One of my favourite restaurants in Calgary. Always perfect for any occasion and atmosphere is always vibrant but cozy. Love coming here for birthdays! The food is DELICIOUS with great portions for sharing. Can get booked up very very quickly so book well ahead of time. Staff are friendly and attentive. Would always recommend!

Had an amazing Dinner last night for my sister birthday. We got the Bistecca, Caprese, The feature Nduja pasta with zucchini, tiramisu and lemon drops 😍 The Steak was beautiful and melted in your mouth and the caprese was super fresh and light tasting with a pistachio pesto that rocked, the pasta was really nice and had a bit of a kick. Everything tasted so good and perfect portions. The waiter was also very lovely, he was able to guide the whole meal for us super well and answers our questions before we even needed to ask them. Can’t believe I waited so long to have a meal here ❤️

The Pappaedelle and Gnocchi were the bomb, make sure you get them if you're ever here. The stake is quite good too, salad on the other hand is too salty and oily. But overall, it's quite good, family style Italian restaurant. Come here if you're ever in Calgary!!

I haven't been here for almost 6 years due to how far I lived from here. It was honestly worth the trip there. Just like what I remembered their food proportions are always big as they're meant for sharing. The chefs here taste test everything except for proteins before it gets to your table so the food coming out is made to restaurant standards.

I always order the same thing here. Can’t go wrong with the tagliatelle and the bistecca. They are usually quite busy in the evenings so best to make reservations.

We went to Mercato for my husband's birthday and the service and atmosphere were incredible. Our server was so friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the open kitchen and being able to watch our food cook. We got the tagliatelle pasta and the bistecca and were blown away by both dishes. It was quite pricey so I don't think we would be back regularly but we will definitely be back for future special occasions as we had a lovely experience overall. Highly recommend!

Absolutely stellar location for a meal. I highly recommend the Bistecca and the Carrot Cake, though everything else I've had here has also been excellent. Price is certainly high, but well worth it.

A very good restaurant, usually crowded. Food quality is great, beverages are regular. Waitress are polite, yet when it's crowded they may forget your order, or you may expect delays.

Our experience at Mercato was just fine. My girlfriend and I went for our anniversary with full expectation of having a 'fancy night out', after reading what felt like hundreds of 5 star reviews saying how incredible this place is. Overall the caprese salad was delicious, but the pastas we had were just okay. As far as the atmosphere, we were put at a table for two that felt cramped between the bar and multiple tables for four. I can't imagine a scenario where we would go back.

Mercato is phenomenal. We highly recommend the caprese salad (pictured below). It comes with arugula, pesto, tomatoes, yellow beets, fresh Italian mozzarella with exceptional salt that brings out the flavour. We keep going back for this salad. We tried the tomatoe sauce fettuccine which is their staple item- it sounds boring but it was my other favourite item I’ve tried there. The manager is so lovely, dealt with a spill we had and was so sweet and accommodating. We sat at the bar recently and had a lovely server, and got to watch the kitchen prepare the food. It was a lovely experience. Will continue to return. I included a second picture of our patio Mercato experience. Phenomenal!

Authentic italian restaurant experience. Friendly hostess, awesome fun italian waiter, amazing food. Burrata is as good as in Apulia. Tagliattela was also superb. The gnocchi was too salty. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Calgary

So so. No offense, of 3 pastas, 1 was overcooked, another lacked flavour and the third was somewhere in between. Open concept is nice but the food did not deliver this time for me. I did also have a piece of steak that wasn't bad.

We came here this summer and we were placed in the patio without sunshade! some other tables complained and simply the staff said we don't have enough shade! They were short staffed and every time another person was taking over our table! To sum up the food and service did not worth the price!

Food was delicious though the steak was a tad over the medium rare we requested. The clams are always to die for and the pasta special, while it looked plain, was very tasty. Service was prompt and friendly.

It’s been our third visits here, and it was always been the best experience. From the friendly and knowledgeable staff , interior and most especially the food they served! Never fail to meet my expectations. A good place for date night or family dinning out. Lots of options to offer. The risotto was quite unique a definitely a must try and the meat was cook perfect . It is juicy and tasty. They have parking space which is convenient and a store to get some fresh pasta , bread and cheese.

There's always a reason to visit this place twice in one day. First for the market they have: the deli, cheese, preserves, and everything in between. Second, for drinks and food at any hour of the day. COVID compliant, and a great patio. The drink selection is simple and perfect. The wine list is extensive, and worth a lunch or dinner or two or three.

It was great all around! Food was great. Staff is friendly. Upon arrival, they explained the concept and told us that the food is all freshly made so it takes time to get your food. So if you are in a rush, I'd recommend going to another restaurant....though it's worth the wait. I recommend sitting at the bar to see all the action in the kitchen.

When I went to pick up the food everyone was very professional and the food was just the thing I needed after a long day at work. Thank you for making my day better 😃. One of my favorite restaurants in Calgary. Atmosphere is modern, staffs are friendly. Food is top notch. Steak is as good as it gets. There is a market next to it and I saw customers buying food from the market and ate it in the restaurant due to food allergy issues.

Four and half stars... Food is great, service is great, very clean, great atmosphere. Portions are on the smaller side and it's on the pricey side but you get what you pay for!

Food was excellent, but be careful with your reservations! We had reserved a table a month in advance for our anniversary and re-confirmed it the day of. We get there 15 minutes early, and when we say our reservation name, the hostess looked concerned and brings the manager over to whisper to each other. Don't know what they discussed, they just say we cannot have a table, and that "someone else" has the only one available reserved for 5pm (same time as our reservation). No apology or anything. Luckily there was an unreserved high-top available to still eat. That other reservation never showed up and our table sat empty the whole time.

Our families favourite Italian restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are very prompt and accommodating! Loved the mushroom risotto and cheesecake. Yum! You will not be disappointed.

One thing that proved Avenue ranking on restaurants is just all fake politics. Mercato is one of the top 10 for a decade!!! Blows any other Italian out of the water and puts to shame steak houses. This place is always top notch!! One of the best restaurants in Alberta. Have been going for years and it has never been anything but amazing.

Wow! We had such a good time and excellent meal this evening! It was our first time dining in at Mercato and what an experience! I expected great Italian food, based on prepared meals we have had from the market, but the food this evening was way more than we expected. I have never had Italian food done with such creativity, freshness, and quality! The family style dining was an amazing surprise, and we loved being able to order so many different things and share it all. Our server was outstanding and expertly explained how the menu works and what the portions might look like. We had four courses including dessert, plus the freshly baked focaccia bread which is served in nice little portions each with our own oil and vinegar saucers to dip it in. The meal was worth every penny and we will definitely be back, but next time we will try sitting inside when it is 31 degrees outside! Thanks Mercato for an exceptional evening!

The food is good, not great, and the service is ok. Given that the prices are so high, the food and service need to be exceptional. As a side note, I take these reviews seriously. The restaurant business has always been challenging enough without people who felt a draft rating it one star and describing it as the worst experience ever. For this reason, I typically don’t review restaurants that are less than 5 stars (let market forces sort them out). It is with carful judgement and consideration that I rate Mercato 4 stars.

Truly amazing experience all around! We had the squid ink pasta with mussels, some of the best pasta I’ve ever had! And the lamb was to die for! Only qualm was that after sitting in front of the kitchen for a while I became very hot.

One of my favorite places to go for a special occasion. The location is accessible by transit by taking bus #3 sandstone. The surrounding communities and establishments feels safe and quiet. We came in for lunch for valentines day 2016 and my overall experience was superb. The waitress was attentive to needs, knowledgeable of the menu, fast service and always smile. The food was also superb, we ordered the valentines day special risotto with red wine reduction to give a nice pink rose like color. The flavor was intensely good, soft and gooey texture. Next we ordered the pappardelle which was also amazing using lamb meat, sweet peas and wild buffalo cheese on top. Pasta sauce tasted fresh, not too sour and generous offers for the meat. I highly recommend both of them. For the finale, we ordered Bistecca and it was glorious. Soft, high quality meat and lots of fat, it is worth it. I would definitely come back for more.

Fabrizio was easily the best server I’ve ever had during my 16 years living in Calgary. He noticed things that were needed to be done before I noticed it. Our table had a wobble and he fixed it before we even noticed. Our waters were refilled insanely fast which I appreciated. He went over the food with us before we ordered it and when it arrived he described it again. The food was great but the service was out of this world. If you have the pleasure of being served by Fabrizio you will have the best night of your life. I’m not sure how much you guys pay him but it should get a raise. Thank you for a great night Fabrizio

Great ambiance. Staff was very attentive. Got 2 ribeyes, mussels, and squid ink pasta. Everyone in my family eats their steak medium rare while I prefer mine rare for the most part. Flavour for the steak was good, but I found it a touch dry. Pasta and mussels were great. Their orange juice is good as well. We finished with their unbaked cheesecake and it was probably the best cheesecake I've had.

This place always makes good memories. My husband and I started our very first "having lunch together" here, and also came on our day of proposal :) Last week, we have visited once again for a lunch to celebrate my birthday and everything was as good as 9 years ago. The only thing was the focaccia was quite dry and bland tastes. It looked like it was baked a day before or even few days. This place used to serve assorted olives and I personally prefer that over focaccia. Other than that, appetizer and main dish were exquisite, server was friendly and atmosphere was nice. Highly recommend this place.

Mercato is a fantastic restaurant that has excellent food and service. The food will be priced accordingly but I’ve enjoyed everything I had. You want to go with a few people to share all the food. The pastas are good with flavour and the Bistecca steak is one of my favourite in Calgary. There could be a couple of dishes that may be considered on the salty side but generally I like a little salt so I don’t mind too much. It’s a great spot for a special occasion or taking an out of towner.

Food was quite delicious and came out fast. I LOVED the Mussels! The sauce it was cooked in really highlighted the seafood flavour. It was also perfectly portioned. The Polpo (octopus dish) lacked any flavour, and was underwhelming. The Linguini was nice and light, and paired well with the manila clams. We then ordered the Bistecca - we were ordering the bigger portioned one, but the strangely server recommended the smaller one. When it came out, there was definitely not enough for the 3 of us (I think we each had 2 small strips). I have never had a server down-sell the menu before! Anyways, got the Tiramisu for dessert. It was alright, seemed light, but nothing really making it amazing. I would consider coming back to this place.

I’ve had steak all around the world but this remains one of the top places I go when I need to satisfy my steak craving. The beautifully marbled steak is served Italian family style and melts in your mouth with every bite. Tender, juicy, flavorful, pretty much everything and anything that you could want in a steak. The restaurant itself is a vibrant market in the trendy Mission area. A variety of great Italian dishes to round out your dining experience, this is a neighborhood institution to be savored with friends and family.

Not a takeout fan..... But that is the only choice currently in our current situation. Ordered pizzas last night and they were delivered very quickly, they were hot and in Mercato style were amazing. Thank you for years and years of great food and amazing service. A Calgary staple.

Very cozy environment. I had the Agnello which was great! But the side of the lamb was a little bit burnt. My friend had the Bistecca and they love it so much/ the pasta was good too. Good customee service !
