.
Staff was friendly. Didn't have anything to eat but one person beside me really enjoyed her french onion soup. Other people seem to order wings, must be popular. The only downside I had was that a pint of cider was $10.
Great pub. Good food. Good beer. Great staff. A winning formula.
Good location. Fantastic bartender. Yanni was funny, efficient and superb with customers. We come here specifically because of him.
Pretty typical pub. Food is decent, beer selection is lacking, but they have a great selection of fine spirits.
Great service, great food, good times
Atmosphere is good. Lunchtime is quite busy. Food is well made but the portions are a bit small for the price.
Decent food and staff. Very busy for weekday lunch. Always have a contest/draw for something or other. Nice patio in the back off of the street.
Great choices of scotch. Service was quite pleasant.
Everything I’ve eaten there so far has been great. The mango fish tacos are my favorite. Great customer service.
The new outdoor patio was pretty nice. Better than i remember
