Aberdeen Tavern's Reviews and comments
Had brunch Saturday morning, what an absolute pleasure! Beautiful building, well-appointed interiors. Excellent food, drinks and service - the way a restaurant should be! This is where you take your friends when you want to impress, in a casual atmosphere.
Lovely place! It’s perfect for couples, and all dishes are decent and delicious. Must go back in the future
Great drinks, friendly service, and beautiful ambiance.
Food was okay, nothing extraordinary, and small portions. Hence I think it was a bit pricey.
There's definitely room for improvement.
Everything about Aberdeen Tavern is excellent. The ambiance the second you walk in to the exceptional wait staff and excellent food.
Lovely spot for a meal with family or friends. Straight forward menu but the food was prepared and presented perfectly. Local craft beer on tap -- small but tasteful selection. Ambiance was friendly/comfortable/casual and slightly upscale. We will definitely be back! A new favorite.
A very different kind of eating venue. Real candles, cloth napkins, dimly lit. Was a bank originally, the vault was used as a private dining area at one point which sounds cool. The food and service was excellent. Very tasty and friendly. The steak melted in my mouth like butter.cooked to perfection. Good wine and beer selection. Parking on street, no lots nearby.
It was truly a joy experiencing Aberdeen Tavern’s New Year’s prix fixe menu. From the flavours to the ambiance to the service, we brought in the new year the right way!
Great food (from appetizer to the carrot cake) and outstanding service. The servers all worked as a team, their timing for drinks, water refill, meal, espresso and bill was spot on and not intrusive. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend and we will go back again!!
We had a wonderful supper during Thanksgiving weekend. Service was excellent, great food especially the calamari, perfect texture. Gorgeous atmosphere, there is even a steel door that looks like a safe for an old bank.
Service was good but the menu is far too limited now. Brunch is two courses and does not even offer standard bacon and eggs option anymore. Does not have the same appeal it once had. I have visited on numerous occasions before and not just for brunch.
Love this place, I stop in whenever I'm in Hamilton. Upscale but not snobby. It's in an old bank with some of the original flooring and woodwork, it's a beautiful place with amazing food and great service. Plus they have this painting which I think looks like a lady Jonah from Superstore
Came for the $25 price fixe brunch, left feeling very satisfied! The crab cake was crispy and flavourful and the cheesecake french toast was phenomenal! Just be wary, the french toast was extremely sweet, I would recommend splitting it with another person and then sharing a savoury entree to cut the sweetness.
We recently went for brunch and we were not disappointed. From the Avocado toast, crab cakes, to the Eggs Benedict, and the Vegan "crab" cakes, everything was delicious. And the home fries were some next level $#!*. Topped it off with some delicious cocktails and can't got wrong. Definitely recommend!
What a pleasant place to visit. The tavern has a wonderful charming vintage feel and small, but well put together, menu. This is a great pleace for a lovely dinner with your significant other, friends, or family. I would highly recommend their salmon if you are a fish lover.
The old CIBC bank on Aberdeen converted into a fabulous restaurant with a scotch tasting room feel. Ended up staying here for 3 hours last Friday, great experience. Server was lovely and came by frequently.
Good balance of veggie options in the menu, beer options were well thought out. Kudos.
There’s only positivity radiating from this place! The service from the hostess to servers were warm, friendly and pleasant. The menu selection catered to many including a vegetarian menu - all of which changes seasonally! Cocktails and wine were divine! And as a bonus - the desserts were top of the line! Truly an incredible experience - a diamond location.
Excellent patio for a yummy brunch!
Great food and service. The patio is nice to dine on. The lunch menu is small and pricey. It cost us over $80 for two plates, one juice and one drink including tax and tip.
Great food and ambiance. Service a bit slow, but that seems to be the new normal. Overall a great experience.
Absolute gem. I’m from Toronto, and was visiting Hamilton and this one was a pleasant surprise. Very nice service, and amazing food. I had the carbonara and my friend had a bowl. Carbonara was not the most traditional, but certainly a good dish nonetheless. Amazing. Highly Recommend.
Extremely well cooked meals. Arguably best brunch in city.
DELISH! My family had very delicious take out from here. Pricing is a little higher than a keg or milestone but definitely worth it. The only underwhelming part of the meal was the sticky toffee dessert but the rest of the meal made up for it. Would definitely like to eat inside the restaurant soon.
It was excellent. Food is so tasty there. It was a windy night so probably hard to keep the food super hot going out to the patio. Erin was super. Always there for us. So great on a hot summers night on the patio getting served. Just lovely.
Brunch here was amazing
Nice atmosphere and quite good food. Was not a fan of the gnocchi app. The bass was very nice
Our first restaurant experience with friends in FOREVER! I was there with 4 other people, all people who have worked in restaurants, all a little rowdy. The server handled us beautifully. He had smart, accurate recommendations even when the guys were appalled by the lack of scallops on our visit 🙄.
The food was amazing and we enjoyed every course! Apps were plentiful, and flavourful, mains were amazing snd dessert was mouthwatering!
Thanks for putting up with our first night out in a year and a half ❤️
Great food and atmosphere. Friendly staff. A bit pricey for what you get, but I'd return for sure.
Vegetarian Brunch at Aberdeen was nice. The warm cheese scone was freshly baked soft & chewy. The toastada Rancheros has an option of salad or home fries. Bottom less coffee is totally my style. Thanks
Celebrating a birthday but guest of honour wasn't up to the heat on patio, so restaurant graciously switched to seat us inside. Food and service excellent as always and Covid-19 precautions in place. Wonderful day!
Firstly, I want to say this place was good before the pandemic. I had dined previously and enjoyed it. This time I went for a birthday. I was surprised that there was a set menu 2 course with no other option and it was $$$$. That I accepted. Then the food came, small and overseasoned. The waitress tried her best but we ended up leaving and had a cake at home. Really disappointed. I understand that the pandemic has been hard on restaurants, but customers shouldn't have to pay for it all at once.
Good food, the roasted duck seemed a little undercooked, was very red. But it was very flavourful. Rissoto was good, the calamari was great as well. Cocktails are very unique. Friendly staff, although they seem to all pitch in to help with the tables so sometimes if we asked for something it wouldn't be passed onto the next staff member and got lost.
Nice decor. Good service. Food...meh. Fries rock hard. Corn ravioli good but watery. Burger burned and unseasoned. Meh
Had a lovely time here tonight, the food was great, the venison was cooked perfectly to my liking, good service, everything tasted great.
I always have a wonderful meal here. The food is always fresh and the service is great. One of my all time favourite restaurants.
Best salmon eggs Benny in the city and I’ve tried all that I’ve found
Servers were really nice, but the food was not worth it.
Always amazing always fresh. Great service everytime we've been there. Keep up the great work.
This is a solid breakfast spot. Not cheap but certainly worth it. Quality is incredible and the menu satisfies my brunch craving but with a much desired twist of ingenuity.
Service from the kitchen can be slow, both times I've been my waiter said the kitchen would be delayed. Other than that, this place is wonderful.
Easily one of the city’s best restaurants. Warm, friendly staff, great food, in the most beautiful setting.
This place is completely versatile. You can put on jeans and have a great meal with a pal, have a romantic dressed-up dinner, or host a wedding or private party upstairs in their function room.
The best seat in the house is the chef’s rail. It’s a four seat butcher block bar that overlooks the kitchen. Great for a dinner with some added entertainment. They also have most quiet and romantic tables within the restaurant. They can meet all your needs.
The patio in the summer is like a secret garden— easily one of the best in the city. Their menu is small but diverse, and every last item is delicious. They also accommodate well for veg and gluten free.
One of the best restaurants in Hamilton, the food is delicious, the staff are so nice and very helpful.
Awesome! Great food. Keaton is the best.
Very good. Staff was great
Great service great food would definitely recommend
Delicious delicious delicious! I got the cheesecake stuffed French toast and was blown away. I thought I was not going to be full after eating it because it looked kind of small in my eyes, but I was stuffed after. Patrick was our server and he was awesome! Super funny guy, personable, and was fast.
I’ve tried their other menu items and they are fantastic as well.
Parking is horrible though. Their parking lot is TINY! Be careful in there because it is so tight, making it easy to hit /rub against another car. Don’t get me wrong though, finding parking is worth the struggle the food is that good!
Great service and the wedge salad was amazing!Lamb was the special dish for Saturday, my bf loved it. The fusilli was a bit salty and home style but delicious.
Great service and really good food. Would recommend to anyone. A little on the pricey side but it's a great treat as the food and service is fantastic.
Delicious! Also, we felt very safe as the staff did a great job cleaning the tables around us.
A classy restaurant in Hamilton? Look no further and pinch yourself, because its true!
LOCATION
I joke, since Hamilton is known for its great food at dirt cheap prices. If you're looking for something fancier, Aberdeen Tavern is my go-to! I've taken my mom for her birthday the last two years and she loves it. The wood finish gives it a rustic vibe and the staff is always helpful and kind. I'd compare it to a Milestones in terms of high quality food, but that would be a disservice to the warm atmosphere and quaint feel.
EATS
I feel like I have the tastiest meal of my life every time I come here. Would definitely recommend anything braised, I've had beef and lamb meals for dinner and they've always been so juicy and tasty! They've reduced the menu size during the last year to account for covid, but it allows them to keep their high standard of food.
Always great service and food! The crab cakes are perfection.
Great value, beautiful space and wonderful service.
Lovely place! Have have lunch and brunch menu depending if you visit during weekends or weekdays!
Awesome restaurant! There are great drink selections and so many good meal options it can be difficult to pick. However you can rest assured that you will enjoy anything you choose.
Staff is very friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate.
I highly recommend this restaurant!
Excellent food, attentive and lovely staff. Thank you for checking the Covid passports.
One of our favorite restaurants to go for any special occasion. The best they accommodate our vegetarian needs. Can't wait to go back for dine in since we enjoy the ambience and service so much.
We were a group of fourteen and the size of the room was perfect. The food was spectacular and service was excellent. There are stairs to get to the room but there is a washroom on that level so if someone has mobility issues they only have to climb the stairs once. Overall a perfect venue for an intimate wedding.
Great service, inventive cocktails, great decor, and of course great food.
Nice ambience, really nice dinner
Great food and the service is top notch. Definitely recommend.
Our table of 7 loved this place. We had the bread and dip to start. The grilled bread was excellent and the hummus dip was great. I had the short rib grilled cheese and it was the best sandwich I'd had in a very long time. Side ceasar salad was good, but the sandwich stole the show. Others had the turkey club, fish and chips, shrimp tacos, and butternut squash ravioli. We all enjoyed all of the food. Our server was very friendly and very attentive (water glasses were always filled up quickly). Can't wait to return to this place.
We just had the most amazing experience at Aberdeen Tavern. The service was exceptional. The restaurant itself is decorated in a stylish, inviting manner. THE FOOD! Boyfriend had the braised rib (Thursday special) and it was unreal. I had the scallop risotto and if possible, I would like it to get me pregnant. Just delicious - we'll be back!
Excellent service and weekend brunch.
I felt everything comfortable. It's not super fancy menu but very satisfying.
I'm from out of the Hamilton area but have heard so many great things about this place and.. I was not disappointed. The patio was so comfortable and well-spaced during this time. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. A bit pricey, but a nice place that is good for a special occasion where you can dress up, get great food and be comfortable. Will be returning!
The food was spectacular. The beef didn't even need cutting it just fell apart on the fork. They took my celiac disease very seriously and I had no adverse reactions. The waitress was incredibly helpful and attentive.
Tried the Winter Fest menu tonight and the meal was excellent. Surprised how good this take out food was. Will becoming back again!
Delicious food and great ambiance.
Wellington beer and great food Hmmm. The staff are very pleasent and informative! I give 10/10
Best restaurant in Hamilton! This has been a staple for my husband and I since they opened! Amazing AMAZING food ! Great service staff and it’s in a great location !
Brunch food was low quality and very over priced. Breakfast sandwich wasn’t good at all
Erin was a very knowledgeable server. Caesar salad dressing was excellent. Prime Rib was very tender. Baco Noir was the perfect match with the Prime Rib
Had take-out. Food ready on time. Friendly wait staff. The salad, main, and dessert were all delicious. Worth every penny.
The food here is outstanding (better everytime I visit). The drinks (cocktails AND mocktails) are delicious. Great service. Pictured here is the Roast Chicken Supreme and bread with dips (avocado, olive tapinade, hummus and pork rillette).
Delightful. Made a reservation online (super easy system) to celebrate a special occasion. Food was great and service was top notch. Really made an intimate celebration during Covid enjoyable. Thank you!
It was a cold Sunday morning in Ancaster when my boyfriend, his sister and myself decide to go for brunch at Aberdeen Tavern. We called ahead because we assumed many people had the same idea as us. The host informed us that there was plenty of tables available. We arrived at a half empty restaurant and a host with little to no idea what was going on. She told us that the restaurant was fully booked with only space available at the bar. We agreed to sit at the bar even though there was over half the restaurant empty. We were greeted by the bartender who had a bit of an attitude during the entire brunch service. We he realised that I was not ordering alcohol or coffee seemed to be annoyed. My boyfriend’s coffee had grounds on the entire bottom of the cup, the bartender looked at the cup did not apologize, poured him another cup of coffee in a different cup. We shared the cherry chocolate scone which was fantastic, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The scone was served warm with tons of butter on the side. We were asked to move down the bar to accommodate other guests sitting beside us, even though half the restaurant was still empty. We sensed a bit of an attitude coming from our bartender when our water jug would be empty quite often throughout the service. He smacked the bottom of the jug and said, “ok once again” after the third time we drank the entire jug. I ordered the Tostada Rancheros which was great, lots of fresh flavours and a creamy lime sauce on top. The black beans were great and the wrap was crunchy. Unfortunately, the salad had basically no dressing on top which was kind of a downfall. My boyfriend had the cheesecake French toast which was delicious! I wish I ordered that instead. When it came down to paying the bill my boyfriend and I paid for our meal and his sister paid for herself. I tipped $5.00 in cash for a 36.00-dollar meal with tax. He gave me an awkward look and did not say thank you. He clearly wanted a bigger tip, but the service was not up to par. We left the Aberdeen Tavern after 1 hour of crappy service, good food, and a half empty fully booked restaurant.
Great brunch. It was a set menu and the meal was huge overall. Lots of nice drinks on the menu if you need some hair of the dog. Good coffee. Good service. 10/10
This was a really great experience dining out. Our server Dan was very knowledgeable and made a great wine suggestion. The kitchen was accommodating for my lactose allergy. I would highly recommend for an upscale pub experience.
Food was tasty and well presented but the service we received tonight was mediocre at best. I would expect a little more courtesy and attention to detail from the server if this restaurant wants to continue to represent itself as upper tier. Overall it was just an average experience and I won't be in a rush to head back in.
Great service and dish flavours!
Dinner tonight was nice on the patio. I enjoyed the crab cake & salmon. My husband had calamari with burger & fries. All very good....wine was good too! 👍
Awesome food and staff!
This place is one of the best places to eat in the city. Important fact, they clean the tables and chairs thoroughly between customers which makes the experience safe as well. Great food and great service.
Had the Mississippi Benny for brunch. It was great.
One of the best places to eat in Hamilton! I've come here for a brunch birthday and lunch after graduating, everything is absolutely delicious. The food is so creative and well seasoned and the ambiance is excellent. The staff are also amazing people, they are so accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. Perfect for date night or a special occasion. Please do yourself a favour and visit the Aberdeen Tavern!
Great good and atmosphere 👌
I've eaten here a few times now, it never disappoints. Great food, great service. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
Have eaten here a dozen times. Always great service. They speak very highly of their burger but it would be the thing to avoid. Much better things on the menu and far better burgers in Hamilton.
I have been for brunch and dinner, both are excellent, service is always great. It's a gorgeous building and the patio is lovely. Went to dinner during these covid times and everything is handled well, sanitizer as you enter and available on all tables etc spacing is done well.
The customer service is constantly rapid, fantastic vibes, friendly staff members. I will come back again when I arrive in town.
Everything was so good. We tried their Brunch and it was absolutely divine. The smoked salmon was one of the finest of its kind! The crab cake was not only instaworthy but everybite was packed with meat and decently spiced. Loved the egg Benedict and finished with cheesecake French toast. So happy to have found this place! Will definately come back for more :)))
I went with friends for lunch and everyone’s food was amazing! They have a great lunch deal (starter, entree and dessert) that will leave you full all day. The menu is unique, thoughtful and has everything that you want when you go out for a nice meal! The restaurant is in an old bank, so it has some cool touches and an awesome bar. The staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful!
Walked in w no reservations on a Sunday afternoon Family Day weekend. Nice table for 4. Good Relay coffee, breakfast items ordered incl Eggs Benny, omelettes, empanadas. Starter scones, jalapeno/cheese, made on site, delicious. Salads on the side of our mains - fresh ingredients, nice simple vinaigrette dressing. Bright clean dining room, free parking on weekends next door. Washrooms in basement not accessible although dining room easily accessible on street level.
Came here for a birthday recently. Overall, was a fairly good experience. The meatloaf was unfortunately not as good as expected (more of a mush than a loaf--though this could also be personal preference), however the customer service was wonderful and responded very well to this. Service was good throughout the evening and the potato gratin side option was actually very good and I would highly recommend trying it.
Great spot, food is awesome and well priced.
