Big Catch Sushi Bar's Reviews and comments
Love the friendly service, even if it is just for pickup, and the personalized notes can’t help but make you smile :) The nigiri and sashimi are fantastic and highly recommended. But the oshi rolls (the square ones), while beautiful, are not well balanced with too much rice, which doesn’t allow you to taste the lovely toppings. We’ll be back to try their other round rolls and fill up on their amazing sushi and sashimi. Highly recommended!
Always an amazing experience here. The service is super friendly, plating is beautiful and sushi is always fresh and tasty. It is fairly small though, so I suggest making reservations.
It really is one of, if not, the best sushi place in Calgary. You can tell how much thought and care goes into each piece or roll and the quality really shines through. High grade ingredients and great flavour combinations are what they pride themselves on. Don't be swayed away by some of the prices...you get what you pay for which is just great sushi.
We ordered delivery for a group of six. I am always a little hesitant in ordering sushi for delivery. The food and delivery surpassed any expectations I had. The food was really good, the presentation was perfect (even in delivery plates). I wish I had taken pictures. Highly recommended and next time I'm in Calgary I'll go in person.
I ordered food from here through Skip the Dishes. Skip was awful and took two hours for the driver to arrive to pick up my food. The good people at the restaurant were wonderful. They were very kind and helpful on the phone and had my order remade when the driver finally showed up. Great customer care! Will never use skip again but will for sure be back to Big Catch!
Big Catch is always very inventive, creating delicious combinations. The quality of the food is great, and they have a high attention to detail. They're also very friendly and wonderful to deal with!
I was craving Sushi, it has been so long since I had it, I did not know where to go. I checked out a few places online and found Big Catch.
I am so happy to have made this choice. Food was fantastic in taste and appearance. Excellent quality of fish and the "new" rice was delicious. I can't wait for them to be open for in person dining. The little personal note was a very nice and pleasant surprise :) Will be back soon :)
Helluva good sushi option. Ordered for pickup and the staff were very kind and knowledgable about food preparation and ingredients. They're proud of their sushi rice and I have to agree its good, but in a subtle-savoury way (I wouldn't expect nor want rice to burst with flavour and take away from the sushi anyway). Spicy tuna roll is very good, and comes with an incredible sauce. Looking forward to trying more of the oshi options, as I only had the Tokyo Smoke and it was great. Definitely on the pricy side, but not disappointing. Expect to pay a little more to fill yourself, especially if you order more sashimi than rolls. Their website has a detailed order menu that you can use to prepare yourself when in-house dining starts again. Shout out to their tempura also, it's almost flaky and quite delicious.
Great service and delicious food. Everything is well made, presented and tastes delicious. The sushi rice used is very unique to them also (mix of red vinegar) but not overpower in taste. Their platters are very well priced in accordance to quality +$48-49 for 2-3 ppl platter of approx 32 pieces. Although, you can argue to find cheaper, it is what they are offering that makes it worthwhile - pressed sushi, different sushi rice and sushi where the maki is overlayed with rice.
Phenomenal sushi, one of the best in Calgary. Their fish is super fresh and it is obvious all of their dishes are made with care. Flavours are well considered and balanced and typically add up to more than the sum of their parts. The chef's here are always working coming up with something new for the menu, whether it's appetizers, sushi rolls, or desserts, so there's always something new that is most likely delicious.
For our takeout meal we had nigiri sushi (saba, tamago, bluefin maguro toro, bluefin maguro, ika, and sablefish), negi hama maki sushi, and also tried the Tokyo Smoke, God of Wind, and Ruby Sky specialty rolls. Fantastic and gorgeously presented. Also tried the Hisui eggplant which was delightful. Highly recommended!
I needed something for a very special event during this COVID-19 pandemic, and Big Catch delivered amazingly. Shin, the owner of the restaurant, worked closely with me to curate a special menu that would work well as catering for the small event and went above and beyond in working out the details with me so everything was perfect. The food quality was amazing, some of the best fish we've eaten since having fresh fish in Japan honestly. Their premium oshi rolls were such a fresh and unique take on rolls, and most importantly, the taste and texture was bar none. The presentation was thoughtful, beautiful, and put together so well. I do try a lot of different Japanese restaurants and can't recommend this restaurant enough. It's definitely going to be my only go-to for fresh sashimi and delicious rolls from now on!
Ordered take out and got their special with shrimp tempura on the side.
The quality of food was great. They use this special rice/vinegar (I can’t remember which one as I lost the piece of paper that came with the sushi explaining why the rice isn’t white) 🤷🏽♂️ 😅.
Absolutely stunned at the quality and presentation that was delivered, even VIA DOOR DASH. Amazing job. Clearly these people are passionate about their craft. The only place I'll go for sushi from this day forward.
Huge fan. Delicious, artistic & child / family friendly. I highly recommend Big Catch Sushi Bar.
Happy helpful caring and knowledge staff who have stuck together since the previous location.
They are child friendly with child booster seats and a nappy changing table in the women's bathroom.
Parking is ample in the plaza.
Gluten free meal available.
Great dessert too.
Loved their home-made Ginger ale and
Plum wine (umeshu)!!
They are very committed to quality service and food. The presentation is exquisite - an art you find in Michelin star restaurants. The sauces are made by one of the chef's with French cuisine experience. It's beautiful.
It's what you would pay triple the price for in Big international cities.
Had been a fan since the previous location and hope to frequent this newly relocated, spacious, clean location.
A must go!
SO DELICIOUS!
And they left the cutest note on my pick up order.
The gyoza were perfectly crispy the sushi was fresh and delicious. Expertly rolled, even I could keep it together with my near non-existent chopstick skills. Tasted even better than it looks!
The staff were very welcoming and warm, and they all said goodbye to me on my way out, really positive energy in there.
Definitely my new go-to sushi spot!
Been there twice and love the food here! Especially the sashimi. I must admit that the horse mackeral beats my all time favourite salmon!
Pricey but you do pay for fresh, great quality sushi, presentation & service. Definitely would recommend!
Fantastic sushi! One of my favorite in the city. The servers are extremely nice. Fish is always fresh. Presentation is exquisite and the atmosphere is cosy.
Great sushi With wonderful service everything. Sushi was made with good quality and great presentation. Everything was a little bit on a pricey however everything was so delicious and well worth the wait. Don't forget to make reservation
One of the sushi places in Calgary that has the nicest presentation and one thing I appreciated was the menu that gives you a sneak peek of their beautiful food items. The food was very good and favorable, you can expect top quality from here. I also appreciate their wooden or bamboo straws! Give this place a try if you're in the area.
First time at this place. Really enjoyed it! Presentation was very nice. Servers are very informative, polite and friendly. Our favourite was the "Kyushu Style" Nanban chicken. My boyfriend ordered the yuzu ginger beer, it was a very light drink and refreshing. Not bitter at all. Will be back!
The food is amazing, the japanese art on the plate is gorgeous and, the staff is so kind. I loved the experience. Moreover, the price is fair. I totally recommend this place if you are looking for quality. The fish is fresh and everything is well made. Will come back for sure and, I can't wait to also try their takeout options. 😍 I hope the quality and the price do not change!
The food is incredible, in both flavour and presentation. I cannot find a single fault in the food, and the service surpasses anything I've experienced before. We lucked out by going a bit early and getting a table, but as the restaurant filled up around us, it became apparent that making a reservation may be a good idea.
They have made repeat customers out of my wife and me, and we will be telling everyone we know to go.
PS: Don't forget dessert.
My husband and I decided to eat here on a whim and we were not disappointed. The sashimi and sushi were fresh, great tasting and beautifully presented. You can tell the chef took the time to make the food a work of art. Service was quick and friendly. Restaurant decor was modern and cozy. We had a great date night dinner! I definitely recommend this place!
Possibly some of the tastiest & most lovely sushi we've had in Alberta! We arrived an hour before close on a Saturday, & ordered one of the combos so that we could try out a good assortment of the makise. Not only were they original & delicious, but the arrangement on large, gorgeous dishes with designs done in custom sauces made it a truly great experience that we have not had with sushi in so long!
The seating is casual which I think helps keep their prices at such a good range, which we sound refreshing because you don't need to be seated in a nice setting all the time to have great food. The fellow operating till & bringing food out that day was super friendly & chatted with us. One only regret is that we didn't get more sushi!
As a long time customer of Big Catch, they will always be my favourite place for sushi.
Reading through the negative reviews made my heart sink; I have known the owners since their time at the market and have had many in-depth conversations with them.
Price: Be prepared to spend a little more here. Yes, the sushi isn’t $10/roll, however, for the amount, the flavour, and the quality; the price is fair.
I have seen fast food sushi for a worse price.
The owners work hard and they only have the one restaurant, they did up their prices a bit from when they worked at the market; but that is understandable as they now run a restaurant, and not just a market food stand. (Plus inflation is a huge change in prices. They need to insure they are making an income. In regards to paying extra for sauce, as a restaurant that is only working takeout and trying to maintain costs, it is reasonable and fair to charge.)
Taste: I have never been disappointed by the sushi. They range in flavour from sweet, savoury, to spicy. It’s always amazing flavour in your mouth.
I honestly recommend not using soy sauce for the special rolls (ie. Autumn Harvest, Green Halo, Passion Sunrise, etc.) The rolls have so much flavour.
I have seen many sushi restaurants (even in Calgary) that serve fruit or jalapeños on their sushi.
The salmon and tuna are not bland, and they always just melt in your mouth.
The new red rice was a surprising change, I personally loved it, it gave a different flavour to the sushi rather than the normal “sushi rice” that you are used to.
Presentation: Big Catch has always strived for presentation, when they were open for dine in, they had beautiful designs and plated sushi so beautifully. Now that they are only sticking to takeout, they are still preforming as well as they can.
Sure, sometimes the sushi may fall apart during takeout and travel, or the special rolls make look a little bit different, but I have personally seen Big Catch present sushi the way they have it in photos.
Overall: If you are looking for a contemporary sushi bar that strives to serve its customers well, I highly recommend big catch.
Through the closures and the changes they have had to adapt as well as they can. The owners are doing their best to stick to their traditional roots and produce quality sushi that you would see in Japan.
So yes, be prepared to spend a little more; this isn’t some subpar sushi restaurant that pumps out sushi a mile a minute without caring.
When you sit in the restaurant you can see the chefs handle it with care and try their hardest.
The staff are so friendly and always up for a chat. (Yes, it’s hard to hear them recently because the stupid masks make it harder to understand someone.)
I cannot wait to go back in person someday.
[Tonight we ordered and we were absolutely satisfied and loved the flavour, we don’t order every month, only on special occasions, but it’s worth the money.]
One of the best sushi places in Calgary in my opinion. We ordered take out, it was fast, the sushi were very fresh, the service was amazing. And also they didn't put any cheap fillers like fried tempura in the rolls, tasted very authentic.
I would definitely recommend this sushi place.
Big Catch Sushi was a fantastic experience with even better food and drinks. The staff is extremely friendly and cheerful, the presentation is gorgeous, and the food is worth every penny and then some. My wife and I go out for sushi regularly, and this has become our favourite place to go to.
Update - checked out the new location in the Save On Plaza just south of Heritage and Macleod. Delicious, accommodating sushi. Lives up to great reviews! The sushi was delicious, beautifully presented and high end. Great place for a date or anyone you would want to impress.
The service, hands down, the best service you'll EVER receive in a sushi place. Passionate, well informed, and welcoming. Eye contact, smiles, quality checks. It's a pleasure being served with such care.
Rare shop, Team of Japanese owner Sushi restaurants. I dare say michelin should visit them.it's been four years since I ve been going there. They were at the farmers market. Now they have very elegant restaurants. Great for anniversary or date night. Rose shangria is awesome. Flavour is lovley and so much pleasure to see the drink too. Best Sushi plating in the calgary. Hands down. I love their special rolls, regular rolls, and nigiri/sashimi is just perfect. well aged and no fish smell. Price is not too high for sushi restaurants.
One of the best things about this sushi restaurant is the amazing presentation. I was floored by the delicate colours and shapes in each of the dishes and the care shown was equalled by the fresh, fantastic food. They have plenty of unique options and we’re well priced given the fancy feel to the place. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to treat themselves or have a colourful date.
Great sushi. Everything taste great. The sashimi melts in your mouth. The special rolls taste good and different.
The price is a affordable too.
I don't know where to even start with this review, this place is amazing! This place was recommended to me by Google so I thought to myself, "I like sushi, my family likes sushi so let's try it out". Well I'm glad to say I did. First off, when you walk in you are greeted by the staff as soon as you walk in, and it has a very zen atmosphere and it's small but comfortable. One thing ( among many other things) that this place accels at is the staff is some of the friendliest I have seen and they are knowledgeable about what is good and make great recommendations. For drinks we tried the homemade iced tea and ginger ale. The iced tea emphasizes the tea aspect ergo it's not to sweet and gives it a mellow but not bland taste, I recommend it if you are a regular tea drinker. The ginger ale again puts all the emphasis on the ginger and it makes for a rally tasty drink that leaves you feeling refreshed instead of bloated.
Next the food. The food presentation is spectacular here, I'll let the pictures do the talking on that. But of coarse presentation means nothing if the food is subpar which I'm a pleased to say, it's amazing. The gold waygu beef I was particularly pleased with. We also had a dessert and it's nice to find a place that doesn't give you a huge portion for dessert, just enough to leave you satisfied. Finally, even when you get the bill at the end of the meal, they go above and beyond. It comes in a nice wooden holder with a little oragami bird. At the end of the meal my family and I agreed this would be our new favorite sushi place in Calgary! I can't wait to go back! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wow! What a great restaurant. The owners really took the time to make sure that the food was both presented beautiful and tasted amazing. The presentations really blew me away. The owner Non served us, so polite and I followed all of his recommendations and the food was just so great. If I could give it 10/5 I would!
Was here last night with my friends for his birthday and this is honestly the best service I've ever had at a restaurant! You can tell that the staff were so passionate about the restaurant - from explaining each course, cracking jokes, showing us the songs on their playlist when Shazam wasn't helpful, holding the door for us as we left - it was a positive experience from start to finish and I would 10/10 recommend this place to others.
The food was beautifully plated and tasted amazing - less is more and you'll know what I mean when you try it out. We ordered a variety of sashimi, oshi, special rolls, drinks, and desserts! All amazing and thank you so much for the staff for being so great!!!!
The staff was extremely friendly. I'm from Vancouver and I haven't tasted good sushi that is fresh in Calgary since we got here and the other place we did go to was an arm and a leg. Best sushi place in Calgary. I will edit that last statement when I find a place that is better. Love it we (my whole family) will be coming back.
I picked up food from Big Catch and absolutely loved it. The sashimi was delicious and so was the Iron Goddess. I cannot wait to go back and eventually dine in!
For a little restaurant near Heritage station, the quality is not bad at all. The presentation is outstanding, but the portions are tiny and you're paying a lot more than other sushi restaurants in the area. If you're looking for smaller portions that come in designer style presentation, this the place for you.
Impressive fresh and authentic taste!! High quality sushi and sashimi.highly recommend!
Staff is very welcoming and friendly, excellent service and quality.
Went to big catch today for my birthday dinner and wasn’t disappointed. The sashimi and rolls are the best I’ve had and the service is just incredible! Kudos to everyone that works here! They made my day a little bit sweeter ❤️
The sushi here is top notch. The quality of the fish is amazing and truly hard to find in Calgary. The service here is amazing from the greeting at the door to the recommendations and check ins. We will be back time and time again!!
I am blow away every time I visit Big Catch. The food is so fresh, and super high quality. I once ordered double to save half for lunch the next day and totally forgot because it was so good. I ate nearly $70 worth of sushi and it was so light that I barely felt full after - danger zone! LOL aaaaanyway... give it a shot, you won't regret eating here.
Decent selection of veggie sushi. The sushi was creative and we'll portioned. Asked for extra ginger and they were generous in giving me more. They forgot part of my order but followed up with me so will be claiming it next time we go there. Hope they eventually expand their veg selection take out sushi even more! Would love to see asparagus, peppers, bean curd, maybe something else creative ;)
This is easily the best sushi restaurant in Calgary if you’re looking for a true dining experience. They specialize in oshi (pressed sushi) and aburi (seared sushi), and their chefs are incredibly talented - I would compare the quality of the food to Miku or Minami in Vancouver. This is the only place I’ll take out of town guests who love sushi!
Must try items: the spicy miso soup, the Green Halo, the house made sorbet, and whatever they have fresh that the staff recommend. They regularly fly in special order fish from Japan, which is always incredible.
In addition to the great food, the service is consistently excellent. All staff are friendly and helpful without being overly involved, and you truly feel valued as a customer. Atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious.
In my opinion, the price is more than reasonable for what you receive. If you want AYCE sushi and prices, don’t come here. The chefs are creating art, and it is priced accordingly. Fully recommend!
Awesome Sushi Bar, great high quality sushi.
This is a nice and small restaurant but provide very high quality sushi. Both in roll and nigiri form. Staff and chef are all super friendly.
5/5 Would recommend to everyone.
Rolls here are the best. I love there sushi rolls 😍 Nigiri doesn't have a lot of choices, usually when I eat sushi I eat nigiri or sashimi. This isn't the place for that. But there rolls are amazing 🍣
Listen - the best things don't necessarily come easy. If you want the absolute, hands down best sushi in YYC, you're going to have to come pick it up as opposed to using your UberSkipDash, but let me assure you it will be worth the journey several times over.
Their specialty sushi pieces aren't ever garish, but marry flavours into something that is always more than the sum of their parts. Their rolls are exceptional, proving that doing a simple thing well often trumps doing a fancy thing at all. Their sashimi is of the S-tier, melt-in-your-mouth variety that is so often hoped for and rarely found.
In short, be kind to yourself and put in the work to pick up an order at Big Catch. Like all good things in life, it's worth the effort.
This place is amazing!! It was my first time visiting and I was beyond pleased. Very friendly staff and the local it’s super cozy. Sushi is fantastic, super fresh and the plate’s presentation is beautiful. Very good experience, I enjoyed every roll I ate.
I almost cried after this sushi.
My favorite was the scallop nigiri and the Wagyu.
Staff members are super nice ❤
Highly highly recommended.
Excellent customer service and great tasting sushi. Sashimi was fresh and rolls were tasty but the green Halo roll had too much rice for my taste.
Came here for lunch with some co workers. Only had the Benton box didnt try anything else but I can already tell the quality is really good. Workers are Japanese, decor is really nice. Made me feel like I was in Japan again. I will definitely come back to try other things.
Extra care was taken in prepping my order.staff are extra lovely. Will go back to try some new things as I saw some very fresh fish being prepared. Ginger smells so fresh!
Highly recommend. The sushi is delicious and very fresh. The presentation is absolutely stunning. I went to it years ago and would love to go back.
So yum, not your normal sushi place for Calgary, if you want cheap bland sushi this is not the place for you. Flavour and great staff is what you get at this place. When I want to feel special I get this sushi.
Five stars. By far the best sushi I have ever had in Calgary in 20 years. Beautiful presentation, exceptional service and great value. Highly recommend.
Best sashimi in Calgary! No exaggeration. The fish melts in your mouth. The seared salmon was amazing and the Blue fin tuna is the best. Don't hesitate, go try this place out. It's small, seats 30 ppl or less.
Best sushi in the area! Every time we order we enjoy every moment. People who work there are very nice, the place is clean, and the sushi is fresh and tasty! Highly recommended
Always look forward to eating at Big Catch whenever I'm visiting Calgary (highlight of the trip!) Food is not only delicious but also beautifully crafted like a piece of art.
The food can be inconsistent here at times but when they're good, they're absolutely amazing. Flavours are interesting, punchy, and well-balanced. The shari rice is also very interesting and I appreciate that the oshi does not fall apart. Calgary's absolute best for aburi-style sushi. Love the Green Halo.
Special rolls is a must try!! It was absolutely delicious! Their regular rolls such as the dynamite is not as great. Presentation and customer service was excellent as well! It is pricey but the quality is amazing! Would definitely go back!
The tempura was light and perfectly crispy. They have really interesting and tasty aburi style sushi. Will definitely be back again to try some of their rolls and sushi.
One of my two favourite places for sushi in Calgary. Amazing servers, classy modern Japanese feel, passionate sushi restaurant and the fish is super fresh!
Tried the Green Halo (left) and Magic Mushroom (right) pressed sushi. Both were excellent. Unique, fresh & well-balanced. Attentive service. This might be my new favourite sushi joint. Can’t wait to try all the other rolls!
This sushi bar is one of the best I've tried in Calgary. And I've travelled to Japan so it's tough to compare sushi. The service was great and the menu is amazing, so many options. Price is a bit high but it's all worth it. The chef was very accomplished and made us a custom roll! This place is defs IG worthy
I absolutely love this sushi restuarant. And even though the sushi is great, it is the service that really sells me. The servers welcome you when you come in and they ask how you are doing during you meal at the very least 3 times. They even make accomodations for vegetarians. This restaurant used to be located in a farmer's market and so you can tell that the quality is quite good.I especially love their lunch Bento boxes as so get s lot of food for an affordable price. Their premium sushi is tasty and unique and the display on their dishes is very beautiful. I have had sushi from here five times now and I will continue to keep going here for more.
Delicious food, a bit on the pricey side, but great service and nice atmosphere. One of our party was vegetarian and had not mentioned it, but the server picked up on it and proactively mentioned that one of the sauces had bonito flakes and offered to switch it out for spicy mayo.
Sashimi was really nice and fresh and the roll was really well balanced, though a couple fell apart on us. The spicy miso soup was also beautifully garlicky and had great depth of flavour with just enough heat. I also had the yuzu lemonade and found it super refreshing. The bamboo straw was also a nice environmental touch. Would definitely return
Gorgeous food presentation and creative menu offering. The flavor profiles are rich and layers everyone can appreciate.
Service was incredible. Staff were friendly and accommodating. 10000000% return! It is worth the price.
Sushi was really tasty and the service was impeccable. Lots of nice small details didn't go unnoticed. Great presentation with the bill, and a nice decoration on the sushi platter. Best of all they held the door open as we left!
Delicious, fresh and unique sushi, beautiful presentation, super friendly staff with an incredible attention to detail. I’ve been going to Big Catch since it was at the Market on McLeod and it’s always been great quality and the same incredible service.
I’ve gotten takeout a few times from their current location and it’s been incredibly fresh and delicious. I also love the personalized notes they leave you when you do take out. Their current space looks beautiful and I can’t wait to go when dine-in is allowed again.
Having fresh sushi in a landlocked city costs a premium, so the prices are fair and justified. Big Catch is the best sushi I’ve tried in Calgary.
Always so delicious. The presentation is amazing, but the real treat is the awesome flavours and quality sashimi! Lucky we live so close!!
The best sushi I have ever had, from someone who has lived in both Vancouver and LA.
Amazing presentation. House made drinks awesome. So delicious. Amazing service . Five stars isn’t enough!
The new Shari rice is not that great. One of my favorite rolls is the simple Dynamite roll. The one we received, tasted old. Stale. Like when you order from the food court and it's sat in the fridge 2 days. The shrimp was even cold and hard.
Sashimi is fresh.
Service was awesome!!!
But make things fresh please and go back to the old rice. IMO
This place is really good. Best sushi in the area. The green halo premium oshi (rectangular pieces of sushi) and the chicken nanban (fried chicken) are some of our favourites! I recommend placing a pick-up order directly on their website, the prices are a bit discounted compared to skip the dishes (on top of not paying a delivery fee). I took one star off of my rating because our order tonight had a few rolls that were falling apart, and one of them had a bit of a fishy taste.
The fish is very fresh and sushi is the best we had in Calgary. We went to many other Japanese restaurant but nowhere else can compare with Big Catch.
The sushi was a feast for the stomach and the eyes!
Sushimi is super fresh and just melts in your mouth! Service was super great too!
Calgary’s best sushi and love the staff here. They always make you feel so special. They leave the cutest thank you notes on your take out orders. You must try the “Blossom or Sprout” sushi platter....yummy combinations including the “rodeo rider”. The sushi and combinations with their special sauces are like nothing ever tasted before.
As I have been eating lots a Japanese food in Asia, and also been to Tsukiji fish market and tried a few restaurants in the market in Tokyo, I have to say Big Catch is one of the best sushi I had.
Have been this farmers market long time ago, didn't have a good impression as there's not much to see(I love going to Blackfoot) A friend of mine recommended this place and today I finally had a chance to try it out.First impression was good, which I did t expctating any services as it's in the cafeteria in the farmers market, but the guy chatted with us, and checked with us twice and see if the foods OK, very typical Japanese as they have pride with their jobs and you can tell all people working there are very passionate and taking pride with their work.
Went to some expensive Japanese restaurants here in Calgary, never see they put as much efforts as Big Catch on the plating, and I can feel the love from the chef every bite.
Tried blue fin sashimi, chefs choice sashimi, Jupiter rain roll and Ruby sky. Blue fin's quality is close with those I tried in Japan, it melts in your mouth, that's the best sashimi I had in Calgary, Hamachi and both white and red tuna are so fresh, they melt in your mouth in different levels, I think it's probably how they store the fish.
The Jupiter rain roll tastes really good, love the seared salmon with the special sauce, I can tell they tried so many combinations before it releases to the market.
Ruby sky roll is my favourite!!! It's like different level of favors exploring in your mouth, reminds me the Anime food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, u gonna be surrounded by different ingredients and I never have this feeling. I'm serious! It's hard to imagine those ingredients put together would taste so good!
Too bad it's in the farmers mkt which only opens om Thurs to Suns till 7pm
Will probably try their appetizers next time!
Service was very warm and welcoming! Always made sure we were doing okay and if the food was to our liking. The ginger creme brulee was a surprisingly nice dessert but the matcha dessert is a classic you can't go wrong with.
Wow. We tried this place on a whim after seeing the ratings, and we were absolutely blown away. The food was amazing and the servers were lovely. So good we had to order a second round!
Step inside and you get greeted by the entire team - a lovely tradition that makes you feel so welcomed. The sushi is some of the best creations we have ever tried. Can't go wrong with any roll it seems like, you'll get an adventure on a platter. Great experience!
Favourite sushi spot in town. Great vibes, fantastic service and even better food! 5 out of 5, would eat again
Always happy with Big Catch! Great food, great presentation and great service. Always a good experience, ehether it's for take out or dining at the restaurant.
I love this place so much. My family is Japanese and eating here just reminds me of all of my favorite family memories. Very kind service and amazing attention to detail and quality food.
This is honest criticism. I actually LOOOOVE this place. However, I want you guys to go back to the way you were. The new brown rice is too tangy, and I don't like the rectangle rolls because they fall apart easy and the do it yourself side sauces are odd. The ginger ale had so much ice in it, it tasted funny. The sushi I ordered today also tasted fishy, whereas normally it is very fresh tasting. I always get so excited to eat here, but I was just disappointed recently by all the unnecessary changes. Please go back to what you used to be, like at Market on MacLeod. Just damn good sushi, no convoluted extras. The people here are so nice too. I wish you the best.
This is hands down the best sushi place in Calgary. Take out always arrives fresh and beautifully presented with a very personal touch. The prices are great, quality outstanding! However, I do have to order from the second best sometimes because they don't have Sunomono.....otherwise we'd be exclusive 😘🍱
Truly delicious. My new favorite sushi place. Beautifully made and presented. Staff friendly and welcoming. A true gem.
Honestly the best sushi in Calgary! I have never been disappointed. The service is fantastic always helpful and friendly! Would absolutely recommend it!!
Trusted the google rating and tried Big Catch for our first time tonight and WOW are we ever glad we did! First of all the appearance (especially for take out sushi) was beautiful! A nicely arrayed single tray with such a nice touch of beauty to the rolls and placement! Then, the flavour!!! This place is unbeatable. Hands down the best sushi in Calgary! We already can’t wait to order again! So so so good!
One of my favorite sushi places in Calgary.
Sushi is always fresh and service is always amazing.
Free parking and lots of available spaces.
Ordered two orders of rolls and one order of sashimi among the two of us. Thoroughly enjoyed the sushi and it was very fresh and the presentation was the cherry on top. Highly recommend it. It is at a farmers market so be mind of the sitting arrangement.
This place is rated as $$ BUT, I would say it’s $$$ minimum. Pricier than any place downtown. $55 left my girlfriend and I searching the fridge to come close to being full.
Ate at Kinjo just days ago and had 2 x as much food for the same price.
I rolled the dice when I ordered but I thought after the great reviews maybe they have big pieces. Nope, small pieces!
Other reviewers must be “earning points” 😉 because their reviews are VERY deceiving!!
Quality was good but “sushi grade” fish at any restaurant has to be quality.
Almost gave it 2 Stars but it was good food.
Very fresh seafood nicely plated. Excellent flavour. Extremely attentive service.
The staff is warm and welcoming.
The food itself was amazing. Some unique rolls and pressed sushi.
On the pricer side for sushi.. but you get what you pay for! The quality and freshness here is 5/5. You can tell they take the extra effort to make the food look presentable. It’s almost like artwork. If I ever want to treat myself for sushi this is the place I like to order from!
Best sushi in Calgary. Super unique flavours, high quality ingredients and very accommodating of food allergies. I've had sushi across Canada and this is one of the best spots in Canada and the best in Calgary.
Best sushi in Alberta! Clean, fresh, delicious, fast, courteous and reasonably priced! Must try!
Some of the most delicious sushi I have had in south Calgary! Staff is friendly and they’re always so thoughtful with their notes.
Beautiful assortment of sushi and sashimi for large round platters. We ordered a round platter during the covid pandemic and everything was just so beautiful and wonderful!
However, the presentation on single rolls for 1 person (not group platters) on other take-out occasions didn't meet the beautiful artistic presentational level so I dropped them down a star.
My girlfriend didn’t want to come here because we have never tried it and she was hungry. After making the risky decision based on a friend telling us to try it out, we see why it has such a high rating. Quality sushi some of the best I’ve had in Calgary and the staff was really informative and friendly.
Im not a sushi fan, but this place was recommended and I really enjoyed the sushi. If you are a sushi lover, don't miss it!
I eat sushi in almost every city I go to and I have to say that this is the BEST inland sushi I have ever had. The fish was fresh and the flavors great. This restaurant paid attention to all the little details including how to best flavor their sushi rice (which was delicious).
We had the sockeye salmon maki, albacore tuna maki and magic mushroom rolls. All I can say is that they were all fabulous and the truffle sauce on the magic mushroom rolls was to die for. Also, the food was very pretty. Normally when you get takeout you don't expect it to look great. When we got to our hotel the food was beautiful and it even had a little orchid.
Finally, I love personalized touches and found the note they wrote me very sweet. The drawing they included made me smile.
I will definitely be coming back here and can't wait for next time.
Definitely the best sushi place south of downtown!
Our favorite Sushi! Great take-away option during social distancing. Thanks for helping keep our sanity.
This Japanese restaurant should they there own place! We travel from Banff and stop by to have some sushi. It is amazing! Love there taste, details and staff. Restaurant I RECOMMEND 😋😋😋
Unfortunately, I'd say this place is a little over rated. Fish quality is great and if you enjoy fancy/unique/artsy rolls, VERY enthusiastic service, and a cute atmosphere, then this is the place for you. However, for the price, I can get far more quantity without losing out on the quality at many other sushi restaurants. Being nit picky but they also forgot to bring us our tempura yet it was on the bill. Not a huge deal but for a small, fancy place like this, I expect a bit more attention. Not a bad experience but not worth a 4.8 IMO.
This is by far the best sushi place I have ever been to, presentation was beautiful and the taste matched! If I could give an extra star for how well the staff treated us I would ((shout out to Tomo and Lika) sorry for misspelling)
Try the scallop sashimi!
Delicious! Their new location is lovely. Food and service are amazing just as they were at the market on MacLeod location.
Lots of gluten free options.
Great quality fish (they are one of the few places that serve wild salmon) and beautiful presentation. The look of the rolls are consistently great with lots of filling and very thin layer of rice. The staff are super friendly; they greet you when you come in, they're happy to message you back when you email them and they leave cute handwritten notes on your order. It's also very hard as a celiac to find a responsible place that understands cross-contamination concerns. They have lots of gluten-free options, you just have to ask. Hopefully in the future they can have it available in the menu what can and cannot be made gluten-free.
Sashimi tasted great for being in Alberta. The sushi rolls tasted good and the presentation is really nice.
This is the best sushi I've had yet in Calgary and thats with it being delivered every time. They use high quality ingredients and their tempura is delicious. They take care in their packaging and always write a cute little note with our meal. My only wish is to add Ebi Sunomono to the menu!! Yummy all the way around :)
Best sushi in Calgary. Have been a loyal customer for years, even when they were a tiny stand at the (now demolished) Kingsland farmers market. Never disappoints on quality and customer service, and lots of variety to change up your choices.
Stopped by to get a takeout order last night.
Looks nice and clean inside, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Nice little details like a little hand-written note and origami crane tucked in with my order.
The food was freshly prepared and tasty, but nothing out of this world. The nigiri sushi portions were disappointingly small. The roll I ordered was well-prepared and tasted fine but was quite expensive, and the tempura was average.
Overall, I'd say the prices are a little high, which would be ok if the quality and quantity were higher. These folks are fairly new, so hopefully they'll work on it.
I
Amazing food, one of the best Sushi I have ever had... An expert friendly waitress with a great service... cozy and ambient place... you can order in, skip the dishes... you need to make reservations for weekend but who cares I'll even wait an hour in line to eat that food, definitely going back them... the only downside is that they have only one branch and only in Calgary.. I wish they open a new one in Toronto. Lovedddd it
By far the best sushi I’ve ever had! The rolls and quality were outstanding. The service was fast and friendly and the little note on the package thanking us for our business was such a nice touch. Will recommend to everyone.
The quality of the food and the service was exceptional! My mother and I had lunch here and it was excellent. The nigiri was some of the best I've had in Calgary and they have a great selection of unique rolls. They also had an amazing sangria. All the servers were so genuine and kind. I'd eat here again soon!
Some of the best sushi in the city hands down! Reasonable prices for high quality sushi. Very friendly staff as well, this is our new go-to sushi place!
Absolutely delicious some of the best sushi I have ever had. Located inside the market on Macloed.
Wow amazing sushi, the presentation is like art and awesome service!
I would consider myself a heavy consumer of sushi from all over North America. I'm often in big foodie cities like Vancouver and New York, I would say that Big Catch is one of my top picks for sushi spots. Normally I just go for sashimi because I get sick of rolls after 2 or 3 pieces, but Big catch has the best rolls and nigiri I've ever had.
They are also very well priced for what they offer and that's a huge selling point for me. I highly recommend this spot if you enjoy quality sushi.
I just ordered here for the first time and will definitely be back soon! The food is delicious and so fresh. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They also take allergies very seriously here, and were able to offer good suggestions.
We love Big Catch! The sushi is meticulously made and the staff is warm and friendly. We first discovered them at the farmers market and was able to check out the new restaurant before covid.
Decor inside is sleek, minimalist and elegant. Feels high end but comfortable.
They put so much care into presentation. Even their takeout is aesthetically pleasing!
The Salmon Aburi is one of my favs!
Best sushi in town hands down and they are so adorable with the cute notes :)
Outstanding sushi, service and atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant!
We did take out and for the flower platter today. Excellent overall, excellent courteous customer service and the sushi overall was outstanding. We were especially pleased with the pressed sushi and the sushi rolls. We will go again!
I had such a fantastic experience ordering take out from here as a Celiac looking for a new safe sushi place! They were very informative over the phone, and were able to make many of their options completely gluten free! As my non-Celiac boyfriend and I were ordering together, they were very careful to clearly label my food vs. his, right down to the sauces! They even added a cute little personalized note that really made me feel valued as a customer. Will definitely be ordering from here again!
Delicious and artistically beautiful sushi. They know what they're good at and they do it very well! Dined inain and ordered takeatake out. Great service and amazing staff. Can be a bit on the pricey side, but worth the money!
So excitedvabout this opening; fantastic service and dinner. Creative without becoming overboard... Highly recommended! 💕💕💕
My girlfriend brought me here because she used to go to the stand in the farmer’s market all the time and would rave about how great it was, I’m happy to say it lived up to her hype.
Cozy little place with super friendly and courteous staff, the sushi is amazing and fairly reasonably priced. The drinks are also great, you gotta try the iced tea or the ginger ale. Our favorite sushi was the green halo and Jupiter rain, absolutely delicious!
Would definitely recommend and go back again.
I first went to big catch when they were still in the farmers market. I have always loved their unique sushi experience, and was thrilled when I learned they opened a restaurant. The staff always make me and my family feel welcome and relaxed, and I wouldn’t eat any other sushi after trying Big Catch’s. The presentation of the food is immaculate, the rolls are always served with homemade sauces. I would definitely recommend coming here!
Really fantastic lunch service. Really creative and delicious maki sushi. Superb presentation.
Been looking for a new favorite/go to sushi place in the south and I think I just found it. Even on door dash the meal was outstanding and they took the time to make sure every part of the order was perfect (fiance has a server avocado allergy they looked out for)
Excited for COVID restrictions to lift so we can come visit in person!
Best sushi I've ever had! Sure it's expensive but taste off the charts! 🤯
Great variety of sushi, tasty sashimi, delicious desserts, friendly attentive service and artful presentation. Should have taken pictures, but instead we just kept ordering another round. We had 15 different items off the menu and enjoyed them all. We were their for my daughter's birthday and they had a special presentation dessert with happy birthday and her name. Great night. Thanks to the staff !
Very nice sushi restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly. Presentation of food is excellent and very artistic. The takeout menu is varied and priced very competitively even with local grocery stores. If you're in the area and looking for a nicely priced sushi experience, then pop in and give it a try. Best sushi in Calgary.
Each piece of sushi is a masterpiece of flavour & design. Flavour combos are well-thought out & are also a refreshing change. And they have the friendliest staff! Glad to see that an awesome take out place has transitioned nicely into a full restaurant! (5/5)
The sushi rolls are definitely different and really delicious. The presentation of it awesome even sashimi comes served on ice. The staff are great for service and really good mood is set for dining in. I would definitely go again even though it is a little pricier side.
Really fresh, well made sushi. Too often are nigiri and aburi pieces too large and overpacked with rice, but their size is just right. Friendly staff and will definitely be going back.
I absolutely love this place. I live about 30 minutes away and it is worth the drive. This is the best Sushi in Calgary.
Got the recommendation from Google and it was a pleasant surprise. It's not a big place and not that easy to find. The place has a modern decor but with an authentic feel. Excellent friendly staff. But it's about the food, isn't? The sushi is fabulous. The tuna sashimi melts on your tongue. The flavours are intriguing and a treat to your mouth. Go and get also pleasantly surprised!
This is probably one of my favourite restaurants in Calgary. Firstly because they’re service is exceptional, everyone is always be kind and welcoming and super quick. Secondly, their sashimi is unbelievable. Incredibly priced for the quality of food you get. Lastly I’ve never had something there that I didn’t like. If you’re a sushi/sashimi fan you’ll love this place.
We chose this place because of the high ratings and it didn't disappoint. Service was exceptional and everyone was excellent. Obviously the entire staff takes pride in their work and service. We ordered a variety of rolls and every detail was outstanding. The presentation, quality and freshness was incredible. If you are looking for delicious quality and attention to detail then look no further. The origami crane with the bill is a lovely added touch.
Awesome Sushi spot. They started with humble beginnings in the Market on Macleod and were just voted best sushi town by Avenue. Highly recommend.
Amazing service the moment you walk into the door. I have a 10 month old and they were very accommodating which is really nice to see. They had plastic utensils, baby chopsticks, change table in the bathroom (surprisely not all "kids-friendly" places have this or they just have a slightly larger counter) and the staff even offered hot water to warm up the formula.
Now onto the food, we ordered two sets of the lunch special and it was a great way to sample a little of everything! Everything was delicious and exquisite and there's even options to swatch out certain items which is very accommodating! I will definitely be back.
Me and my friends are here every week for lunch. We can't get enough of the amazing sushi and rolls.
The staff are also very friendly and helpful, even though they are usually swamped with customers.
Ruby sky is one of their special rolls and it is so unbelievably tasty. The tuna is so fresh and flavourful with complimentary flavours in every bite. Everything I've ordered here has been very good. It's not a cheap sushi place, but you certainly get what you pay for. I recommend this place to anyone looking for well made, fresh, and creative sushi in Calgary.
Seriously the best sushi place in town. Everything is so simple but absolutely beautiful. The servers have great energy and the kitchen doesnt disappoint. The artwork with the sauces on each dish is mindblowing and even though you dont want to ruin it they all taste amazing. Overly impressed
I'm so happy with Big Catch that I've stopped looking for a better Sushi place. The sushi is very fresh, delightfully presented and the value is hard to beat. Their specialty roles are pretty interesting and tasty. You won't see a huge menu, but what they have is excellent. The staff have always been very friendly and reliably delivery a great dining experience.
Wow, this is some of the best sushi I've had in a while. Fresh, great flavour, and the service is top notch. Cannot recommend enough. 10/10, let's eat raw fish again.
Amazing quality!! They really changed my expectations of sushi. Plating is well thought out for enjoyment. Fusion deserts are delicious.
Great Place, Great Service, Great Sushi!
Recommend
It was really good. We ordered through door dash. I loved the personal touches with the notes. The only draw back was the price for what you got. I would order from them again.
One of the best sushi places in town with the most impeccable service. They have plenty of gluten free options on their menu, and will cut sushi rolls into smaller pieces for children. Their new location is very cozy and clean. We are very happy they moved!
Always amazing. Beyond friendly staff. The entire team is amazing. Presentation always is impressive. Flavor is amazing easily best Sushi in Calgary.
Wonderfully unique sushi restaurant with small bite size sushi. Came for a friends birthday (which the hostess asked for when we made the booking) and had a wonderful time. The staff is so attentive and for how picturesque the food came out, it came out quickly. Note that the special sushi pieces are small: My husband and I had ordered two special sushi plates, gyoza and a handful of nigiri and we're probably one special sushi plates shy of being full. They're beautiful, delicious and wished we ordered another so we could try more flavours. The dessert is economical (in comparison to all the other restaurants are charging these days), and small so we all gave those a try. Would definitely come again!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Staff is extremely courteous in Japanese fashion. The food was definitely prepared with lots of love and great attention to detail, just amazing presentation. The customer service was AAA+ and made us leave the restaurant with a giant smile!
A little gem here in the big city.
Really good sushi! One of my favourite places to get sushi. Definitely more on the expensive side. Expect to pay roughly 16 dollars a roll for their special rolls. The Yuzu Ginger Beer was also really good, albeit quite light ($9). Take out is dollar cheaper per roll, so would recommend takeout if you want the best value.
The BEST sushi we have ever had in Calgary. We decided to stop in because it’s right in our neighbourhood and will definitively be back. The servers and chefs are so friendly and welcoming and the sushi was to die for. Highly recommend the green halo roll and spicy miso soup.
Fantastic experience from start to finish. The sashimi was perfect, creamy, and exactly right thickness. The rolls were all unique and creative while not going over the top like a lot of places often do. The white chocolate desert was something else, very different but really refreshing and despite its small size very satisfying. I will definitely be coming back here again.
Their sushi is the closest you can get to Miku in Vancouver. Everything on the menu was done well, from the sashimi to the cocktails. The sushi was fresh, the flavour combinations were fun and delicious and the plates were beautifully arranged. The manager and staff are always so lovely and accommodating.
Amazing, passionate, friendly staff. Great tasting food with excellent presentation. A small gem hidden away.
I've gone back several times and the quality had never depleted. They went so far as to continue serving us past their closing time in the middle of their lunch. Probably the best restaurant staff in Calgary.
The sushi here is AMAZING, but more importantly, the staff are sooooo lovely. Everyone is so accommodating and friendly. I also have celiac and they can make most rolls gluten free. It's definitely my favorite sushi place.
Been coming here for years. Awesome sushi alway fresh, and a great price. Very friendly staff, always make sure you are enjoying your meal. This has to be some of the best sushi in town every single time I always come the rice is always so fresh and I find that is such a challenge for a lot of sushi places like I’ll go somewhere and the rice just seems dry or kind of moist but this is like perfect sushi rice and the great thing is the staff always remembers who you are and they always tend to personalize our orders towards us. Great place.
...
Update on the new location
All I can say is sushi done right. The display is amazing and everything on your plate is edible. Always leave full and happy. 😃
Really amazing customer service and overall it was a really good dining experience! I booked a reservation for my dad's birthday and they took down his name and had a birthday dessert with a customized note addressed to him at the end of the meal. Really impressed with little details such as the plating of the food and staff holding the door for you on the way out. The food was also excellent quality.
It's okay. Foods are good but it is expensive compare to similar sushi places.
Awesome customer service and amazing modern sushi rolls.
Everything is delicious. Everything is beautifully presented. Everyone there goes the extra mile to make dinner special.
Rolls are creative be sure to try at least one. The Magic Mushroom should not be missed! The house made ginger ale is refreshing.
Make a reservation so as not to be disappointed!
They do a really fantastic job at everything. They care. The food is delicious and everything is considered to make the food as enjoyable as possible when you get home. Dipping sauces are labelled and indicate what they're best for, etc. Job well done!
You are treated with care & attention here and the sushi is fresh, delicious, high quality.
I can't say enough about how wonderful Big Catch Sushi Bar is. From the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left we felt welcomed. Five stars isn't enough. The food is expertly prepared and arranged with such care. Presentation exquisite and the flavors were out of this world! We found our favorite place and will be coming back soon!
Wow 10/10 sushi, service and presentation! Would absolutely recommend!
-Food was very good
-Service was very friendly
-Food came out fast
-Ordered various Aburi sushi, they were all good
Absolutely delicious sushi. Friendly staff, creative menu and beautiful presentation.
Absolutely incredible experience! The sushi is some of the best I have had in Calgary and the service was incredible, you can tell all the staff are very passionate about this restaurant. Eat here, you won't be disappointed
OH MY GOODNESS this place is incredible! They have the friendliest staff I've ever encountered in a restaurant and it was so cute when they spoke Japanese with my friend. Oishiiii! The Wagyu beef special roll is an absolute MUST try. It just melts in your mouth. Chef's choice sashimi was life changing. And absolutely go for dessert! The creme brulée was divine!
Not for sushi purists as their sashimi and nigiri selection is limited but the rolls are inventive and presented spectacularly with great attention to detail and ingredients. They did have very fresh bluefin both times I've been, a rarity in Calgary, and priced very reasonably as well.
Amazing sushi restaurant. By far the best in Calgary.
I consider myself a sushi aficionado. Eaten at hundreds of places in Vancouver, Hawaii, and Michelin star restaurants in Japan. This surprising little restaurant has some of the most imaginative and exquisitely presented dishes I have ever experienced. Service is super friendly and efficient.
I and my wife love this place. It is a great option for a casual family, friends, couple weekend lunch. Though it's not fancy place, sushi lovers knows this place as you-will-never-get-dissapointed. They also offer some loyalty program. Big Catch Such is not the cheapest place in town, however meal sizes and overall value are very reasonable. Highly recommended.
Ordered take out from here and had amazing service and outstanding food. Likely the most creative sushi I’ve had in the city!
Sushi was good!
For Sushi I Order: Green Halo, Jupiter Rain, Spicy Tuna Roll, 3x Salmon, Tuna and Unagi nigiri. All was good in my opinion.
Really like the presentation. (colourful and fancy)
All sushi comes in all at once in one plate. (Kinda make me feel, that I didn't order enough) I prefer each sushi roll get its plate of it own. (but that whatever)
Wish there a bit more selection.
Big Catch Sushi Bar is located next to Tim Hortons.
Not traditional sushi but fresh and delicious.
We spent Father's Day here and if you're a fan of great food and excellent customer service, then you will definitely fall in love with this place. They serve fresh sashimi and the sushi here is made into perfection. I can't wait to come back here.
Amazing sushi!! And the service is excellent. Definitely recommend it!
Favorite sushi place ever!! Seriously. We went once and cant stop going back. Initially went because my roommate is celliac and we heard they cater well to gluten free options, and they truly do! You can get almost anything on their menu gluten free! The staff are so kind, they always go above and beyond. Been here about 7 times now and have never been disappointed!
We ordered two combo maki, two tempura and some gyoza and it was all perfectly prepared and packed for delivery. The gyoza and tempura were still very warm and crispy upon arrival. The maki combos were combined on a round takeout platter and attention was paid to presentation, hard to do on plastic! Great meal, awesome quality. Will certainly order again!
This is a very high quality restaurant! You get what you pay for and way more! The artistic cook who plates everything so amazingly is a very beautiful touch also. Started out small and has just blossomed after being found by some of us who can see/taste the quality and effort put into their food. Very knowledgable about Gluten free also. #1 for quality that I have found in alberta!
I bought a sushi platter for 4 for my bday party , everyone enjoyed it ! And this is the best sushi I’ve ever had in Calgary ! If you like Japanese cuisine definitely should come to this store they’ll give you great services and warm greeting !
Stunningly beautiful and very tasty aburi-style sushi - and very inventive flavour combinations as well! They also have some really nice appetizers and drinks (particularly if you like yuzu), but the nigiri sushi doesn't seem to be up to the same standard as their aburi (the one time we ordered some). Definitely one of my favourite sushi places in the city!
As close to perfect as you will ever find.
Blown away by the best customer service in town. So friendly.
Food is amazing. Clean fresh and exciting variations on all things sushi.
#1 in Calgary by a mile.
My boyfriend and I came here to eat the other day and we were both absolutely blown away by their amazing customer service!!! From the minute we walked in, everyone was so friendly. They even made something for me that I asked for and wasn’t on the menu. Our wait wasn’t long at all. When we received our food, we were impressed by the effort put into the display. It was just so amazing all around. Even after we paid, our server walked to the door and held it open for us. Best customer service I’ve ever had at any restaurant by far! We will be back :)
Best sushi in Calgary. Amazing staff, service and display.
Amazing sushi and even better staff! Despite it being busy, a man offered to teach us origami which was a nice touch. Overall it was a great experience and I’m happy to give them business.
One of the best sushi places in Calgary. They have a great atmosphere and even better service. The owner is one of the nicest people I have met, he always remembers my family and me.
Absolutely AMAZING! IMHO: the best sushi place in Calgary I have visited so far. Pretty basic interior, but very clean, and the food is AWESOME!
Also, VERY friendly staff.
The most unique and tasteful sushi in Calgary! The settings are works of art beside tasting simple amazing! Come for the lunch box special as well, super fresh always!
My wife and I decided to try big catch out, we were seriously impressed. We are not sushi experts by any stretch but everything was fantastic. The presentation was remarkable, the flavor combinations was truely as other reviews have stated masterful. We will be coming back for sure, would reccomend in a heartbeat
Can't say enough positive things about this place starting with the quality of food, presentation, and service. Easily my favorite sushi place in Calgary.
Minor gripe last time I was there, and while I should be more attentive, it would have been helpful if the server pointed out that gratuity was included already. Without realizing I ended up tipping them again.
The food was amazing and beautiful, and when I let the staff know I was celiac they took care of me, let me know what I could have. Brought out gluten free soy sauce, and their miso is gluten free so I can have the miso soup and other things with miso. The presentation was beautiful and immaculate and the sushi was the best tasting that I've had in the city. Can't rate it more highly.
Very friendly and courteous staff. Even the bar thanked me after my order! The special sushi options have lots of variety of flavors. Definitely going back
Absolutely loved everything about this place. Went on a Saturday night and it was very busy (I would recommend making a reservation) but the staff were all very cheerful and friendly. They could not have been more helpful.
Some of the best rolls I have ever had. And the creme brûlée was amazing.
I could not recommend this place enough. Especially if you have an allergy. They can make 90% of their menu gluten free.
Can’t wait to go back!!
This place offers some of the best sushi in Calgary, it shines on the quality of the ingredients, and the originality of the presentation, and food design! The staff is friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, customer service is impeccable
This has quickly become one of my favorites sushi spots as I have been here a few times over the past few months. I visit at lunch and I have got the lunch special/bento box. It’s a great variety and creative in the contents and presentation. I will continue visiting!!
Excellent food and service!! Best sushi we have ever had and we eat a lot of sushi. This was even better than our favourite spot in Vancouver! Not to be missed!
This is where you go if you want a more elevated, artistic and creative take on sushi. The menu includes few appetizers, sashimi options, a simple selection of nigiri, and a good selection of artisanal rolls. The food is high quality; however, it is relatively pricier because the portions are smaller. I particularly appreciated the presentation of the appetizers and the sushi (see pics I posted for reference) as well as the service. The service was exceptional and reminded me of the hospitality I experienced in Japan.
One of the best sashimi and sushi places in South Calgary, that we have dined at. Fresh ingredients and one can taste the difference, right away.
We started with the Miso soup and a side of Endame, ideal on a hot spring day. The Chef's Sashimi was fresh (and succulent), the Iron Goddess was good too; and a sharp flavor contrast to the sashimi. Good presentation, great color; but the portion sizes could have been larger (for the price).
We did not intend to have dessert, but were glad that we changed our mind; the Ginger-Rosemary Creme Brulee and Matcha Panna Cotta were just divine.
Dining at the Big Catch does not come cheap, but we would recommend that one gives them a try. We will be back for sure, just not as often as we might want to (given the prices).
The food was very good and the staff are amazing and courteous
By far the best sushi I've had in Calgary. The service was fantastic and friendly. The presentation was something else entirely. I'll be going back until I have tried everything on the menu.
i tried Big Catch when they were in the farmers market and was already impressed by the presentation and taste of the oishi rolls. At their permanent restaurant location, their presentation of the dishes were even more impressive (I have never seen so many people snap or instagram their plates!!). The sashimi and nigiri tastes very fresh. The rolls does not feel heavy and it has unique flavour combinations. I really liked the "Tokyo Fog" drink. Looking forward to returning here many times.
Excellent sushi considering the food court setting. My 911 roll was great; large portions of tuna and salmon, and the rice was nearly perfect. The dynamite roll was good also, but their special rolls are more interesting.
The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to price; I paid $18 for 9 piece special roll and 6 piece dynamite. This is about the same as most sushi restaurant with dining room, but this business has waaaay less overhead with only a booth and 3 staff. Poor value considering the fact that you're eating in a crowded noisy food court, but good food.
From the sashimi, to the rolls and miso soup, everything is delicious with great staff to top it off.
If you live in Calgary and haven’t had Big Catch, go now! Fresh, beautifully plated and delicious. The restaurant itself is minimally decorated and reminiscent of higher end Japanese establishments. A bit pricey for the portion but well worth it.
The service is AWESOME and they're open until 7pm which I didn't realize. The sushi is definitely the best I've had in Calgary. They sometimes run out of stuff but then again that means it's fresh. Probably best to go on a Thursday.
This restaurant is very unique.
Their rolls are delicious and always beautifully presented . Their drinks (Yuzu lemonade and homemade ginger ale) are awesome as well.
The staffs are great and very friendly.
Our go to spot for sushi in Calgary.
Reasonably priced and always fresh. Custom service is second to none and they are always busy with a lot of regulars which is a testament to their consistently high quality food.
My first time trying Big Catch and I loved it. Next level Sushi rolls. I tried the Green Halo and Magic Mushroom Rolls. Both very different ends of the palette but a great combination to try. I definitely recommend trying this place and look forward to trying them again.
Saw the reviews on google and stopped in as I am always looking for great sushi. Big Catch did not disappoint! Excellent staff, presentation, and definitely the best sushi I have had in Calgary. Must try!
It was good:)
This restaurant plate was cute.
This is one of my favorite sushi place in town. The presentation, the quality of food ingredients and the customer service. It is quite a pleasant experience every time.
What a wonderful surprise!
Big Catch Sushi is located in the Market on MacLeod. Given the market is slightly run down, this is not a place you would expect to get good seafood. Well, I was wrong. Big Catch not only serves up delicious seafood freshly prepared, but it's presented beautifully like a work of art. You can really tell that they take pride in their food.
On this first visit I shared two combos: the veggie and the spicy. A combo comes with three rolls of six pieces each for less than $15. Each off the rolls was perfectly sized, tightly wrapped and stuffed full of seafood and/or avocado. On the platter, the sushi rolls were served with amble ginger, wasabi and extra sauce dots flavoured with herbs, turmeric and spice.
With the market closing in October, 2018, Big Catch does have to move. Fortunately, they are in the process of securing a new space. I'm looking forward to being able to visit them again in a new space with (hopefully) longer service hours.
There is so much to love about this place. The staff, the atmosphere, the amazing and creative food - basically the entire experience. Each dish is not only visually beautiful but absolutely delicious. All the dishes seem to have their own unique combination of flavors. My absolute favorite is their lunch time bento boxes with their amazing take on panna cotta.
New favourite sushi restaurant in town. The rolls are awesome. Both lunch and dinner menu is great, plus very friendly service. Highly recommend the house made ginger ale.
You don't definitely don't come here for the value, but the food was delicious and the presentation was top notch!
Rolls here are both beautiful and absolutely delicious! We've never ever been disappointed here before. The owner is super friendly and provides great service despite being in a farmers market. If you like a bit or spicy, the 911 rolls are a must :D
Tried big catch for the first time today. The presentation of the food was beautiful! Flavors were well balanced and delicate. We had the red coral roll which had a very buttery texture and unique taste from the foie gras and avocado. The agedashi tofu was dressed in a housemade mushroom sauce, it was crispy and chewy and tender all at the same time. I would have given this sushi bar 5 stars if there was a wider selection.
Best sushi in Calgary by far. Attention to detail and presentation is amazing. The staff is attentive and genuine. High quality food and drinks like the house made ginger ale.
We order from Big Catch way too often, but it's so delicious we can't help it! The service is AMAZING, everyone always has a smile on their face. All the fish they use tastes very fresh (difficult to find in Calgary), the rolls are delicious (especially the tropic rush) and the ebi sushi mayo is awesome. Big Catch is by far our favourite sushi restaurant in Calgary.
Best sushi in Calgary and an absolutely BEAUTIFUL location. The space is perfect for a cozy date night, and the decor is gorgeous. Not a detail overlooked. I wish I visited sooner!
Friendly attentive staff. Beautifully crafted sushi.
Best sushi place we have ever been. Amazing combinations of flavours, it was simply delicious. Very friendly place, we will definitely go again!
Always excellent service and amazing fresh food. I dont eat seafood or seaweed so they make mine with a soy wrap and veggies. So delicious! We don't live close by but its worth the trip just for the smiling gracious service and beautiful presentation of dishes.
This is one of the best if not the best place in calgary to get sushi. me and my wife have been twice now. Once for dinner and once for lunch. The service is unlike anything ive seen at any resturant. And the sushi my wife and had we could have eaten the pork braised sushi for hours. Thank you once again for another great meal we will be back.
Best sushi me or my wife have ever had and we used to live in bc. The amount of effort that was evident in each piece was honestly astonishing. The staff were genuinely the most cheerful people I think I've ever seen in a restaurant. May very well be the best restuarant I have ever been too. They all worked together to make the best dining experience me or my wife have ever had. They even made us an oragami crane at the end and rushed to hold the door open for us as we left. I cant say enough good about this place.... just wow!
The owner of this place is extremely kind, efficient and friendly. He chats with customers despite being slammed with business. The food was excellent and better than more expensive downtown establishments. They have unique menu items and fair pricing. This is now my go to sushi spot!
This is definitely some of the best Sushi in town.
The rolls are probably the best I have tried in Calgary. Other than rolls, the rest of the menu is fairly limited though. Small sashimi selection and no nigiri.
Also the special rolls are significantly better than the regular ones.
Best sushi/sashimi in Calgary hands down. Impeccable resentation and quality on every plate of food. Service was absolutely fantastic and you could tell how excited the staff was about the food they served.
Customer service was exceptional, from the moment we stepped in, to the moment we walked out... literally...the gentleman working there thanked us and opened the door for us as we left. Big Catch sushi is a unique experience compared to other sushi restaurants in Calgary.
The Best Sushi in Calgary, bar none. Wonderful staff. Unbelievable sushi. Make sure you make a reservation. This place is small and fills up.
Great sushi and wonderful service! I lived in Japan for over 6 years and haven't been able to enjoy sushi anywhere in Calgary, until I found BIG CATCH SUSHI!!
Thank you!
Great service, awesome food, great find! Staff super friendly and food is fresh
This place is awesome. Located in a cool little market right off MacLeod. The guy who took my order at the counter was super helpful and made some recommendations on the specialty rolls. The 911 and the Bronco, both were super fresh and really tasty. I will be back whenever I am in the mood for Sushi.
After hearing great things about Big Catch, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. I had messaged them on Instagram to ask if they were going to be open, as it was a stat holiday on the day we wanted to visit. They said yes, and were kind enough to help me book a reservation through IG! However, when I arrived, they didn't have any record of the reservation :( There was a free table in the corner, but I didn't like how it felt super cramped. Oh well.
I started off with a sangria, which was okay but not as sweet as I'd like. We ordered the Chef's Sashimi to start (~$24) which comes with 12 pcs of sashimi - we had a mix of salmon (4 pieces), tuna (4 pieces), hamachi (2 pieces) and bluefin tuna (2 pieces). All of the sashimi was super fresh! (And I was born and raised in Vancouver, so you know I'm picky about my sushi). The presentation for all of the food we ordered was on point! Made for a great experience, and also great Instagram photos (haha). For rolls this is what we ordered:
Ruby Sky - bluefin tuna - I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce (it was very salty). I would probably pass on this one unless you're a huge fan of the umami flavours.
Autumn Haze - a tasty option for salmon aburi, but the green halo was our favourite!
Green Halo - your classic salmon aburi sushi. Was one of our favourites of the night, we liked the spicy kick.
Passion Sunrise - surprisingly one of my favourite rolls of the night, despite not being an aburi roll. Would reorder again!
Dynamite Roll - your standard stuff, my boyfriend wanted this one
I really regret not ordering the Iron Goddess (wagyu beef aburi). Next time! We couldn't resist trying one of their desserts and went with the Matcha White Chocolate Panna Cotta ($2.75). The dessert is very cheap by dessert standards but was a small portion. There was a lot of intense matcha flavour, if you're into that!
One thing that I will note is that so many people raved about the excellent service but unfortunately I did not have the same experience. No one came to refill our water and service was only mediocre. Nonetheless, the food was tasty so I would return! It is a little more on the expensive side, but definitely worth it for a special occasion or simply, a treat yourself kind of meal!
This is the best sushi place. They know how to make sushi. Properly cook the rice with proper amount of rice. Big catch fish is much better than any other Japanese restaurant in Calgary. Thank you.
Excellent. Service and food was top notch. I should have taken a picture of the outstanding sashimi presentation. Prepared by true professionals. Currently holding my top spot in Calgary. Nice work Big Catch!
Best sushi in Calgary. Non, is a fantastic customer server, every time I stop by he knows me by name. Fresh sushi that is always great! No complaints.
I was very impressed by the presentation and level of service. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I would definitely come back again.
Fantastic little sushi place in the Market on MacLeod. Part owner Non, is one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet and the team has a variety of rolls from your California style, to traditional, and their own creations. All great quality and at reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
Love their sushi, the service is always great. Too bad they don't do dine in anymore, but we always order from here when we feel like having some sushi.
Went there with a friend and was extremely impressed! We had the sashimi special and it was wonderfully designed and tasted incredible. The staff was unparalleled, and incredibly welcoming. Can't wait to go back!
Sushi served on a beautiful plate of art, service was top notch, they made every customer feel appreciated. Seating area was small and limited so it's better to reserve early to avoid lineup
Big Catch sushi is one of those gems. For years it has been one of the SW’s if not calgary’s Highest rated sushi spots. And that’s while they were operating out of the modest Calgary Farmers Market, soon to be leveled to build condos.
They are now located in the mall next to the London condo’s with save on foods on Macleod train between heritage and Southland drive.
The new restaurant is a beautiful upgrade and I feel the menu has slightly evolved. The classics are still there but the new items today showed us some new flavors I haven’t tased in sushi before. The fish was excellent quality, definitely better than most in town.
Congratulations Big Catch on moving on in style! We’ll see you soon
Father's day lunch at Big Catch Sushi Bar was a simple pleasure worthy of appreciation.
We started with the garlic ra-yu infused spicy miso soup and seaweed salad to open the palate's flavour centres to the umami tastes. Followed by a warm-cold pairing of crispy gyoza and bluefin (red) tuna sashimi. As for our feature rolls, the yam tempura provided the necessary vegetable crunch and God of War was an excellent demonstrated of the skill in this kitchen. Washing it all down with the sushi bars own personal Sapporo variation and ending with their seasonal sorbet.
The interior design of the restaurant was wholesome and the service, superior. A young woman at the table beside my father and I had come to dine alone and I couldn't help but think of the slice of life anime Wakakozake Reviews. Striving, as this woman may have been, for the perfect food experience. I think I will follow her example for my next trip.
Best sushi place in Calgary hands down! Beautiful presentation on dine in and it looks just as good take out. A must try!
I liked it! Nice place to support a local business. The cashier was quite friendly the day that I went. However, being so, they are a bit expensive for what you get. Although as you can see in the pictures, the presentation is one of the best I've ever seen.
BTW for those who get lost, it is inside the barnyard-like market.
Love their unique dishes. Their in house made ginger shanty and rosemary ginger creme brulee were amazing adds to a sushi dinner. Sushi was fresh and tasty too.
Great service! Came here on my birthday and the two servers gave the best service I've had in awhile. Very polite staff, including the chefs.
Definitely would recommend to friends and family.
Big Catch creates beautiful, fresh and great tasting sushi. Their rolls are unique and very good - such as any of the torched sushi rolls. It's great for grabbing a bite to eat at the farmers market or for parties / events. Their plating is beautiful and unique.
Best Sushi in Calgary! Being from Vancouver it was hard to find good sushi around Calgary but we came across this place on google and the reviews match what they say! Will be coming back again soon!!!
Hard working staff and amazing sushi. New to the city and haven't found our go to sushi place, until now! Can't wait to order again!
Absolutely amazing meal, great service, kind of pricey but yummy
One of the better Sushi restaurants in Calgary and very welcoming and warming service! Fresh and tasty! Great for intimate dinners or small gatherings!
I googled "best sushi" and this was at the top of the list. I have never ordered from here. Fresh, creative sushi. Best Miso. While waiting for my take out order, I was given a cup of green tea. Lovely staff, I think this is our new sushi joint
Big Catch, in the Farmers Market, offers some of Calgary's most focused, quality sushi. Plating, presentation, ingredients and service consistently exceed farmer's market norm and the norm for most Calgary sit down sushi restaurants. Great place for an afternoon date.
This place is my go too spot for sushi and I thinks it's on par with many high end (and definitely more expensive) sushi in Calgary.
Owner just told me that the farmers market was sold and a new development will take its place.
He also indicated they signed a lease for a restaurant just down the road on MacLeod so now we don't have to wait for the farmer's market to open to eat some quality sushi.
Highly recommend this place.
Multi-award winning sushi, where artistry, energy and quality are actually the rules and the dedication of two brothers and their team.
A sushi bar that hits far far above it's weight, it's a local gem that offers simply great creative sushi to eat in, take out or for larger catered events. They're open late even after the Market on Macleod is closed.
Best sushi in Calgary, hands down. Beautiful sushi, fresh fish, and super friendly staff. These guys are so nice to deal with and always go above and beyond for their customers!
Best sushi I have found in Calgary. Presentation amazing, like art. Servers have a very positive attitude, quick and attentive.
Without a doubt the best sushi in town. Always fresh, beautifully presented and authentic (Japanese) with excellent service. We never eat sushi else where.
Friendly staff, fresh food, amazing sushi art🤩
Big Catch was beyond amazing. Delicious food and an extremely nice staff who really cared about our overall experience. Very willing to work with a gluten allergy. Would recommend this spot again and again!
Absolutely amazing food!
The display is beautiful, the staff are friendly and kind... the made in house gingerale and lemonades were 👌👌👌... and the ginger creme brulee.. was SOO good.
It is a bit expensive BUT, it is worth the experience. I would definitely go back.
The most authentic Japanese sushi experience I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. Superb food and service all around!
We were looking for a new sushi place and Big Catch exceeded our expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was amazing! Can not wait to go back soon!
It's been a while since I've been here but I can still recall that the service was amazing.
Big Catch is a cozy little sushi restaurant that serves absolutely delectable food. Everything was fantastic.
Best sushi 🍣 in Town. Creative original rolls, great friendly staff. Best customer service at any restaurant in Calgary. My go-to sushi place.
Have celiac disease and they are so careful to ensure I get my food and have no issues with my food. Best sushi ever and some very different selections. Love the staff and extreme clean restaurant.
Delicious sushi, nice people, excellent customer service. My husband's and my favorite sushi in the city.
Since Sushi Club closed down (😭), been looking for a place comparable and my search has come to an end thanks to Big Catch Sushi!! I'll be a returning customer due to the sheer quality of sushi, presentation and customer service!! I'll be bringing my friends!! Love you guys!!💕🍣😁
Absolutely amazing experience from the waiters who made the visit unique to the chefs who created beautiful, delicious plates. Super fresh fish and worth every penny. Highly recommended!
The only reason we go to the kingsland farmers market and I wish they stay there forever! Fresh, delicious sushi at a good price. The rice to filling ratio on the rolls is the stuff of dreams.
There are really good places to eat, really good places to be and really good people to be around. Then there is this gem of a group! What a gift. Absolute quality presented beautifully and it sounds crazy, but if you haven't had the Creme Brulee............oh, sorry, I got lost in love there for a sec!
Very friendly staff and sushi was decent
Good sushis, fresh. Staff is awesome. There are probably 5 of them who told me bye when I left. I just find the prices were a bit high...
After seeing so many fantastic reviews we had to check out Big Catch while in Calgary. It lived up to the expectations! Everything was delicious, service was amazing, and presentation was beautiful!
Explosion of awesomeness in my mouth! Wow, didn't expect that from the Farmer's Market. Fantastic Dragon Roll and the customer service was top notch. These guys went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our meal. Big kudos to the boys behind the counter.
Absolutely amazing experience. Service was fantastic, the restaurant is beautiful and the food was to die for! Highly recommend. It did get busy around 6 on a Friday night, would suggest making a reservation.
Sashimi is so fresh, rolls are unique and delicious, and service is impeccable. Easily some of the best sushi in town!
Amazing food and the staff is so friendly. Everything we had from rolls to sashimi and sushi was so good. We will be back for sure!
Best sushi I've ever had! Best in town, for sure. Their presentation is so beautiful it looks like art!
The best sushi place in Calgary, maybe one of the best I have ever been!
Fantastic food and service!
Amazing!
The best sushi in Calgary. Been eating here since they originated as a small sushi bar at the former Market at Macleod. Nothing much else to say.
One of the best sushi places in Calgary. Fresh fish and great presentation and affordable price. Only problem is that they are only open a few days a week.
Overall one of the best Japanese restaurants in Calgary. It's hard to find the same level of quality and service elsewhere!
Great sushi and so fresh!
Great hole in the wall sushi. Beautiful presentation and reasonable prices. Super friendly staff top pick for this area of calgary not as good as Kabuku tho but it's close.
Excellent food, excellent service. One of the few restaurants in the city which truly deserve 5 stars. I have seen them grow from a kiosk in Kingsland farmers market to this new location. Keep up the excellent work.
Amazing service, fantastic sake by the glass, food was top notch and different then many cookie cutter sushi places in yyc. Seriously one of the best in the city, make time to come here.
Quality sushi variety backed by consistent and professional service. We love this place!
Service and quality were amazing. New location is modern and plenty of parking.
Great sushi and very good service. Used to visit when they were located in Kingsland Market. But their new location is perfect.
Awesome experience. Sushi was incredible and the staff provided the best service I've had in Calgary. I'll be back many many times!
This is hands down the best sushi in Calgary. The fish is the freshest, and the presentation is very creative.
The food and service was exceptional, food tasted delicous and the service was next level, staff were very polite and eager to help! The restaurant is very affordable. Try this sushi!
Food is exceptional both in taste and presentation! The staff is exceptionally friendly and super passionate about the food they're serving. The space is pretty small though so I do recommend a reservation. I would definitely return!
Old place was great haven't tried the new place as a sit down. Takeout is still the same, fresh yummy and affordable for Calgary. Would recommend you try as they should have any restaurant opening issues sorted. Friendly staff.
This is, by far, my favourite sushi restaurant in Calgary. The food is amazing, so inventive AND delicious. My kids love it here too :D
Excellent sushi, fresh, quick service and super friendly! Gotta try the special mushroom roll!
Amazing service. Unbelievably good sushi. I can't wait to come back
Hands down the best sushi of my life. Consistently amazing. Thank you for such an incredible experience every time I come.
Ordered a platter. Everything tasted fresh like usual.
They are always pleasant.. price is decent, food is outstanding.
The sashimi always tastes so fresh and delicious. Seems to me they really take pride in what they serve.
My bf ordered a couple platters for take out for my birthday. As usual, the food was presented beautifully and tasted great!
Super friendly service, fresh & delicious sushi.
I really don't know why people rated it so high- in my opinion, Li-ao sushi in Bridlewood has the same quality and tasty sushi but for a considerably cheaper price. But yeah, the sushi is very tasty I can't say it's not.
Probably the best Sashmi I've had in Alberta. We ordered sashimi and rolls. Fresh, affordable and very tasty. Big Catch is my new fav!
This place was awesome! The food was reasonably priced and very very delicious. The servers were polite and accommodating. The sushi was very fresh and plated well.
Great presentation, good quality of sashimi, good desserts of perfect single person size. Very interesting and tasty drinks.
Absolutely bomb. They're so attentive to the customer's needs that the server saw me trying to Shazam the song playing at the moment and showed me their playlist.
Also the Wagyu sushi was to die for.
Great Quality and Presentation. Will be back.
First time leaving a Google review because this place is truly legendary in both quality of food and customer experience. To give an insight into how considerate the servers were - they waited to serve our food to not disturb our selfie time.
Excellent service I ever had in a restaurant. The sushi were delicious and the presentation is spectacular. Highly recommended l
Best sushi in Calgary! First time trying it, will absolutely be back! Phenomenal service
Definitely a must-visit. The food was phenomenal, a great balance between classy and simple, 100% fresh and tasty. The staff helpful and kind. In-house drinks.
Best sushi place ever!! Super friendly and engaged staff that makes you feel at home. 20/10.
Excellent food and service!! It's always the same people working and they are super friendly and the sushi is consistently one of the best we tried in the city!
This place is tasty and they put great showmanship into all the plates!! Staff are super nice!!
Go here!!
It's a little pricey but worth it!!
Also miso soup is good!!

Nice sushi that was very visually appealing. The edible flowers were a delightful touch. Attentive and timely service.
The best sushi in Calgary! Their rolls are so tasty and one of a kind ideas. Delicious!!
Really was a wonderful place. They were so kind to myself and my husband. We are some of the most amazing food there and I will happily be back as many times as I can.
Excellent sushi, great service, nice presentation, very friendly atmosphere. Will go back again a nd you should too.
Great food! Fresh and tasty!!!! One of my favorite sushi places in the area.
Fresh!!! Yummy!!!
Bit expensive, but worth it.
Amazing experience! Sushi was displayed impressively and all of the recipes were original and the ones we tried were delicious 😋
Great tasting sushi with thoughtful presentation
Their Miso soup is delicious! The staff are very friendly. I recommend if you are in the area!
Not only is it one of the best sushi restaurants in Calgary, their prices are much lower than anywhere else! Definitely recommend!!
Great new location off McLeod. Service was fast and friendly and the sushi was tasty. Many gluten free options!
Fresh and tasty rolls, good service and fair pricing. The presentation is especially nice, with edible flowers and designs with the sauces
Big Catch has been our go-to sushi restaurant for years. Their new location is great and the sushi continues to be reliably excellent.
This place is amazing! Great food and wonderful service.
The special rolls were very tasty. Service was really good! I'd highly recommend this place. I will be back the next time in in Calgary.
The sushi is delicious and fresh, the people and service are amazing, and the ambience is eclectic and relaxing. My favorite place in the city!
Big Catch has by far the best sushi in Calgary. Quality of food is superb and service is impeccable!
Great sushi. I usually take out when I order from this place and have yet to dine in but the sushi is very good.
First time eating here. They just moved to this location from Market on Macleod. Great sushi and amazing service. Restaurant is small but cozy.
Out of the way place but very good sushi. Service was excellent. Worth a try and I'll be back.
Some of the nicest staff! Sushi is terrific and the experience was very pleasant. Will come again!
Best sushi in Calgary. Hands down. Friendliest employees. Just go. You won’t be disappointed.
Always good food and very friendly staff. Big Catch is one of my favorite Japanese restaurant in Calgary!
We showed up with out a reservation and even though they were very busy they fit us in. The staff was very friendly some of the best service I have ever had and the food was amazing. It's on the expensive side but I would definitely go back.
Best sushi in Calgary for sure. The special rolls are soooo delicious and the presentation is perfect. Wasabi Dragon? Check! Wasabi Darth Vader? Check! Wasabi Owl? You betcha.
Big Catch has it going on! Delicious food, awesome service, 30 below and they held the door for us on our way in and out. Super dining experience!
Great service, presentation, and quality of sushi. So glad to have a reliable place near home.
Incredible fresh and delicious sushi! Top 3 in Calgary for sure!
One of, if not the, best in the city. Presentation is beautiful. Service is dynamite. Sushi is amazing.
Delicious! Great service. Creative dishes that taste amazing. They made a lovely dessert sorbet that was unexpected
i was lookin for a place to eat . found this on the nearby restaurants. i can see why this place is rated so highly . good friendly service . it has a wonderful experience. you have to go see for yourself. Food was delicious
Went for sushi Friday with the family and we really enjoyed this place. Nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly.
Best sushi spot in Calgary by far.
One of the better spots I’ve eaten sushi anywhere actually
Best sushi in Calgary! Always fresh, fantastic presentation, and great, friendly service!
My favourite sashimi in the city, always friendly, excellent service and always super flavourful.
Probably one of the best sushi places in Calgary and great price! On par with even Vancouver sushi! Delicious!!!
Big Catch offers quality sushi and sashimi in Calgary. Highly recommended, will definitely be back!!
Big Catch is a home run. You get awesome attention to detail in your meals and great service all "rolled up" (yes pun intended) in the fast casual, cozy atmosphere of a farmer's market.
Very good sushi and great presentation. Wish they were open later and were located outside the farmers market but the sushi makes up for it
This is probably the best sushi in Calgary. Phenomenal fish and rice
Excellent sushi, always fresh. Great service! Will go back again, was there last week :)
Amazing service and the fish was yummy and fresh tasting. Really recommend anyone visiting !! Presentation is on point. You will not be disappointed.
Ridiculously good sushi!!! Love this place and the owners!! Best sushi in Calgary 😊
Great sushi rolls, one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city
Wonderful presentation, great food, service was excellent. Will be moving to their own location soon so we don't have to wait until the weekends!
Amazing sushi and some of the best customer service I've experienced in all of Calgary so far!!!
Been coming here for a while and recently they changed their Cali rolls to crab and cucumber instead of avocado :( bring back the avo please!!
Very high review however it’s a bit disappointed. No noodles and hot meals, sushi rice were a bit too much vinegar, rice a little bit undercooked.
The Blue fin Toro nigiri tastes like heaven and I’m NOT exaggerating. Must try!!!
Some of the freshest sushi in YYC. Presentation is so good you feel slightly bad about eating their art.
Great sushi, but it's the staff that shine the most! Always friendly and happy to see you.
Great quality fish and beautiful presentation. One of the best sushi place in Calgary
Really great service, great people, and great food. One of the best sushi place ever been to.
I can’t imagine that somebody has poor experience here.
They deserve NO.1 sushi place in calgary.
I appreciate all their efforts.
Beautiful space and exceptional staff. Sushi is artfully plated and always fresh.
The reviews are so accurate... the sushi here is so fresh, beautifully presented, and the servers are so friendly. I will definitely come back!
best quality sushi in Calgary!
Such great sushi ....beautifully presented!! My number one sushi stop in Calgary.
Good place. One of a kind sushi place. They have to downsize thier serving bowls though 👌👌
We had a great experience. Service was wonderful from start the finish. Food was delightful although portions were on the small side.
Fantastic sushi with excellent friendly staff. Highly recommend big catch if you like sushi.
