We had a great time at Vons. First time there and pleasantly surprised. It's an old building but it's nice inside. It's cool how there are different areas and there is an upstairs, too. We loved all our food and I even enjoyed the oysters although I'm not usually into oysters. Great service and great food! A very good experience.

Portions are quite generous. Ordered the prime rib. Buck-a-shuck was good deal, make sure you order it in the lounge and not dining area (different price point, we didn't know but they honored it.) Our server Alan was very attentive, friendly and personable. As an out of town guest, Vons made us feel very welcomed. Will definitely come back next time we visit Edmonton!

Buck-a-shuck Oysters were flavourful and tasty. Ordered half a dozen of everything on the menu. Biggest drawback was the shells in the oyster. Would've been 5 stars if not for the shells. Would reccomend cycling through the oysters as you eat them. Brings out the flavor really nicely! The waiter did bring us two more oysters to make up for the shell fragmentation. Hope the chefs can get better at shucking. Top 3 oysters by rank 1. Kushi - really nice Umatilla flavourful with deep hints of ocean 2. Torpedo bay 3. Beausoleil Honorable mention. Pink moon -- at the time we went they were the biggest. Great service! Prime rib was cooked perfectly and even throughout! Liked the extra seasoning they put on the veggies. Complimented the demi glaze on the steak nicely.

Celebrated our anniversary here upon the recommendation of family. Very tasty food and beautiful presentation. The creme brulee was the best I've ever had! Our waitress was very attentive to ensure our drinks were topped up, and there was only a minimal wait for our meals. The only reason I did not give a full 5 stars was due to my steak arriving as medium rare instead of medium. Not a big issue, but a little bit redder than I prefer. A very enjoyable meal, and the extra effort to celebrate our anniversary was appreciated!

The service was great! The food was great and I loved the vibe of the restaurant. If you just want an evening out with some good food (without breaking the bank), then this is a great place! I had the New York Sirloin and my partner had the burger. The burger was suprisingly really good, juicy, flavorful, etc.

Had a staff event here for our Christmas Party. The service was very cheerful and accommodating. The food was really good quality and came out nicely presented. When a drink was not made up to standard the staff quickly had a new one made. I would definitely be back for future meals. The price reflects the high quality of the food and service.

Very nice place with elegant decor. Had some specials and they were all very delicious. Steak tart tart is my personal favourite. Thanks to the lovely server Thida’s suggestion. Steak was so tender and very well seasoned. Oysters was on special paired with a glass oh white for $25.00. Really good deal, even they are a little bit small, hey! $25 bucks they are amazing for $25!! Highly recommend this place for a friend gathering. Thanks to the owner, an very welcoming Indian lady, to bring great food to the city.

We had our Christmas party dinner at Von's. It was an absolutely amazing evening. The food and service was outstanding. We were checked in upon entry to ensure we were all fully vaccinated, it was quick and smooth, great job! Our server Alan and manager Taran made sure we understood the menu and took very good care of us. Their attention to our section was impeccable. 👏 Highly recommending this place for a big and small groups.

My boyfriend and I had a fabulous dinner experience at Vons last night! From service (Sanjay and I think maybe the owner? or manager? helping), to food - drinks, appetizers and dinner, to the atmosphere. All amazing! Special shout out the chefs that prepared it all! We left overstuffed and oversatisfied :) We will be back!

I don’t know why people are saying it is over priced for quality. You pay for the service, food, and atmosphere and it is a steal for what you get! I had an amazing night with exceptional service. Alan our server was top notch we couldn’t have asked for better service, the manager was super friendly and the bartender was very attentive. We had a superb time and will definitely be back!

Went to Von’s for a birthday dinner tonight. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in the restaurant. Had a filet mignon with truffle Mac and cheese. The fillet mignon was a well seasoned, perfectly cooked piece of perfection! The truffle Mac and cheese was indulgent. So good! Our party tried several different drinks. The smoked old fashioned was a clear winner. Would definitely recommend!

It was a little chilly but I got a heater for the table. The Prime Rib was some of the best I ever had! The meat was so succulent and juicy and it was seasoned perfectly. The Au jou that it came in was gorgeous, and they had a homemade horse radish that was sharp and spicy. My server, Louis, was extremely knowledgeable of the massive wine menu they have and recommended a full bodied Vallipolicella that paired brilliantly with the Prime Rib. A truly decadent experience I hope to enjoy again in the not-too-distant future!!!

My boyfriend and I had a Christmas Eve dinner last night here at Von's. We wanted oyster and steak so this was our choice. Our first time here and first time trying Albertan beef as we just moved here from Nova Scotia. The oysters were ok. We ordered 6 different kinds one for each of us. 2 of them were good the other 4 were just too salty but we chose the wrong ones, I guess. The horseradish is nice but the other red sauce was too ketchupey for me and another type of sauce would be nice like a wine vinaigrette sauce or something. I ordered the surf and turf and my boyfriend has a rib eye with truffle fries. They were cooked rare as we requested and the rib eye was so full of fat and great flavor!! The vegetables were fresh and nicely seasoned though I wasn't too fond of the Cajun seasoning. The truffle fries were great! The food was all great but pretty salty even for a salt lover like me. Maybe calm down on the salt especially the lobster tail on my surf and turf. Too salty. We also had a Caesar salad which was great with deep fried capers I think. Which were an awesome touch. Overall we had a great dinner and Sanjay provided great service!! We will be back! Thank you

Update: We went back and really glad we did. Every place has a bad day. They made up for it...big time! Our meal and service was right back to the standards and experience I knew and loved. Well done and thank you!! Original: I haven't been to Von's in years and always had great service and food - so it was a natural suggestion when a friend from out of town wanted some seafood & steak. I struggled to give it a 2 star rating. For $250 for 3, we had substandard service all the evening. Settings of side plates and cutlery for 2, the waiter poured the wine and then decanted the reasoning 3.5 ounces, 2 of our steaks and veggies were stone cold, but the waiter only offer to replace the lady's steak and didn't bring back half of her lobster. The comedy or errors abounds. No apology or discount. Nothing. Admittedly, I'm embarrassed to have suggested it.

Pretty disappointed, not worth the cost. Highlights 👍🏽 Welcome staff was super helpful and accommodating. They had heat issues so had converted their banquet room for dining and gave our group comfort options. Once the food was ordered it came out hot timely. Steak Oscar, prime rib and sides was reported to be very good - steak quality was ok. Bacon wrapped scallops were excellent. Low lights 👎🏽 Service was mediocre at best. Slow to get drinks, unable/willing to make recommendations, could not/would not explain what oysters were on the plates, never came back to the table after food was delivered and we were not able to bring forward the quality issues or questions we encountered. $ Cost - much higher quality expectations for the menu prices 4 Steaks ordered and mostly cooked per order however one underdone and the server never returned for that to be addressed. Cauliflower appetizer was priced well but heavily breaded and fried The salmon dish was the biggest disappointment … it was cooked beautifully but tasteless except for the tomato confit. The bean ragout and entire dish was terrible because it was swimming in a broken butter sauce. Butter and oil only with a bit of curry. The spinach and fish was tasteless and this dish was a fail. Had the server returned or noticed what was left on my plate I could have addressed the need for salt, pepper and citrus to improve it. The service was the biggest gap that could have saved this experience for me to return again. If you have Oyster Bar in your name I would expect service to be able to speak to it even if the don’t eat it. To be fair, we did not raise our concerns directly as we were already finished so when our server requested that we complete a google review I decided to share. If I ever return, it will only be for oysters in the lounge as we had had good experiences there in the past.

Went to friend’s wedding during COVID(everyone got the test result before they go), the set up was nice, the server was good. The portion was huge, don’t even think to finish them if you are girl. Nice place to go if you are dating with someone you care about.

We recently went to Vons and tried oysters for the first time ever! They had such a great selection and they were all so fresh and tasted amazing! Our server Allan was so entertaining, and made the evening with my parent so special. Highly recommend eating here!

Went to vons to celebrate by 10 anverssery. The welcoming staff was sweet and accommodating. Even Bartender visited our table to chat about drinks .The flower infused gin was really smooth . It was my wife's birthday and she really enjoys Von's. It was imperative we went there. This was a big day and it had to be as perfect as possible. However, covid was doing it's part to ruin the day. I booked a reservation, patios only, and in mid April you don't know what the weather is going to do. We arrived and were greeted with smiles and friendliness and escorted to the patio where there were partially enclosed gazebos with heaters in them set up. PERFECT!!! Out of the elements but still following rules. The outdoor table was set so elegeantly! The staff were delightful! Friendly, attentive, just enough, for a wonderful evening. The service was impeccable! The food was perfectly prepare and delicious! Hot, even under these conditions. The owner made a point of visiting our table as well as the other guests. A complimentary drink for us on this occasion, was a very nice touch. Go here if you want to be treated right!! It was a perfect night and a super way to start a new decade!! Thank you to all at Von's!! You are the best!!!

My husband and I enjoyed a dinner on Saturday there. My husband had the Pasta and loved it, and I had the steak. We were very pleased with our meal and even the dessert which was Creme Brulee ( loved it). Our waiter Alan even had time to have a conversation about food and how to make Creme Brulee at home . The food was amazing: wagyu carpaccio, escargot, the soup du jour, creme brulee, and chocolate mousse cake. It was a girls night out and we shared the applies family style. Will definitely be going back. The menu has a wonderful selection. If you like seafood, Von's is the place to go. Love that the Chef came over to our table on multiple occasions to check in on us and make sure we were enjoying the food. The creme brulee is absolutely perfect. Crisp, light, and absolutely delicious!

I previously gave Vons 5 stars 6 months ago. Yesterday I was excited to experience Vons with my significant other for my birthday. The service has definitely changed within the past 6 months. They were out of everything we wanted. I get that sometimes you run out of the dollar oysters, but it was more than that. They also didn't have a few drinks on the menu. We really just went there for Sunday dollar oysters. We ended up getting a few oysters because someone else didn't want it. It took 45 minutes to serve the oysters. On top of that I wanted more sauce. The server gave us a dirty bowl, which had sauce caked on from previous use. There was also a mix up with the drinks...which took 20 minutes to get. The appetizer was the escargot. It was delicious. But that took almost an hour to get. We also ordered the oscar steak. It came with a 6oz steak, scallops, shrimp, crab meat, mash potatoes, vegetables and a cream sauce. I believe the manager came and served us our main dish. There wasn't much of an introduction. He didn't apologize for the many hiccups we endured. I just felt that he didn't care about the quality of service. Trust me when I say that there were many moments when we wanted to leave, but we were starving and nothing else was open anymore. Although the food is amazing there, it is obvious that Vons needs to step up their game starting with their service. Our server did try her best, but I think she was so flustered with what was happening that she kept screwing up. I believe it all starts with management.

Service: Came here on a Sunday evening and it took a little while for us to get seated. We were standing at the door for a good 5-10 minutes before we even saw anyone. After we were seated thou everything was fine. Our server was very friendly and we were very well taken care of. Waters and drinks were always full and we were given a good amount of attention. Atmosphere: The dining room was very nice, very intimate cozy setting. We were going to be seated closer to the door but we asked to sit farther in which I'm really glad we did because it was a lot more quite and good for conversations. The decor was very elegant and the place is well maintained. Food: Food was fairly good. The Elk special I was told would be cooked to a med rare but came out more on the rare side but that was ok with me. I really enjoyed how the Brussel sprouts were done and there was a lot of good flavors. The key lime pie thou was a little bit of a disappointment as it wasn't as tart or tangy as I would expect from a key lime desert.

An amazing meal at Vons. The staff were friendly, the executive chef came out to say hi and to check on our meal. They kitchen mixed up one of the sides, which was okay after confirming it met our dietary needs. The steaks were done to perfection. We ordered the bacon scallops starter, which was good. Maybe a little over done. But the shrimp and scallops skewer topper I had was cooked perfectly. The seasoning on the veg and potatoes was so tasty for both our meals. Especially the peppercorn gravy. But the star was definitely the New York striploins. Delicious! My only other critique is that they can maybe work on plating of the steak to make the meal a little more visual.

We've been living outside of Edmonton for the past 4 years. Before we moved, Von's was our favorite restaurant. We were excited to revisit it for a celebratory dinner last week, but quickly realized things have changed. The buck a shuck oysters were much smaller than before and the Cocktails weren't made with the same care as we remembered (maple bacon garnish just thrown in my Caesar). I ordered a ribeye steak medium rare and received it just under rare with tons of fat that hadn't cooked properly. Vegetables were overcooked and the skewer of seafood I added was tiny and overcooked. Overall, the standards just aren't what they used to be. Had to send dessert back as beneath the sugar crust, the creme brulee was runny. I've definitely had much better meals at the $300 price point...we're sad that we have to adjust our list of favorite places to dine now that we back living in Edmonton again.

I've gone multiple times for buck-a-shuck on Sundays and it has always been a good experience. Unfortunately on our most recent visit the price had gone up to $1.50-a-shuck, but it's still worth it. Bacon wrapped scallops and fresh mussels are also really good.

Walked in tonight to celebrate my husband's new job and we were seated at the bar as it was very busy. The service was absolutely exceptional! It was our first time having steak since finding out I'm pregnant and the waitress Rebecca was very knowledgeable on what to recommend for that. We even got a free dessert. Best service ever! If, like me, you are stranded in Edmonton; Consider Vons! Food, atmosphere, music, and staff are all a win. That being said it is a steakhouse, so may not be something a vegetarian would appreciate (they do have vegetarian options). Great for game night brawls with a touch of sophistication 😜. The Oysters are shucked slightly better now, less shards and the selection and quality has greatly improved. Sad to see "buck a shuck" go, but what can you do? Bookmark Vons, it's a gem.

We had a nice dinner with my friends earlier, it is totally different from the reviews that I normally red for the past days. Their food is tasty and I admit I liked their dessert. Staffs are attentive to us because most probably there are few guest so we are served perfectly. Special thanks to Sanny for being so friendly and making our food nicely done. Salads were really tasty, food was served quickly and a nice spot with a good ambiance of restaubar. Worth the money that we paid, than other expensive steak house in town.

CV19 lock-down subsiding, we wanted a Valentines Day in a new place and Vons was a decent choice with very good food and lovely service. During service we had a minor complaint and it was taken care of immediately with two fresh plates that were done to perfection. We had seafood and I started with a dozen oysters that were fantastic - seafood in Edmonton is often a toss up, but they did it well here. The casual atmosphere lends itself to a both a business dinner and casual group, I'd feel comfortable in a suit or as dressed yesterday in jeans and dinner jacket. The configuration seems currently controlled by the need for distancing, and both my wife and I felt comfortable with Vons service protections. Thanks to the serving staff and Mido for making it memorable and especially ensuring it was done right! Going to try the Tomahawk next time!

Amazing restaurant. Fast service. Good is so good. The manager is very helpful and accommodating. I highly recommended for anyone looking for a night out. Th steak and shrimp was amazing, mix of flavors are great and done to perfection. Desert was so delicious. I’ll give them 11 out of 10 for food and service.

This place is great. I had oysters, carpaccio and the surf and turf and lava cake. Honestly, everything was amazing. Steak was perfectly cooked and one of the best Ive had in my life. Anand, our server, was great. He kept our drinks topped up and was friendly and attentive. This is the second time Ive been here and it was a great experience again. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back when I visit Edmonton.

Like it always has been, this is still one of the best prime ribs in town. Cooked to quite the tenderness that most will enjoy. Portions are generous with a good assortment of sides. During our COVID-19 visit, their Sunday also featured buck-a-shuck oysters. For those special occasions, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Now, having had some of the best prime rib elsewhere, there are a few things they could improve on. The Yorkshire pudding needs to be much more fluffy and tender; it gets hard and dry very quickly. The restaurant is missing a good opportunity to use this item as an attraction. Another thing is their mushroom peppercorn sauce; I would recommend skipping it because it becomes jelly like so quickly in its plastic bowl. Lastly, to finish off on a good note, their mashed potatoes are fantastic. While I would definitely come back again (which I have many times), I wish that they would improve a little on the items I noted. I most come here only for their prime rib and oysters.

We ordered the oysters and tuna tartare, it was very good. For our mains we ordered surf and turf and Oscar. The one steak was over done and they generously remade the entire plate and our server Rebecca was really nice and great with everything. Mido who was manager provided exceptional service and was very polite about the situation. We loved our experience and will be coming back!!

Very Pricey, the entrance has an interesting smell.... fishy.... but the food is delicious, portions are good, nice atmosphere etc good service. Not much else to say, the prime rib with the Yorkshire pudding looks really good in the review with the picture even though I haven’t had it

It was our first time here. Have been to couple steak houses but this one by far the BEST one!! The staff were amazing, especially Thida. She was such a very nice and polite lady to us. Everything was perfect from appetizer to the main meals. Will definitely come back again.

Fantastic evening!! Though it wasn't on the menu. The management and chef accommodated our request for wagyu steak and a seafood platter. And...surprising very reasonably priced. It was as amazing as it looks in the photo I shared. I would honestly have given them 6 Stars...if it were possible.

Had a wonderful time here for an anniversary dinner. Our waitress was highly attentive, food was delicious (especially the mushroom bake Neptune) all the way through, and we were treated with a complimentary dessert to cap off our special night. Highly recommend!

We ordered take out on their website for a special occasion dinner and had to wait ~40min past the promised time before the food was ready. There were lots of patrons smoking right outside the door which made the waiting unpleasent. Please adjust the pick up times on your website to reflect the true time. We would have gladly showed up later to pick up the order. We ordered the prime rib dinner which was good but the Yorkshire puddings were dry. We also ordered a salad with no dairy but there was feta cheese sprinkled on it. More gravy would also be nice since we paid extra for it.

My husband really enjoyed his meal- steak cooked exactly how he liked it (med-well) and the sides were great. My steak came out med-well instead of rare, but they quickly re did the steak. I feel like the steak was over done because it was super thin- not what I expected in a NY Strip, and a thin steak is really easy to overcook. Our waiter was excellent in handling the issue, and overall service was excellent, and the decor was good. I just wish the quality of the meat was higher, especially for the price paid.

I got the surf and turf which came with steak and lobster! Original plan was to go for the buck-a-shuck, but poor planning on me regarding the times for said special. Otherwise, the potato balls (?) were scrumptious! In the past we had excellent experiences at Vons. In comparison our most recent visit was disappointing. Service was neglectful. At least twice members of our party had to go in search of our waiter for small items - drinks that had not arrived at the table; another bottle of wine. There was a significant gap between service of the first appetizer and the others. The prime rib was impressive. The ribeye steak a touch too salty. And one of the orders was wrong. I believe the problem was inexperience and not incompetency... we'll likely return but it'll be a little while.

The food is overall good. My bf and I ordered our food,our oysters came first then we decided to leave the restuarant because we wanted to smoke our g pen. As we were leaving the door, a girl host greeted us goodbye, but then told her we were coming back. We came back in, all the staff seemed like they were really relieved to see me and my boyfriend that we came back. I saw one of the supervisors rubbing our server's back to comfort her about us coming back and not doing 'dine and dash'. And all the staff were crowding in the front looked at both of us. We went back to our table and the girl host came to our table and asked us if we had a reservation today.. I found that really odd as she should know because she was the one that called me to confirm my reservation and greeted me and checked off my name on the list. Therefore she asked for my name and time, as in she was going to put a note under my name saying I was attempting a 'dine and dash'. They should not have assumptions about us doing the "dine and dash* so quickly.. My boyfriend and I wore semi formal. I was displeased on how they thought about us. I know there could be people who will do 'dine and dash' but not this type of restaurant I wouldn't think people will attempt to do it.. Overall I'm still disappointed.

This classic steakhouse is consistently satisfying. A group of us went for a team dinner , and we were impressed with quality of the food. We sat in the dining room our server Chris was attentive but not over bearing and let us enjoy our time there. We found out they have private rooms for larger groups, and we will most likely make this our birthday spot from now on. :D

Room, beautiful. Staff, helpful, friendly and polite. We both had steak, it tasted fantastic and was the perfect temp. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the sides really feel like they're after thoughts, not creative and no real attention paid. I know I know, it's a steak house, but for the price I feel that more care and attention is to be expected and it fell flat for us. Would also mention that the first round of bread was quite stale. Must add that it is a nice romantic place to take a date, ask for a spot next to the fire place.

Although I enjoyed our dinner, it wasn't up to the usual standards that I have come to know at this restaurant. The music was a little too loud although we enjoyed the songs that were playing, there was a bright light shining in my eyes from the serving station, and our waitress was not very attentive waiting until our meal was half gone before coming to check on us. She did not fill up empty water glasses (had to ask her twice). Had the filet mignon and it was a little tough compared to last time. Perhaps they were a little low on quality cuts being we were there a couple days after busy Valentine's Day. Might go back but only based on previous experience (had this been our first visit, we wouldn't).

Great atmosphere, excellent service, and the best meal I've had in a long while Edit: I came back a second time and am now removing a star for this review. The food was still good, but my $50 steak was not as good as expected - it had quite a bit of gristle. I would expect a nicer cut of meat for such a price. Also the waitress forgot about us for the first 20 or 30 minutes that we were there. The food was definitely tasty, but for this second visit, it was not worth the price.

Went here recently for a nice dinner. The appetizers were delicious, the drinks were good, and the steak was ok. Didn't seem like anything special. One person in our group had to return the steak because it was WAY over cooked. It took up to 30 minutes to get our drinks. We had to ask for enough cutlery and steak knives. We weren't very impressed considering the price you pay for dining here.

Was here recently for a staff Christmas Party. The food was great the room was a bit tight for everyone but we made it work. I only have two minor points: 1, You differently need to staff better for large groups. We only had one server for close to 40 people and it took a very long time to get drinks and food to everyone. She was working as hard as she could and did a great job but she needed help. 2, Your washrooms are like a sauna, everyone was talking about how hot it was. I have to agree it was very warm in the washrooms. Other then the two minor details the food and drinks was really great and I will definitely be back for a dinner.

This was my 4th time dining here. The service was decent although there was quite the wait in between drinks (bonus: didn't have a bigger bill which would've meant a bigger tip) we were there for a celebration so that was annoying. The best part was the food. The cooks did a stellar job of preparing my filet to perfection. The mushroom risotto was a revelation and I was very impressed with both the oscar add on and the lobster tail (all was cooked perfect). The cost is slightly higher than the Keg but you get the amazing selection of Oysters so that is a bigger pull for me

Went to Von's tonight for our wedding anniversary. Fortunately it was relatively quiet, which meant our food came out very promptly. Chris was a great server, apologized for bread coming out late, which we didn't really mind. Our steaks and veggies and sides were good. A little bit pricy in my opinion, but good quality food. Mac and cheese didn't have a lot of cheese flavour to it I found, but my ribeye was nice as were the veggies. Truffle fries were nice.

The service was wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable and Allan the manager even came to check on us after our dinner. Oysters were fresh and delicious as usual but we never had the prime rib sliders and steak bites until last night. The sliders were a very nice surprise. Prime rib meat was tender and delicious with the brioche bun and crispy onions. The steak bites OMG I can't stop telling everyone how amazing they were. Tender morsels of sirloin that must have been marinated because they had a subtle Japanese flavor. They literally melted in your mouth like butter. Went really good with the Cabernet/Merlot blend we had to go with it. A must try!!! We can't wait to go back.

It was a special place for us. In the past the food was always fantastic, the staff as a whole was experienced and professional, and the ambiance was simply perfect. On our last visit to the lounge, we were greeted with a discombobulated coat service; Green Day, Counting Crows, and Pearl Jam for our soundtrack, and service that lacked any experience or timeliness. Von's what happened the the low lit, Jazz inspired, top tier restaurant you once were. Disappointed.

This is one of my favorite steakhouses in Edmonton. The food is always amazing! Bacon wrapped scallops are great, the baked oysters are delish, and the drinks are great too! My favorite main is the Goat cheese filet mignon and it is Mmm-mmmm! It's a bit of a crime but we actually ordered take out yesterday for a stay at home date night and even that was fantastic - just make sure you write in the comments how you want your steak done otherwise it will be medium-well. ;)

Great atmosphere, food, and service. Went in for a buck a shuk special on oysters. They seemed short-handed and it took a while for the order to arrive, but wasn't too bad. At the end they gave us a desert free of charge because of the wait, which was nice of them. Prices on all other food on menu were on the higher end, but everything came out delicious.

It's not always easy to impress a group of 50 foodies but Vons did just that! We had the pleasure of sitting at the top of Vons with 50 of our closest friends and family for a special evening. It was a consensus between all that Vons was the place to have any party, celebrate a special occasion, or simply an excuse to eat some good food! The set menu was absolutely delicious; there was not one person in the room who didn't devour there plate. The BEST steakhouse Edmonton has to offer for sure! I love this place! But after last nights questionable food... I find it a little hard to maintain the five stars that had gotten earlier. This is now the second time we've eaten there with mixed results. Gone is the waitress we normally had who was possibly one of the best servers we had ever had. The young lady who took care of this last night was more than adequate however. Our visit before the service was absolutely horrible. And the food not bad this time four of us spending over $400 at the table most of us ordered steaks I had to fillet that had connective tissue in it and was tough as nails this is not a fillet... to the restaurants credit it did refund my meal but everybody else is steaks were average which is odd forSteakhouse.

I would love to give Von’s a five star review. We had a wonderful dinner that was exactly what we wanted. The food was very well prepared and tasted wonderful. The service was great and welcoming. The atmosphere in the dining room was warm and comfortable. The loss of the star come from having to walk through the lounge to visit the rest room and having to endure the song Energy by Drake, (just google the lyrics) this music has no place is a public dining establishment. I did bring it up to the manager and he did apologize but a server stepped in and told me they do not have control over the play list. That did put a bad ending on the experience and I hope they can fix the music for future guests.

Oysters here are absolutely Fantastic, it doesn't matter if it a one dollar or a two dollar or a three dollar, they are fresh. I love both east and west. We had 4 dozens oysters. Lamb is great too. They don't have a big selection of tap beer but it doesn't matter. Five star!

Went to VONS few times recently and every time was great. Prime ribs is the must try on the menu, Lychee Margarita is my girl’s favorite cocktail. I made a last min reservation for this place not knowing what to expect. I took my friend to dinner and when we got there our table was ready right away we were sat infront of the fireplace in dim light it was perfect. Wile we prdering we wanted wine but were unsure and our server helped us out with a great choice. We recieved our starter with a cocktail then our meal came shortly after with the wine. Our server checked on us about twice witch was perfect and we were left to our selves to enjoy our dinner and conversation without being bothered. The atmosfear, the food the service and the company was perfect.

For drinks I had a peach sangria which was delicious (highly recommend actually), and a double mojito, also very good and full of mint! My boyfriend and I shared oysters: 2 each of the 3 different kinds. I'm not experienced with oysters at all, but I must say the one with the lighter-colored shell was definitely the best out of all of them.. significantly better. I unfortunately I can't recall the name but I do know it was a West Cost Oyster. This was surprising because normally Eastern Oysters are better. For main, I had a 10oz prime rib, medium rare, with steamed veggies. The meat was a nice thick juicy slice. Excellent. I'd say they beat out all other mainstream stakehouse competitors. I wished it was warmer though (or at least the gravy to be) but both were on the medium cold side. My boyfriend had a steak, and unfortunately it was on the chewy side. It had a nice charred taste, but the meat was borderline enjoyable. A one-off odd cut, perhaps? Unfortunately I think this was enough to cost them at least half a star (I would've rated 4.5 if I had the option). Although Von's might not be the first place that comes to mind when I crave a heavy meat dish, I will say they are worth a try and a nice venue for an intimate night or with friends.

Had a fantastic night here with a couple friends. The Caesars were tasty and the fresh oysters were delicious! We tried the creme brulee for dessert and it was the best I have had. Props to our server Sabrina, she was very knowledgable, fun and outgoing adding on to the great evening. The food and service here were amazing. The steak was so tender and juicy, I dont think I've ever had a steak that tasted so good. Our server was extremely polite and fast accommodating us with every request and constantly checking to make sure everything was good. It's a steakhouse. Don't come here if you're on a budget or not willing to spend money good food. I do not reccomend the bacon ceasar though , to me it just tasted like slightly flavoured water and I don't know what the flavour was, not very good at all. The shrimp ceasar on the other hand, was quite good.

I don't understand the people complaining about price and parking. It's not McDonalds. I'm a broke college student and don't mind spending extra to dine here once in a while. I was surprised and impressed initially at the portion sizes, they leave you full but not exploding. I hate going to Boston pizza's for example, getting a $12 plate that can only be finished over 3 days; you won't be getting doggy bags here. Von's is one of the classiest restaurants in Edmonton. I've been there with my boyfriend several times and it is our favorite by far. We always get excellent service, the staff are very knowledgeable and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs, they are enthusiastic about the food and are ready to point out their own favorites. Expect to order a 3 or more course meal. And don't expect to get in on a holiday without a reservation.

I gave this experience a 3 but would have realistically been a 2.5 if there were half stars. We have been to Vons on several occasions. We have had great experiences and ok ones. This last one however was bad on many notes. We started off by being offered bread that never came. Ordered a bottle of what the waitress told us was a popular bottle only to be told they were out of it. It's a not so busy Thursday evening just to qualify the environment so being out of a popular wine was quite a disappointment. So we ordered bacon ceasars which were quite good. We ordered all of our courses all at once. Oysters. Tuna tartar. Venison carpaccio. Then our mains. My wife had the goat cheese filet and I had the cowboy steak. Let's start with the oysters. They were good but had to ask for lemon and horseradish that typically comes with it by default here. Now to the appies. Venison carpaccio was delicious although the shaved padano was no where to be seen on the dish. The tuna tartar was different. Probably because it was beef tartar and not the tuna we had ordered. The server did apologize for the error and the manager did come to the table and offer free desserts or drinks. We turned both down and just asked that the unfinished mistake be removed from the bill. He did do that as well as pay for a round of our drinks. Now the mains. Fingerling potatoes...should not be finished in a deep fryer and if they are you should probably clean the basket of the french fries that were previously cooked in it. My wife's steak was cooked to perfection as were her veggies. My ribeye however was over done. Flavour was good but overdone. Mybasparagus were borderline raw and the woody section at the base could have been trimmed better. All in all not a great experience by any means. And the music emanating from the kitchen blending in with the dining room tunes was not a good final touch. I cannot see us returning.

Had food poisoning from the oysters. Started vomiting 2hrs after my meal and the torrent started from both ends after. The whole ordeal lasted 36hrs. I understand there's a waiver etc about uncooked food but I've eaten oysters in a ton of places and never had that issue. Serving old seafood likely not a great idea to keep your clientele. Might just be unlucky but it is the last time I'm eating there. Goodsteak however.

I booked my husband 40th supper party. We had a party of 15 and they accomadated us in a private room. We decided to try out there famous osters. They were to die for. As for our waitress Kirsten , she kept the drinks coming and was very attentive to our needs she knew her osters and explained it all to us. She gave us the best service possible. Then the main course came my husband being a former chef ordered the lamb and most others ordered steak. All on pare and amazing. We have never been to the restaurtant and it was on my list to go to. We will be back and I see why its been around for years.

I had a wonderful experience at Vons, the server was polite, friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour! I wish I remembered her name. The white sangria was fantastic, loved the bacon wrapped scallops which was the highlight for me. Only disappointment and reason for a 4 star was the steaks (New York Striploin and Rib Eye) the cook was to our liking however were really lacking in flavour other then the over powering char taste, which I normally like. I also didn't like that no fresh ground pepper was offered, then I asked for salt and pepper as it's not provided on the tables and was brought plain salt and pepper shakers that would be suitable for a Denny's or Tony Roma's. Not what you would expect for the high prices. We finished off the night witg tiramisu which was amazing!

Vons has a few menu items not easily found in the capital city, notably oysters, which are on a buck a shuck special Monday to Friday from 4:30-6:30pm and all day Sunday! I've only been to Von's on Sunday evenings with colleagues for "Buck a Shuck" night. YUM!! We're going tonight too. Choose from a handful of different oysters from different regions for $1. You order a minimum 6 at a time. I'm a big eater and started to slow down after only about $25 oysters. They're more filling than you'd think! The lounge area is dimly lit, clean and has a fine dining feel to it. The servers are highly knowledgeable and always sweet and enthusiastic about the oysters, which makes newbies more comfortable when trying out a shucking experience for the first time. On oyster night, be sure to order the tray of various sauces. SO GOOD. The oysters do come with a side of horseradish and a couple different Tabasco flavors, but the sauces on the side....just do it. Worth it. The drinks are pricier, but come premium and to specification. You MUST order the caesar oyster shot - a shot with some clam AND an oyster. Shoot it back, chew it up. mmmmmmmmmm On our last visit, our friend ordered the Steak Tartar. At something like $18, it was very pricy for an appetizer, but after tasting it for myself, I can't wait to order it tonight. It's about a cup's worth of Fresh, cool raw beef chopped with onions and herbs and served with crunchy bread crackers plated favorably. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Von's is definitely a go-to for something fancier, excellent for a date night, after-work get together with friends and perfect if you want to step away from pizza joints or sushi bars for a more interesting alternative to dinner.

This used to be a solid date night spot for us, but it seems like the service standard has slipped a bit from what it once was (last server we had here was actually a manager, you'd think he would have been on point, but that wasn't the case), and the quality of the product on the plate is less than what I expect at this price point. I came here with my spouse for the first time yesterday for my birthday. We had a few drinks (I had two red sangrias and he had a pint of sapporo). I ordered the 6oz filet with red skin mashed potatoes and added an order of asparagus; he ordered the 10oz prime rib with veggies. My filet was dry - something which has never happened to me before, and I'm not a food connoisseur. It 'flaked' when I cut it with my knife, which was weird and a shame because the seasoning was great. My sides were delicious and I was impressed by how much asparagus I got. My spouse's food was great as well. I voted 3 stars because my steak was expensive and disappointing... however my spouse's meal was nice and I did really enjoy my side dishes. I might come back but wouldn't try the filet again.

Disclaimer: this review is for the **many** times hunnybunny and I have gone to Von's for the Buck-a-Shuck oyster special. While we've had oysters together over the years, our love affair with oysters really blossomed in Luderitz, Namibia, in the "dining room" of the Bay View Hotel, where we shared plate after plate of the fresh local ocean flowers with a team of Peace Corps volunteers one summer afternoon. Since then we've sampled all varieties of oysters as we travel. So it was with some joy that I heard about Von's, the long history it's had in the lives of the Edmontonians I know, and their oyster special. Time and again we've spent an early evening at Von's, downing oysters of all the species on offer, reminiscing of sunsets and seafood gone by. Go, enjoy, and if there's any per-person limit on oysters, consider partaking in the meats that I've heard are available. I just haven't gotten around to them (yet).

I go on a regular basis, only once my steak was over cooked and not by much. It was taken away and exchanged immediately. I have just about every item on the menu and nothing I wouldn't eat again. The only negative I have to say is that the deserts change to often. Which is great unless you have a craving for that one they've changed. Like the smoked apple pie.
