Metropolitain Brasserie Restaurant's Reviews and comments
This was a good restaurant to try out. It is not a place we'd likely go a second time because there was nothing that really made it stand out but it was a nice evening. Nice menu with many pub style foods and upscale pub foods available. Everything was made well and the servers were fantastic.
First of all, if you’re a seafood fan, you have to try their oysters! The sauces and horseradish that they come with are an absolute cherry on top. They also have an amazing cocktail selection - I am aiming to try all of them one by one! The food - portions, taste and presentation were top notch. The ambience was great and service was very quick and friendly. Will definitely go back for the oysters, and recommend to my family and friends when they visit from out of town!
This place has an amazing morning breakfast, the staff was number 1 and the food was perfectly presented. If you are Im Ottawa this is a must place to stop and eat.
I don’t usually give very many five stars because there is always room for improvement, but this place really impressed me, from the time we got there to the time we left, never felt rushed to leave after we were done eating.
Delicious food and great location too! Chantal is the one who assisted me today and make me happy just by her smile and vibe. I hope they could also put someone infront (front staff) with the same energy and accommodating vibe like Chantal.💞
An Ottawa-bubble staple for politicos - and the average person too! The place is great for a bite and a drink after work, staff always friendly and interesting drinks among the classics.
Always someone or something interesting going on at the Met - the East-est block of parliament!
Fabulous, amazing variety.
Had dinner with colleagues, everyone enjoyed the experience.
The options on the menu we’re surprising and unique.
Personally had a scallop crudo & the bacon wrapped monkfish, absolutely amazing.
Others had braised lamb, baked and fresh oysters, duck confit…
Just an amazing menu.
Great wine list and local craft beers.
This is a must try spot in downtown Ottawa.
It has a perfect location: In the heart of Bayward Market and close to Rideau Canal and Parliament. It has both nice indoor sittings and patio. Well, of course patio won't be suitable for winter time in Ottawa.
The staff are very nice and pleasant; we had a really good time because of that.
We ordered "Martini" for drinks, "Steak Frites" for entrée and "Flourless Chocolate Cake". The steak was perfectly cooked to medium and the fries were fresh. I enjoyed every bite of my meal.
My wife and I came here for lunch while visiting parliament. The atmosphere and service was top notch! The food, while a little bit pricey, was also very good. Many drink choices too. Highly recommend!
Great service, food was not really good. Took way to long to get our order. Expansive hot chocolate made with powder and water and only tasted like warm water.
This place will be a go to place for me whenever I’m gonna visit Ottawa from now on. From ambiance to service to quality of food everything is really good. Was craving for a good balanced something sweet. On servers recommendation ordered my dessert. It was divine. Balance was on point for me. Highly recommended.
To start the decor and building itself is very nice and definitely has a French theme. We started with half a dozen oysters , they were very fresh and tasty (from 4-7pm they are half price). My partner ordered a glass of wine from their extensive wine menu and was pleasantly surprised. The food itself wasnt the greatest especially for the price. We both agreed that the food was lacking flavour. The presentation was nice but very bland. We finished our meal off with the chocolate tarte my girlfriend loved it I personally did not , so your mileage may vary. Overall for the price we were left unimpressed. However saying that we are definitely going back for the half price oysters and shrimp.
Nice atmosphere, delicious food. Great cocktails! Service could be a bit better. But probably depends on who you fall.
Nice place To have supper or breakfast, very delicious meals and the staff is Nice.
The Met is an Ottawa landmark. Beautiful old European bistro atmosphere and a big open air terrace make this restaurant a very pleasant spot to spend an evening. The menu is also classic French bistro staples, but don't expect the quality to match the high prices unfortunately. This visit I ordered the oysters and ceviche to start and was disappointed. Ceviche is supposed to be cured in lemon juice, but this had absolutely no lemon or seasoning. It was more like sashimi. I had the Bouillabaisse as a main which was also disappointing considering it was $35. Nothing was "bad", just not up to my expectations.
On a chilly wet fall day, we sat in the covered patio area. Overhead heaters were warm.
Coffee (latte) was good and hot. Avocado toast with scrambled eggs was tasty. Avocado could have been smashed, but the sliced pieces were fresh and ripe.
Poached pear waffle was a bit disappointing. The taste was excellent, but the poached was almost non existent. Half a small pear sliced.
Service was good.
We ordered a sandwich and I like how they put brie cheese inside to make the taste smooth. The other one we ordered was duck and I really have to say, the duck is crunchy on the outside and juicy inside. Really good.
We also ordered French onion soup but wasn’t as good as I expected. The soup can be better, compare to the price ($13) they set on the menu. I hope they can put more onion to make it sweater and put more cheese.
Overall it’s delicious. I was not disappointed.
Great server with a accents... Australian...British ...I couldn't tell, but he was splendid. Super professional service, quick on everything. He was busy with a massive table and our service was still top tier. Very much appreciated and made us feel super comfortable being our first restaurant experience with a baby!!!
Ambience is beautiful. I appreciate how diligent they were with the QR codes and protocols. Food was good, tasty and were surprisingly good size portions (was expecting tiny French cuisine size). Service, meh. Waiter was not very patient or polite. Felt rushed. Would go again though, could have been an off day for him. It happens.
My husband were in town for a march and wanted to find a place for lunch. This place did not disappoint! The patio is beautiful and reminds you of a French bistro.
We got the seafood tower and it was delicious. The snow crab didn’t taste fresh, but the rest of the seafood was delicious. We liked the mix of seafood and different items.
We split the ribeye Cobb salad. It was rich and delicious! I especially liked the poach egg, which made a delicious sauce for the salad. The steak was cooked perfectly.
This is an awesome place for lunch and an even better patio. I could have done without the wasps, but we really enjoyed our lunch!
Was very excited to dine here with friends. The outside patio at night was a very magical place and our server was fantastic. Unfortunately, I wish I could say the same thing about the food. It all started with the bread rolls, which were identical to the ones served on flights. The baguette slices, were also very disappointing. Pretty standard grocery store baguette- definitely not worth the hefty price. We moved onto the raw bar, which was fresh and delicious. I most enjoyed the oysters. For my main course, I ordered the lobster ravioli- which was meh. My friend ordered the fish and chips, but was unable to finish his fish because some parts were hard and dry. Overall, the experience and ambiance were great, but the food was mediocre. Definitely not worth the price we paid for each meal.
I really hate leaving bad reviews, especially when restaurants are struggling to get through a pandemic- but I felt that I needed to say something so that the food can be improved for future customers.
This is quite the fine french dining I'd love to go back again and again. Food is fantastic and if your budget allows it. Check the prices online and write down what you want to order, and hand it to the staff when you arrive. This seems to be the new BS norm, something to do with menu touching and handing out your paper order actually makes no difference. Lol. Anyhow you will enjoy the food here.
We wanted to support a local small restaurant as we’re able to dine in restaurants again.
Chantel was absolutely lovely, who recommended two tasty cocktails to accompany our French onion soup on a chilly day, and the soup was delicious. The interior decor is charming of a typical French bistro. I highly enjoyed an afternoon lunch at the Metropolitan.
Visited from out-of-town and ordered the French Picnic in advance. It was fabulous. There were no items in the selection we did not enjoy! This is a great idea and in a time where you've got to book reservations for absolutely everything, this offered us the ultimate flexibility, which it turned out we needed as we had to adjust our pick up time. Thank you Metropolitain Brasserie for all your help and a delicious dinner.
Fab little French restaurant with nice service and very good food. Had the duck confit and croque monsieur, all were excellent. The fries are absolutely to die for, best fries I've ever had probably. European style thin cut fries, and salted nicely.
Parking can get pricey and honestly a bit hard to find, while the prices here are a tad high and quickly add up. However overall it was a very good experience!
Patio was very elegant especially at night and the location was lit up with lights. The food was absolutely amazing everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. Also had a delicious Caesars drink to pair with my Asian inspired salmon dish.
This is the perfect restaurant for a romantic evening or a cold winter day. The food is both classic and comforting. Loved the steak frites!
Very tasty spot.
There was some kid with a mushroom cut, and arm tattoos who was dropping the food off. He kept slamming our food which was the only thing amiss.
If they replaced this kid, this would be a flawless dining experience.
Great place, very tasty food and desserts. Definitely will come back.
We went as family with 2 young kids and were surprised about the friendliness of the staff, very kid friendly, even with a little election game.
The food was very good - the calamari were perfectly prepared. And I had a lot of bad ones over the years...
Pretty decent wine list by the glass - following the scheme of French bistros.
Overall a bit overpriced in my mind and lacking the final touch to give 5 stars.
Ambience++, Great service, better drinks.
Always a good time. If you're a first timer, ask your server what they recommend and just get it. Odds are you won't be disappointed
On a Saturday afternoon, I took a friend here for lunch. The service was really slow (and poor), and the quality of the first dishes we ordered were below average: an onion soup and the soup of the day, which was some sort of gazpacho. Also, our waiter was not very attentive, so we decided to just pay the bill and leave (one star for this experience). Nevertheless, once the pandemic is over, I hope to give this place another try, since I previously had two great experiences at this restaurant a couple years ago (before the pandemic), including one during when I brought my family here for supper to celebrate my father's birthday (back then the service was great and quality of the food was amazing - five stars for that experience). I wish the owners good luck!
Good food and good service. The first waiter seemed a bit allnober the place. Which was quickly taken over by an excellent waitress. Friendly quick and efficient. Good food.
The service was good and consistent. The food was overpriced for the quality and quantity. My Cobb Salad was mainly stacked leaves of lettuce sliced into chunks as one would thickly slice a baguette and laid across plate hiding what little was on the plate. The small steak was done as ordered and was tender. The poached egg was cooked perfectly soft . The crumbled Blue Cheese was tasty but was literally just crumbs and a small quantity and not a very substantial portion. The outdoor atmosphere was very pleasant with warm breezes under the trees of the patio. We have to appreciate that It has been a hard time for restaurants due to COVID, so we really have to cut them some slack to get back up to speed . The Metropolitan was a very good restaurant and I expect that it will regain its status as one of my favorite go-to restaurant.
Fun French style menu, with escargot, oysters, frites, and a charcuterie board. I’ve been here many times and the food never disappoints. Cute atmosphere inside and outside in the courtyard. Equally as cute during the summer and winter months, with white ferry lights up year round. Great people watching spot too, since it’s in the corner of one of the busiest spots in Ottawa.
Pricey but food is mediocre..pale ale beer was decent
A little busy but for a reason. Great food and great staff! Very convenient location near all the hotels!
It was a Very pleasant experience. I really enjoyed my duck, that had an amazing sauce served with it. As a side the sweet potatoes were a nice addition. Beer was flavorful as well. Overall a very good restaurant in the centre of Ottawa, really worth visiting.
Went with a group of 3 for Sunday brunch. Found it very easy to make a reservation over phone and provide contact tracing information. Love the spot and live music, and enjoyed being under the gazebo even with the light rain. The service was great, and was easy to get coffee refills.
However, I must make a mention of the food. It was tasty but I’m not sure worth the price point - you are paying for the ambience and location. Not only did the server forget my toast with my steak frites (hence why it’s not in the picture), the portions are a little small. I also found it strange how they provided the inedible end of the pineapple.
Nice french food, good service but too expensive for the overall experience. To charge that much (ex.37$ for a small steak and fries), you would need to upgrade to some cloth napkins and tablecloth (instead of a sticky table).
Beautiful patio (well-covered on the rainy day), friendly servers, delicious food and great cocktails! My first real patio/ outdoor-dining experience in Ottawa, and I was very impressed. Hoping to return to dine inside!
Great food and service. I had the steak sandwich at lunch which was really really good.
Love the seafood plater
Excellent spot - great brunch and super lovely staff
Lovely decor, good service, good food.. nice place to be 🦪🥂
Great staff. Great service. Good patio. Good food. Good wine. They're doing a great job incorporating COVID-19 protocols.
The food on NYE menu was great! Atmosphere not so great and felt very rushed to get in and get out. The tables were crammed together and the ladies next to us had a hard time squeezing through to leave. Was served the soup course and waited about 5 minutes for our spoons.
Small yet filling portions. Exotic foods like escargot, lobster ravioli and seared scallops
Staff were terrific, I had two eggs over easy with bacon, deep fried potatoes and brown toast ,everything was well done, although the three thick slices of bacon were maybe a little over done. Place has a great vibe.
One if the best French Bistro in Ottawa. Loved it
We recently ordered take-out and went to pick
it up. The service was quick and the food was ready at the time we requested. Staff was also very friendly. We ordered mussels and fritos, steak and chicken fingers. Everything was very hot and tasted excellent. We will definitely be ordering take-out again!
Great patio in the byward market, my steak sandwich was fantastic! And my partner had a great croquet madame, we'll be back!
Pleasant, if tentative, greeting on 2nd day of having to produce vax status with training still obviously in progress. I'd been looking forward to trying the Metropolitain and a steak frites after a week+ in Ottawa.
Quiet, competent and pleasant server. Decent list of wines by the glass. Ok chef's salad to start. But steak (cooked to order) on a brown pile of sauteed mushrooms (extra charge) and a side serving of (good) frites on a white plate with not a hint of garnish in sight?
I've eaten in plenty of brasseries in France and elsewhere and the meanest cook would never send a plate out without a bit of parsley or something to enhance presentation.
Ditto with otherwise decent creme caramel. A half strawberry and a dash of whipped cream wouldn't seriously impact your food costs!
For meal with two glasses of wine, for nearly $100 before tip, try a little harder.
Outstanding service and food. It was delightful to sit and watch the world go by from their shaded patio.
Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Awesome espresso martinis.
Little expensive for me ..But nive staff
French taste in Ottawa! This place was so great that I went twice in two days! Their poutine is the best I have ever tried in Canada! My omelette was perfect. I would eat here everyday if I could!
Nice food and nice service. Food portions and the inside atmosphere is not worth the price.
We enjoyed a nice dinner at Metropolitan Brasserie a restaurant which could have been lifted from Paris. The steak frittes were good and the service Canada friendly.
Had their "French Picnic" takeout to eat in the park with my wife on our wedding anniversary. Wonderful meal with attention to detail. Highly recommend.
Good service and delicious desserts. It's nice to sit outside in their patio
We have eaten in fancier French bistros BUT......the food in this place is unparalleled. If you are into steak frites, duck confit, moules in pernod, etc., this is the place. We just keep going back.
The food was MEH. But service was amazing. The servers Kelly, and Josh were lovely and nice. They were worth the trip.
Just okay i guess, ordered steak sandwich. Was allright, fries and garlic aioli were delicious. All good for a family lunch.
Nice bistro atmosphere and very delicious dishes. Only downside is the price. Very pricey I found. But worth the treat once in a while. Love the outside terrace area.
The Met delivered a wonderfully social dining experience with excellent service. Thank you!
Food was delicious! Service could have been better (but decent).
First time there and wont be the last! Great service and the shrimp and the main meals were so great too!
I had an outstanding supper yesterday with delicious meals, drinks and very helpful and kind staff. 😃
Food is just ok. Service is great. Expect a long wait for food when it’s busy.
Great location, specially for events. Our servers were awesome. Basically everything was great and the only complaint is, the food could be more flavourful. Good experience.
GREAT service...tasty and reasonably priced food. Strict mass enforcement 👍👍
Excellent food and great staff. First time there but Michael helped me with lunch choice. I was very pleased by his recommendation.
Great patio. Delicious food. Not great service.
Nice patio and engaging service. Steak frites, halibut, and blueberry bread pudding really satisfied. Will return to try other menu items.
A lovely restaurant with delicious food and fantastic service.
Mussels and fries were excellent and service also. They adapt to allergies.
Great time.Great food. Authentic French bistro experience.
Good Food.
Server was very friendly.
Wasn't happy about the dog at the next table during our visit and No, it wasn't a Service dog.
Good place, just some reception girls are really not friendly, specifically with kids
First time eating here, and it was meh. First off, the waiters/waitresses did not look the most appropriate based on their attire and cleanliness. The staff are representing the restaurant so when you have staff who look grungy and unkept, it doesn't give off the best vibe. The food was okay. The croutons in my Caesar salad where soft/stale but the greens were good. I ordered the scallops and I felt like the dish was small for what I paid and not very creative. 6 small scallops siting on a bed of mash potatoes with a huge piece of melted mozza cheese. One dimensional and quite heavy. Not the best place I've been to all in all.
Ravioli was excellent. Setting was great. Service good too.
The food was great and the patio has a great atmosphere. There can be a line up at times so if possible make a reservation or go early its worth it!
Food was great only issue I had was very pricey for the morning menu. Don't go if all you want is some eggs . I ended up getting a big meal as it was only a bit more in price in order to get value out of my meal. At these prices coffee should be Included.
Gorgeous patio and well spaced out! Seafood sharing platter- delish!
Great service, good wine list, and great breakfast/brunch as well as dinner menu! I’ll definitely come back!
A beautiful bar with a French decor and great bartenders. It can be a bit more pricey and it is definitely not a late night party bar. Take your partners for a nice classy evening out at the Metropolitan.
Wonderful time visiting this restaurant. Atmospheric and good tasting food with loving company.
Ordered a couple of appetizers and main dishes. The staff were really helpful and patient with our questions. The food was delicious and very well prepared!
Great wait staff. Food was exceptional.
Amazing Wedding ! We couldn’t be happier that we decided to do our wedding at the Metropolitain. The staff was amazing and Sarah in particular made sure every detail was taken care of. we found Sarah very responsive , knowledgeable, she made having our wedding at the Met a breeze especially during COVID. The food and service was excellent and we will highly recommend anyone considering the Met for a wedding to go for it. Thanks again everyone at the Met for making our special day the best it could have been:)
