Bartholomew's Public House's Reviews and comments
We went to Bartholomew’s on a Thursday night when they had a musical bingo going on. We weren't there from the beginning to participate, nevertheless enjoyed the music and the vibe. As for food and drinks, I only tried nachos which was reasonable, and my cocktail was pretty good. Our server was also super nice. It was an enjoyable experience overall.
Decent Irish pub, food were not bad, decore is very British and retro!
What a gem. An expected pub experience. We were walking back to our hotel and saw a happy hour sign. We popped in and enjoyed the the house white wine and sparkling, at $5.75 a glass and the house-made chip and French onion dip for $7. What an incredible deal! Service was great, from being seated to taking our order and checking in on what we ordered. Highly recommend. That dip though. Get the dip. Get the house-made chips and French onion dip.
A proper pub. Great drinks and yummy eats.
Myself and my friend were walking by and popped in for a quick drink. We thought it was shut down. The staff was great and drinks were cold. We'll mostly come back and have some more drinks and some food. She and I enjoyed Bartholomew's
I got the nachos double meat. Worth it, lots of cheese and delicious
Actually really nice food and a great little pub.
Feels like you are in Ireland or Scotland when you are in this comfortable, neighborhood pub. Great service, the staff are all very friendly. Although the patio is currently closed, it's also a great place to hang out . Menu is good, but a bit limited right now (although we all found something delicious). The fried bread is yummy! They do make some amazing cocktails and have a great selection of beer. Generally able to get a table as this is a very large pub that still manages to feel cozy.
One of the best fish and chips that I ate in my life. Lovely stuff with great fast service.
Best fish and chips in Victoria, maybe all of Canada.
Superb Irish pub! Very cool spacious atmosphere. Excellent food! Great drink deals...especially on Monday. Which is happy hour all day?! Love this place.
Thank you Bart
Awesome staff, good food and we were laughing our butts off
The bartenders are awesome! Great atmosphere and service. Fabulous cocktails!
What a great place. Perfect selection of food and enough to choose from. It was very crowdy, but we found a nice booth for the 4 of us. Prices are alright, service is great.
Great service, tasty food, and decent prices. Though, personally I was a bit disappointed with the amount of vegetables served on the side of the bangers and mash. Only three pieces of broccoli and three pieces of the seasonal vegetables.
Great wings, great people, amazing staff. Best watering hole around.
Sometimes, when you go to a restaurant underneath a hotel, you'd expect the food to be of a lower standard than most places. I am extremely happy to say that Bart's defies expectations. Sure, you won't find Michelin-star food here, but so what? Sometimes you want good, honest, fresh, *tasty* food and that where Bart's gets the serious points. Look at the photos. Those onion rings were fresh, hot and crunchy - score! The chicken burger was similarly fresh, none of the slightly soggy sensation was found here, the kind you'd get where the chicken had been left out; this was piping hot and delightfully crunchy. The beers were also great, with nothing too heavy or cloying. Can recommend the pilsners and the amber ale. Think it's called Race Rocks but I've drunk rather a bit and it's a little hazy.
That aside, to summarise: if you're looking for somewhere with seriously tasty fresh food, check out Bart's. Seriously impressive fare, and my heartfelt thanks to the wait staff and the chefs!
This place has a friendly and casual vibe. Stopped in later on a Friday evening for a light meal and was surprised to see relatively few patrons. Service was friendly and fast, but I wondered why they had the host chosen seating in effect; seems to detract from the flow of a pub.
Selection of beers was decent. I'll continue to come here when I'm in Victoria.
EDIT: (I don't seem o be able to reply to replies.) Good to hear that the host is a temporary thing. Sorry if it sounded like a harsh criticism. espeically now that I understand the purpose. My bad.
Had a very lovely non traditional Christmas Eve dinner at @bartspub with live music. We started with this epic cheese board. WOW. The platting was very impressive. The food itself was good but nothing outstanding - standard fair of cheeses, nuts, dried fruit, antipasto, pickles, roasted garlic and mustard. And they did make it vegetarian instead of the standard charcuterie offering. Hubby did get the turkey dinner since we were not doing one for xmas. Came with stuffing, mashed potatoes, veg and cranberry sauce. A very traditional meal, comfort food and delicious. I had the black bean burger, not so traditional but good nonetheless with side of veg. And the whole reason we went was so hubby could try the sticky toffee pudding. Good, not spectacular but still forced it down ;) Ordered the ice cream not realizing it also came with a pile of whip cream!
I did contact ahead to see if they could do oil free fries and they did say yes but getting there they wouldn’t so they swapped, for an additional charge, cooked veg. A little disappointing that they said one thing then didn’t follow through.
Overall good pub food, good service and just a quant place, neat brick building.
Great local musicians and great cocktails! I enjoyed an amazing Sunday afternoon with my husband. Our server Lauren was very friendly and knoweledgable of the menu. She recommended the oyster rockefeller dish which was just what we wanted! I am so happy we found this gem of a pub. If u are looking for a pub that could easily remind you of an episode of Cheers this is the place. I mean it.
Many awesome gluten free options and a dedicated GF deep fryer! Awesome staff, very curious and helpful (even after all my questions lol). Then picked up out take out meal and was pleasantly surprised that they gave me the dine in deal and saved me $15!
Second year in a row where I've had a birthday dinner and absolutely love it! Great staff and atmosphere. Food is AMAZING
Happy hour makes me happy 😁
Wings were delicious and if you like G&T cocktails, you will love the choices here!
Service was outstanding, portions are great and prices were pub-standard. Our celiac friend didn't lack for menu choices either.
Definitely will come again!
In all my time of perusing cocktail lounges and bars, I have finally found the mixologist of my dreams.
Kyle will show you what a drink is supposed to feel like.. There is an immense knowledge of history and chemistry that goes into his passion.
If you are lucky enough to find yourself within a stone's throw of the inner harbour of Victoria, B.C. and are also an appreciator of artful cocktails, Bartholomews is the bar you need to visit. Need.
This is my type of spot, traditional, tonnes of heritage. Well priced decent food for what I've eaten, nice and knowledgeable staff. Like our city, this place has history locked in its walls and stays a very iconic part of our downtown core. .pandemic and all, our spring season is coming, the doors on events and entertainment may be slightly ajar...This is a spot to get a little late afternoon shine and some people watching with a pint in hand and a smile to match. Cheers'
Great food have the nachos or a burger.
Great staff great food love visiting this place highly recommend it.
Im a chef by the way.
Our party of 6 all raved about how good our food was!
My favourite pub in Victoria. I'd like to keep it for myself, but I guess I need to share its goodness. Wonderful place to relax, eat and enjoy a cold pint.
Great service/great bar/great food
Great food, lots are gluten free friendly (fish and chips 😍)! Unreal service and gin selection!
Great hidden sun trap patio. Great food and drinks. Looking forward to renovation being completed
I showed up at 11:40 and they told me they can't serve me because last call is at 12. But they let me sit at a table with my friends regardless, so that was alright.
The food was amazing - cauliflower "wings," tagliatelle Primavera, Quattro formaggi pizza, all delicious. Service excellent, good atmosphere, accommodating staff - 100% satisfied and happy to have visited Batholomew's. If we are in Victoria again, we will definitely stop by.
Great food and drinks! Super friendly staff; our wonderful server Keely was super attentive and gave us great drink recommendations and we'll definitely be back!
Top best Cesars in the city that’s if you are not fussy about seafood.
Good happy hr. Food is decent and the service is always good, also worth mentioning the live music, overall a great bar downtown!
Old English style pub with live music and dancing at night when covid allows
The food was wonderful and the service was great. They are family friendly in half the pub until 9pm. They have a couple standard card/board games for customers to play.
Food is great, service is awesome, but explore their gin wall! Their bartender is amazing and will make you weep with joy.
Great place for a pint and a bite to eat in Downtown Victoria . Great staff and the food was great i had fish tacos and my peeps had eggs benny. They loved there meals. Wife ordered a seafood caesar included and muscle and 2 shrimp with olive garnish i will be getting that drink next time😊. Our server was efficient ant friendly Thanks
Spent an afternoon on the patio in the sun, drinking some great beer. To top it off, the background music was awesome. Will definitely be back.
Top notch English style pub. Not a tonne of TVs, which is a nice change. Clean but retains old world charm.
We ordered the English brekky and the small house salad.
The English breakfast was a good size. Not overly filling but that's what I was aiming for. The sausage was really good. I also just enjoy tomatoes. Weakest part for me was probably the bacon.
The small house salad was still pretty large. Could probably be split by two people as an appetizer. Has a good amount of different parts to it. Not the biggest fan of chickpeas though.
We also came for drinks the two nights we were in town. They had live music going and it had a nice atmosphere
Would come back again.
Great service and nice place. The Caesars were amazing!
Quaint place with good food and service
Really, really nice spot. Very unique in that it’s a pub but clean and gives you an old English/Irish vibe. Wings are fantastic and staff is very friendly. 5-star bar in Victoria.
Great place to have a pint! Good selection of beers and cocktails. The staff are fantastic, especially Keely!
Really good old fashioned drink and great price.
Awesome staff and drinks!
Great food and service in a cozy but large pub. Great patio.
The lads here are legends! They'll make ya anything you want, plus can even make you a tipple you didn't know you wanted. Rum punch with sorrel was solid! Best fish and chips I've ever had too. Support a local pub and head to Bart's. I'll definitely be back!
July 16, 2021: Visited Bart's tonight with my family from out of town and I cannot complain about any part of all of our night. Food, service, and drink were outstanding. I gave it a second chance and it paid off! Highly recommend. 👍🏽
Good food, good drink, good service, good prices
Awesome little patio quite sheltered from the elements. Very nice staff.
Hi! I avoid wheat and dairy and enjoyed excellent pulled pork tacos and my partner ordered the toad in the hole which in this case was a couple of delicious golden Yorkshire pudding with roast beef mashed potato and gravy appetizer size. There was lots of room the tables were well spaced apart the service was attentive the food delicious.
Great staff & food! Friendly service! Highly recommend it!!! 🤙🤙🤙
It was OK. As a resident I won't go again though appear to be some regulars.
Prices are higher than similar establishments nearby.
Would I recommend Bartholomew's to family...No.
To co-workers, out of towners...no, unless you are staying in the hotel then yes
There are better choices within 1-2 block walk.
I like Barts because it's one of the few actual pubs left in Victoria where you can order a proper god-fearing Coors Light the way you're supposed to.
They have all that craft nonsense too plus a great selection of gins and incredibly talented bartenders; meaning your average well to do marketing numpty named "caleb" or "brooke" who wants to order a "reverse toronto" 8 minutes to close will feel right at home.
God bless this house.
Cozy atmosphere on the lower floor of the Hampton Victoria hotel. Good food and a great selection of beer.
Good times at Music Bingo Thurs nights!
Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Ceasar was amazing!
Food was excellent
drinks were delicious
New life brought to an old dive. Old Barts was shamefully fun; new Barts has clean beer lines, a welcoming yet interesting tap list, surprisingly good cocktails, great pub food, and good covid19 safety precautions in place.
Nice.
We were thrilled to discover Bartholomew’s has reopened. New management and menu. Excellent service and good food
Such good food and service!!!! Our waitress was seriously amazing and the food was so good. Happy hour prices are awesome ($5 beers, $4.50ish wines - the happy hour white was a Pinot Grigio and quite good). Happy hour appetisers are $7 and the sliders were so damn good, one of the best I’ve had. For dinner I had the meatloaf and boyfriend had fish and chips, both great. Just good food. Coleslaw wasn’t great but whatever. Live band playing was really good too! Had the NHL and NFL on the TVs. Great atmosphere and everything else. Highly recommend!
Awesome English pub! Cool staff and great food
Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Great selection of drinks and good menu. Unfortunately, salmon was so overcooked it became dry. Not sure if this representative of all the food but it was very disappointing. Nice vibe and would recommend as a casual dining or drinking option.
