Ikemen Ramen Bar's Reviews and comments
We absolutely loved this place. They have some unique ramen types, a few that don’t have pork broth base.
We tried the Green Curry and Tom Yum [both with Seafood], both were so unique and delicious.
Also, the Takoyaki was authentic and amazing. They have 2 beers on tap and 2 in cans, sticking to what works.
The service was attentive and kind. We’ll 100% be back.
It was my first time at this Ramen bar & it was a pleasant visit ! The waiter & kitchen were very friendly, we ordered a Miso Ramen & the spicy curry Ramen. They were kind & made it mild for me, i will for sure be returning soon. I recommend coming here for a delicious ramen dinner :)
The best ramen in Calgary hands down. I’ve been coming here for years and this is the place I recommend to others when they ask for ramen suggestions. 🍜
The pork is always juicy and delicious, the onsen egg is always perfectly cooked, and the broth is sooo so yummy and not too salty like I’ve found in other places.
Really fresh ingredients, flavorful dishes, quick service. Very large portions. Loved it!
Very delicious ramen! And quite authentic as well. Service is great as well. Will definitely come again.
The best ramen in town, I tried roasted tomato seafood ramen and it’s so yummy. Highly recommend it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Service was excellent and fast, and the food was great. Seats were socially distanced (had a whole bench to myself) so I felt pretty safe. Highly recommend.
Dropped in for lunch and enjoyed the miso ramen - huge, tasty portions! Perfect for a sunny but chilly day!
Please be careful because this place can become addictive. I’ve had the curry Ramen and the cold Ramen with deep-fried chicken and yogurt. The former is warm and rich but not too thick. The cold noodles are a dish I go back for often. It’s very refreshing on a summers day. Pairs well with Sapporo. Because it has deep fried chicken in it, it doesn’t feel like you’re eating a “salad”. It’s warm and filling and a favourite of everyone who works there!
Warm and neat spot for your ramen cravings while in Kensington!
First of, all of their staff was amazing and always cheerful. There are plenty of seats and communal table so I don’t think this place gets really full.
Ramen were okay. They serve it in a really big bowl. Serving time was a little slow but we don’t mind during that time. The broth was creamy and a little heavy when you try to finish all of it. The Chicken meat was so delicious, I should’ve ordered an extra. The pork cut was also tasty considering they have a perfect marbled fats. Noodles were okay, not too soggy and not too firm.
I've eaten twice this week! Especially here’s roasted seafood ramen was very good! I can truly recommend here to my friends. Atmosphere, service, taste perfect. next time, I am gonna have sushi and a ramen🍣
My friend and I had dinner at Ikemen tonight and had a blast! Service was lovely and the food was veeeery tasty! My Shio ramen was tasty and subtle, and My friend has the Miso ramen and really enjoyed it. The ambiance was lovely and everyone was nicr and attentive. Koodos to Ikemen!
Having Ramen for the first time I'd say this was the perfect place to go to. Great service and staff was very friendly!
Delightful patio! Iced tea and big bowls of ramen. Can't wait to return! 🏵️🍃✌️-Lady Caviar
Have been there for a few times with my family. Nice food, great service. It reminds me the taste we had in Japan!
The restaurant has a modern decor and good vibe. If it gets nice out they also have a decent patio. Food seemes reasonably priced and staff was friendly. The only annoying this was our food didnt come out at the same time.
Great bowls of Ramen. The miso was thick and rich with pieces of BBQ pork and chicken. The noodles were also perfectly done. Would have like a side of ginger to offset the richness of the soup, but that's my preference. Not a lot of selection, but got different types of ramen not seen anywhere else.
Good place! I’ve been trying all kinds of ramens here. All the ramens are so good. Let me share good tips! The way I enjoy the ramen is... 1. Shio ramen + spicy sauce or Chili powder 2. Roasted tomato seafood ramen + add cheese curd 3. All the ramen + more garlic chips. Awew I love here! And I recommend you to try Cinamon Mochi for the dessert with coffee or tea!
We came across Ikemen Ramen Bar in the Kensington area of Calgary on a Wednesday afternoon. The parking situation is grim, but if driving, you can search for paid street parking nearby. When we arrived, we were greeted and led to our table. The restaurant itself isn't very large and can hold about 9 parties. It was busy when we arrived, so we felt lucky we were able to snag a table.
Overlooking their main menu, they have appetizers, ramen, sushi, sashimi, and dessert. We started with an order of edamame (steamed soy beans with sea salt) for $4. When it arrived, they didn't bring an extra bowl to store the empty bean pods. We used an empty plate we had available instead. This was a typical edamame appetizer, nothing special.
We also ordered the Unagi Poutine, an Ikemen Ramen Bar original. This was made with house-made chicken gravy, hand-cut potato fries, BBQ fresh water eel, bonito flakes, garlic mayo, and seaweed powder for $13. This appetizer was pretty gross. The entire plate was cold including the gravy, fries, unagi, and cheese curds. I wish it was at least warm. This would have made it much better.
Lastly, we also ordered a Shio Ramen bowl which was composed of sea salt, local farm pork/chicken chashu, onsen egg, green kale, garlic chips, sesame seed, and green onion for $13 + $1 for yuzu-kosho spice added. It came in a giant bowl, and the broth itself filled up less than half of the bowl. They use chicken paitan (white broth) boiled for 8+ hours as their ramen soup bases. The ramen was okay. I didn't enjoy it that much. The yuzu-kosho spice didn't add anything to the broth. The quality of the noodles was weak.
Edamame - $4 - 3/5
Unagi Poutine - $13 - 2/5
Shio Ramen - $14 - 2/5
Overall, this place is very average. Although they have good service, the edamame needs to be served with an extra empty bowl for eaten pods, the unagi poutine needs to be warm, and the ramen bowls need more attention to their noodle quality and spices used. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here.
I really like coming here for ramen. The flavours do not bother me in a way that some ramen bars would have very salty broth. I found their broth pleasant. The atmosphere is nice and controlled because it is a little dim inside and it minimizes the feeling of the restaurant being busy during rush. Service is always great! Not one bad server that I have encountered.
Nice place to grab lunch or dinner. It's quiet and I've always been able to get a They have several vegetarian options. There is a mushroom broth ramen and a roasted tomato ramen so more options than just a miso base. They had a squash ramen on special one day and it was really good. They also have daily specials.
Unique ramen place. Bit pricey.
Very nice environment, staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food tested great as well. Would come back again!
A good place for ramen. Don’t forget to order their chicken chips. The servers are very friendly.
Noodles were well cooked and good texture. Broth was delicious. Only downside was the skimping on the seafood and meat, which I guess is pretty common for lunchtime ramen. I tried the Tom yum and spicy miso, both of which had great flavour.
The gyoza was not bad; nothing special when you compare with soup dumplings. The ramen is decent but presentation is so fantastic that I didnt want to stir and mix my ramen. Overal it is a great place to give it a try.
Friendly staff and good food as well. Definitely a place to keep coming back to with your friends :)
One of the best Ramen places I have been to in Calgary. Love their Seafood Ramen. They also have poutine which is a must try, very different!
Very friendly and amazing staff. My girlfriend ordered a ramen bowl that tasted like soap and the servers were so nice to replace her bowl with a new one. Other than that the ramen was delicious!
In the images are Tuscany roll and Tom yum seafood Ramen
A few vegetarian/vegan options (made with vegetable broth) The tomato ramen we tried was really good! The staff was friendly and nice. Well located. Prices are a bit on the expensive side.
The ramen does not disappoint! Delicious and satisfies even the strongest craving.
Impressed by the Shio Ramen and Karage. Very good service too! Never went without water :)
Place is really trendy and clean and the service was top notch. I ordered the Green Curry Seafood ramen and it was very good. Seafood was cooked perfectly. If you prefer it spicy definitely ask for a side of chili sauce.
My absolute favorite ramen restaurant anywhere! Their shio ramen with the yuzukosho is mind blowing! But what is amazing is that when they have sushi - it is one of the most creative and delicious in the city. The seared spot prawn with tobiko is crazy good as is the seared salmon.
Delicious food! Miso ramen tasty. Shio not as yummy. Great special chef's menu!
My girlfriend and I had a great time here. The food and drinks were delicious, and it left us feeling full and satisfied well after we had left. We will absolutely be returning. Pictured below is the delicious softshell crab.
The vegetable ramen was absolutely delicious, as was the sangria, which was a very pleasant surprise. Staff is friendly and service is quite good, though it was fairly empty at the time.
I would definitely not recommended dessert though, as the portions are quite small for the price. Had the crème brulé, as recommended by the waitress, and was quite disappointed by the sweetness overpowering the matcha flavour, as well as the frozen through berries on top.
Great location and very friendly staff. While we enjoyed the ramen, we didn't find it of exceptional quality. The tomato based broth was quite nice, but missing the richness found in other noodle places nearby. We also found the soup ingredients were relatively sparse, and not outstanding in their nature. The chopped white mushrooms, avocado, and kale - while trendy ingredients - felt out of place in a ramen. We do hope to return to try out some of their other interesting menu items!
Note, the picture was taken after the first few slurps - the soup initially had a nicer appearance.
We had Shoyu and Tan tan. Both were fabulous! Will be visiting them again when we are at Banff next time!
I've been alternating between vegan and vegetarian diets for over ten years now & holy smokes, this place is AMAZING.
You know that amazing smelling dish that is never vegetarian? And the smell fills your nose for hours and you don't even want to eat the tofu and steamed broccoli anymore?
The truffle king oyster mushroom tempura & the roasted tomato veggie ramen smell coming from this box would make any veggie head envious and dare I say even make meat eaters drool!
10/10 A MUST TRY!
Just my personal stand point having been here to try the ramen for the second time, and for both i say the soup is somewhat lacking in contrast with other ramen place in the city. The staff were great, although a bit slow considering having only few people at the time we where there. In preference, the tom yum soup was my most favoured.
Tried the tomato prawn ramen, which was pretty good overall, but had exactly one prawn in it. I've had better seaweed salad as well- the flavour didn't 'wow' me.
A bit hipster, but very delicious. They're very accommodating if you need pork free, etc., and they have great seafood and vegetarian options. Warm comforting, and simple. Appetizers are a tad pricey, and you pay extra for tea, but otherwise the price is okay. Great for dining alone or with friends!
Food was yummy, got the shio ramen (spicy) and the spring rolls (amazing)
Seafood Tom yum ramen 😁
Interesting take on Ramen without having traditional pork broth, the patio is great for a summer day.
I've only been here once because it is a bit pricey but the food tasted and looked great!
Really great atmosphere, welcoming customer service, and there is a really good selection including vegan items.
Shiho (shino?) Ramen was good. Noodles were hard and the soup was sitting in the pass awhile, it developed a film on the top but it was still alright. The meat was pretty good and the broth was nice. I'd go back but I've had better.
Delicious ramen. I had spicy seafood ramen. Good selection of tea, sushi, and desserts as well. Located in the heart of trendy Kensington.
Delicious Ramen that comes in huge portions.
Absolutely delicious, one of my new favourite places in one of my favourite neighborhoods. Lovely and welcoming service, beautiful yet simple dining area. Miki is awesome, thank you so much Miki!
Chicken based broth (white) for ramen, that's all you need to know.
Authentic food served by Japanese staff. Epitome of Japanese hospatility, thank you to Minaqo for 5-star service.
Food was great, exceptionally friendly staff, and super tasty Ramen! Was a little chilly inside though - bring a sweater ;).
This is spacious, excellent service, and fabulous ramen.
Ramen was ok but the Unagi poutine was amazing!! Service was awesome as well.
Absolutely delicious!!! Omg such wonderful favors in the roasted tomato veggie ramen. The veggies were nice and fresh. Portions are the perfect size too. Definitely will be back. The sangria here is also pretty fantastic.
Just for a change. Reasonably priced.
A great ramen spot in the heart of Kensington, just a couple blocks up from Memorial. Very friendly waitress took our order, 2 mushroom ramen and a miso ramen. Very good quality, great flavour, and a very healthy portion. Also ordered the fried brussel sprouts and gyoza. It was all delicious, wasn't laughed at when I asked for a fork, and quite quick. I would return anytime.
Sooooo delicious! Their ramens are amazing! I've also tried their sushi and sashimi here and it is fresh amd tasty. Price is justified and location is great! Staff is friendly and quick. Lots of space to sit. Never has been too busy for us to drop in and eat.
Love the seafood tom yung ramen. I will definitely come back
Watching Lone Wolf and Cub while in social distancing this Easter; we picked up our orders of ramen and the truffle king oysters, and, OH SO GOOD!!! Thank you for the friendly, excellent service that follows the health protocols and the so-very-tasty food! The mushrooms might just be a little (A LOT) addictive. Stay safe and healthy!!!
Good ramen.
This place has korean music, but the ramen is still pretty good. It’s on the higher end of price ranges, at around $14 a bowl. The shoyu here came with egg and a bunch of toppings. The service here was great, and the restaurant was nice and cosy. I don’t have any complaints about this place.
Few choices for ramen, but they are all very high quality.
Cool atmosphere and good staffs.
YUMMY!! Been back a few times and it’s always consistently good.
Tasty chicken broth ramen with pork and chicken chashu included in every bowl. Gyoza is also very good. Egg is a bit too funny for me as well as overall being a bit pricey place
The food was phenomenal, both my miso ramen and my boyfriend's green curry were incredible, though I did find the broth to be pretty salty. The highlight was the meat in my ramen, the chicken was delicious and juicy and pork belly fatty with amazing chasu taste. We went during happy hour, so his sake and the chicken karaage appetizer were only 5 bucks each, though the tea is more expensive than other places (5 dollars compared to 1-3, but you get what you pay for.) The cinnamon mochi dessert is unique enough to try, but I'm not sure I'd get it again. All in all, one of the better, if not best, ramen places in Calgary.
Great food every time. This spot is one of my regular places
Man this place has potential to be one of the top tier ramen places in Calgary. Great broth, good noodles, nice appies, good service...but they kind of cheap out on toppings. No bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, not much meat...so the bowl is a bit "boring" as a result. If they fixed that, they'd be my go-to since it's walking distance for me!
A good alternative choice of ramen in Calgary.. but not the best
Awesome Ramen place
Pretty good ramen
Great miso ramen!
Not the best Ramen place in Calgary, but far from the worst. Their broth saves their dish when the meat and noodles fall a bit flat.
They do, however, give EXTREMELY generous portions of meat. Their standard serving of meat in their ramen is triple the size of any other ramen restaurant. Too bad it lacks a lot of flavor and isn't grilled over charcoal like other places. I would gladly take less meat if it meant the fat was more rendered from longer cooking, or the flavors were more intense from grilling it over charcoal after being sliced.
Great service. Without realizing, I entered their store before close and they still seated me and let me order my food. I appreciated that they did not rush me and allowed me to enjoy my food. I ordered the mushroom Ramen, it was served nice and hot! Definitely recommend
I went here today for lunch and the food was amazing and so was the staff. I accidentally left my left overs that i was going to take on with me on the table, and the guy who served my friend and I ran outside down the block to personally hand me my left overs that i forgot on the table. What a kind staff member, it absolutely made my day!!
Amazing service by Michael. He suggested the best of Ramen & both the dishes were absolutely scrumptious. The best Ramen in Kensington.
The chicken chips is so good! Ramen is tasty as well. We come here quite a bit because of the relaxed atmosphere and good food. We will definitely be back.
This spot clearly knows how to satisfy their clients. Consistently with a very friendly mindset. The food is conveniently priced, regularly tasty and clean.
The food is delicious, I have visited many times and have never been disappointed. The presentation is beautiful and service has been friendly on the several occasions I have eaten in the restaurant.
Their website, however, makes it difficult to access their menu for ordering pickup - was redirected to an inactive Skip the Dishes site when I attempted to navigate the page. Also, the phone number linked to their Google page seems to be not working so I was forced to order through a food delivery app instead of calling for my pickup order.
Famiky ordered cold cha shu men take-out. Taste was awesome, but maybe a bit pricey for what you get. The location was spacious and well placed. Bit tight on parking.
I admire this restaurant a lot. there is a different spirit. The cuisine is splendid. the service is effective and the personel is professional. The cost is decent. profoundly recommend.
Came here at 9:30pm on Thursday. There were 4 other customers. Place is really clean. Great portion. I love the crunchy garlic. Lots of meat. What I really liked was the way the noodles were cooked is good (for me anyway). Would come again if I was nearby.
Absolutely amazing. Broth is rich and flavourful with the perfect amount of saltiness. Noodles cooked with the exact bite you’d want in your ramen and the pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth. Chicken skin chips...unreal. Service was outstanding. Highly recommend.
Delicious food, huge portions(for the ramen at least). Great service. Prices are decent, not too expensive but not cheap either. Only downside is limited drink menu. Definitely worth the trip.
What a great spot in Kensington. Never gone for Ramen at a restaurant and I have to say it was a great first experience. Lovely establishment, refreshing menu and decent service. Will be back again.
Pretty standard fare for Calgary. Less so of a traditional ramen and more so a modernized-westernized version. No soft boiled egg, which was unfortunate - it came poached. Otherwise broth was not bad. Interesting choices on the menu, particularly the chicken skin, which was pretty good and tasted a little bit more than what would be expected. Overall fair experience. Staff was very nice and helpful, which is always a plus
Great - I get why naruto likes ramen so much now
