Dozens of promising BBQ joints have popped up in Calgary over the years, each carrying with it a glimmer of hope that we’d finally get authentic southern BBQ. One after another, each new restaurant failed to deliver on the flavours we’d come to expect from our travels in the South, and I had finally given up hope that anyone could pull off great BBQ flavours in the Great White North. When a friend suggested we try Jane Bond for lunch, I had to temper my expectations. Would it be good BBQ, or just ‘good for Calgary’? We entered during a busy lunch rush, made busier and more hectic in that they were short staffed, and it was all hands on deck rushing to fill orders as fast as they were coming in. Incredible smells hit us immediately in the entryway, and the decor was sprinkled with artifacts from the southern states. Jane Bond was already off to a good start and we hadn’t even ordered yet. While waiting patiently for our festive smoked turkey po’ boys, it was clear that the other diners were thoroughly enjoying their food, and I started to feel a glimmer of hope that we might be in for a treat with our lunch. The food finally arrived and was served enthusiastically by the owner, whose joy for cooking became clear the moment we saw the food. Beautiful double-deep-fried sweet potato fries were served with a surprisingly spicy chipotle mayo, alongside a gorgeously creamy mac and cheese. The star of the show, a mouthwatering festive turkey dinner po’ boy, was the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and savoury. This was the kind of sandwich where every bite is a little different, and perhaps a little better, than the last. It’s the kind of sandwich that becomes and exploration of flavours, like a thrilling journey you wish had no end. It’s the kind of sandwich you’ll go back for again and again. Reasonably priced, excellent flavours, welcoming atmosphere, and owners who clearly love what they do - Jane Bond is a sensational combination so rare in Calgary that this gem of a restaurant needs to be protected and visited often. It wasn’t until we were driving away that we realized that we had forgotten to order a pecan pie to go. Darn, I guess that means we’ll have to return to explore the dozens of other items on the menu. #janebondbbq #aintnosin #playingwithfire

This BBQ joint is so much fun! BBQ 101: Order your meal @ the till (platters and cornbread a must!!), sauces are on the table and 'ain't no sin if sauce gets on your chin'. Did I mention they also have cocktails? 🍻🥂🍹 Thanks for the wonderful service Jane Bond Staff we'll be back again soon!

Literally the closest you can come to traditional Southern US style bbq without having to spend time in Texas or Louisiana for example. Food is absolutely delicious and full of flavour. We had the full rack of ribs, pork belly, brisket, chicken, corn bread, onion rings, beans and I do not have a complaint whatsoever about any of the food we had. The ribs were so tender the meat literally full of the bones!!! Home made sauces were delicious and a perfect complement to the meats. Portions are huge and very generous. Staff are friendly, helpful and will make sure you are happy with your order. Very impressed.

The best BBQ in the city! The food was amazing! We tried the Jane Platter and enjoyed their ribs, brisket, and pork belly! Their corn bread is to die for! The kids loved their crispy wings, Mac and Cheese, and onion rings! We also tried their fried catfish and it was amazing! We got excellent service from Vanessa. Overall, it was a great experience on an Easter Sunday!

let me start off by saying this review has nothing to do with the staff, they were very pleasant to deal with. that's the only reason for 3 stars. The feel of the restaurant a mixture of school cafeteria and an American family reunion. I really wanted to like this place, so so much. Ordered the the bond platter so as to get a bit of everything. Coconut corn bread was good. I would order that again. Chicken was probably the best meat on the platter, flavourful and not dried out, Sausages were good, but I am sure they are sourced by the restaurant. the rest of the platter gets a thumbs down. All the meats on this platter lacked everything that is BBQ. Only the BBQ sauces saved these meats. Everything was bland and had no flavour. It was almost suspect of being cooked in heat trays after a quick smoke (didn't get any of the flavour) . Brisket was not tender or flavourful had a smoke ring but did not taste at all like they were smoked. pork belly was blah , (leave it off the menu). Ribs were very dry as if to be sitting out all night. Corn was good, has a bit of a kick which I liked. we opted for the beans and then the slaw, both these go for quantity over quality. Over all for what they charge for the food it is not the quality BBQ you should expect. You get a lot of average fast food quality product you can feed to a party table, but for what this meal cost us we were disappointed. update to response. Don't worry we will give you another chance. but we wont notify you of when we come in. this allows an unbiased purchase, and we aren't looking for special treatment because of a review(or free food) . all we want is fair value for the dollar and this should be every time someone orders a meal that they pay for. as for an inhouse notification when we are there, the meal didn't need to be sent back because it was awful, We just left feeling like it should have been better.

Some of the best BBQ in Calgary. The brisket was nice and tender, the corn was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was nice and juicy. They even threw in extra BBQ sauce on the house. This is my new to go spot for BBQ. Keep up the great work.

Yeehaw 🤠 Our First Stampede dinner after lockdown. Hangry BBQ Plate 1/4LB each: Tender Smoked Brisket, Grilled Thighs and Smoked Pork Belly w Coconut Cornbread and Fries. BBQ & Carolina Sauces Included! This is mouth-watering, good BBQ folks!

I promised that I would leave this review, so here I am! So, not going to lie, the reason we decided to try this place on our recent trip to Calgary, was because we loved the sassy responses to bad reviews. We thought, what’s the worst that can happen, if the food is as bad as the reviews say, we don’t go back and get to add to the bad reviews and sassy responses. Those bad reviews couldn’t be more wrong!! The food was amazing!! The crawfish were delicious and cooked perfectly, the andouille sausage was spicy and juicy…there literally wasn’t anything on our platter that we didn’t thoroughly enjoy! My husband loved the Jamaican style bbq sauce and I was a big fan of the mustard sauce, but they were all wonderful on all the meats. The service was fast and friendly, and they took their time to explain the menu and offer suggestions to us first timers. There is no question in our minds that we will be back the next time we are in Calgary.
